Who do we need to bring in to change our culture?

Watched Sunday night with Matty Johns.
Glen Lazarus was on the couch, first time I’ve heard him interviewed. I’m not sure whether he is involved with the Raiders in any capacity as he mentioned he moved back to Canberra after he retired but even if just for a prep talk I’d bring him in to talk to the team.
There’d be a line though, after what he mentioned re Origin and the Blues id say they’d be trying to arrange a session with him as well.

I know that a lot on here will name anyone who they think could change our culture, that is admirable considering the crap that has been dished up to us for years, however in my opinion before you throw someone under the bus for having a go at changing the stench that has built up for years at our club we should look the problem fair and square in the face and address that before we get someone involved that could ruin their own reputation by trying to improve our clubs culture and brand..
What do I mean by that you ask??...the one common denominator through this whole saga is the ""boys club "" and hanging on to memories of past glory by players and a coach who did a great job 18 years ago...I will repeat myself again to get it through peoples minds that this is an ever changing sport that tries to deliver a product of high quality for the members and guests of clubs they support and pay fees to attain that high quality...
Sheens hasnt coached in the NRL for 10 years,Benji thought the Auckland Blues would make him a household name for years..fail..Farah thought he was the WTs and could get coaches sacked on his say,he left to go to Souths because his brother was in the physio dept and had a foot in the door...
Both were great for us at the time but had their faults....
We need a strong leader in the admin which we dont have, the chair thinks he is the saviour of the WTs...not...the board have constant in housing fighting with whoever they think deserves the wrath....
What we do need is a complete overhaul of board, admin, football dept and coaching to supplement a 2024 onwards of a competative well coached team and a board that is progressive with the new rules and be wary of recruited players looking for the last paycheck with little input..these are only my opinions based solely on experience at group football level, the game I played was for the entertainment of our local township rivalry and family Sunday afternoon outings...WE also had to play for our match payments and pride, win lose or draw it was a social outing that kept communities together..
The NRL is a multi million dollar business, players on huge amounts of money, cap pressure to ensure the fairness of the game(supposedly),coaches and staff on salaries to make sure all players are fit and ready for the next game in the big arena.etc...
WTs have to start getting professional in a surrounding that demands professionalism from Admin right down to the individual players contracted to play a professional sport...
New game, rules and officialdom in the new Millenium for rugby league need new fresh faces that are up to speed with the ever changing climate of the game...as the old wise man said to me many years ago ""a change is as good as a holiday""and we all need a holiday at sometime...

I agree TT.
The question is not who do we need to bring in, but what do we introduce. And sadly the more one thinks about it the more likely the answer is organisational development.

You build culture from the ground up. Put the right people in the pathways & reap the rewards down the road.

Sheens is, in all honesty, the guy to do that.
Sheens, needs people to call him on his plans.

I say it before I will say it again. Sheens is the Citroen or Layland P76 of coaches. Some things he does really really well, others like defense he sucks at. I would like to see Sheens work with Shane Flannagan or similar where the good ideas could rise and the crap ones tossed.

So far Sheens has delivered more grief then gain.

What are you talking about? Pascoe always goes on about this kind of thing. It's the reason that he's sucked so many people in to his web of talk.
He talks alot about having everything in place now to be successful and we just need results on the field.
Never heard him say anything about actually striving to win now.
Look at the current schtick about planning to be competitive in 2025.

Recently someone made mention of a move years ago to rename us as the Sydney Tigers.
It got me thinking about a potential, logical, rebrand across the NRL that may be a better, all inclusive model for the future.
Teams would be;
Sydney Roosters
Sydney Rabbitohs
Sydney Dragons
Sydney Sharks
Sydney Panthers
Sydney Eels
Sydney Tigers
Sydney Bulldogs
Sydney Sea Eagles
Canberra Raiders
Melbourne Storm
Newcastle Knights
Gold Coast Titans
Brisbane Broncos
Brisbane Dolphins
North Queensland Cowboys
New Zealand Warriors
Looks neat and clean to me moving forward and gets rid of all this old suburban, tribal factional rubbish.

I dont know why Sheens is copping the criticism? Looks to me he's doing his job?
Running interference and advising Benji.

I would have thought not achieving his goals, like improving the team by playing better football and winning more games.
I’m assuming you jest about the last sentence ?
I don’t know how much coaching Sheens is doing, beyond coaching Benji? I look in the box on game day and see Benji calling the shots. I see video of training sessions and it’s Benji running with the team. Interestingly, there has been no replacement to Sheens old job he had last year, I think Pascoe called him ‘head of football’?

Happened once with Balmain. Lasted a season.

We're the Wests Tigers, not Sydney Tigers.

Yep, the boss of football operations is currently…?
As CEO, Pascoe has direct reports from his senior leadership team on the business and development side of things, this would include the CFO, the Head of Corporate Partnerships, the Media and Communications Manager, the Consumer Business Manager, the Head of Fan Engagement, the Community Manager, the Game Development Manager, the Pathways Manager and of course…the Director of Football.

The Director of Football is an extremely important position which outlines the strategies of the coaches from NRL, NSW Cup, Flegg, NRLW as well as leads the whole footy operations from assistant coaches and football managers, to club doctor and physio staff through to analysts and nutritionists…and everyone in between. Tim Sheens is still listed as this person. As he is supposedly doing this job, and head coach, and training Benji, it is very evident he is being spread to thin.
WTF is going on?

Can't say it's certainly happening but based on appearances only, it looks as though Benji is already taken on most of the coaching and Sheens is running cover for him with media appearances. If this is the case and Benji is just using Sheens as a sounding board he probably has more time to be a Director of Football than we think.

What's Fulton's position actually meant to be?

For too many years our problem has been that we have the culture of a team, but not a club.

We've been focussed on selling pet memberships, playing at more stadiums than the Harlem Globetrotters to make a few bucks and getting more Facebook fans.

It's time for the board to draw a line in the sand and end this madness. We need a bold new vision and a new CEO to make it happen.

We need to pull up stumps on the inner city, move out to Liverpool or Campbelltown, develop a big, attractive pathways program for the hundreds of thousands of young kids play in the southwest and emulate the Penrith approach.

We need to be a club that's proud of our history and becomes a place that parents see an opportunity for their kids to make a career.

We're completely out of step with the way the modern game has evolved.

As much as many of us (and indeed our board) have emotional links to our Wests / Balmain inner west roots, our tree is rotting badly. Unless we do something dramatically different, we'll be having this same conversation in 2033.
if we head out west to campbletown or Liverpool we are done as a club. It didn't work for the Magpies and it will not work now.
Keep a junior academy at campbletown get the juniors in but you don't lose the inner west you give that up to the dogs etc.
As for campbletown area no club including souths and dogs will move stumps out there solely so no danger of that happening
How about the club starts with the reserve grade team under the wests tigers banner as a starting point
