As I said in an earlier post, the same parade of clowns are happy to line up to point out that no player with half-decent options is ever going to sign for a farce like the Tigers, yet when they try something different that's a bad move too. I really, really try not to be paranoid but at least some of them *must* have some sort of agenda. Or maybe it's just a boys' club of lazy old hacks leeching off the game they pretend to love.

Just on the whole media thing, my main issue is that as rugby league fans, we are naturally very likely going to take an interest in either TV shows or, as is in my case, the league articles on fox sports' website.

After getting the email from Wests announcing the signing, I checked fox sports for an article; because naturally I wanted to read a bit about them (haven't seen either play, but it's been on here for ages) and finally some good news for our besieged Tigers.

But nope.

My point is, being a tigers supporter is now not only starving us of the joy of sharing in success, but I'm at the point where I don't even want to hear or read any of what these incredibly subjective, so called "journalists" have to say about them.

Rugby league the sport is a big interest of mine and associated media used to be something I enjoyed and found interesting.

What ungodly mistakes did I ever make to have arrived at a point in time where the only thing to do with the Tigers I watch is the games? Is this not punishment enough?! 😭

Matamua is being developed slowly - he was debuted by Noddy for a taste of firsts, but Sheens is taking a different approach. We've already seen Sheens bring Blore back slowly, including spells in reserves, and it really does seem to be paying dividends for the player, even if the team is struggling. Also, Tigers depth in forwards is superior to backs.

If you’re talking about the cost of the transaction then you need to include the Fulton cost, both financially and strategically.
I realise our board is getting heaps of praise and I haven’t seen this much excitement on here since we signed Moses Suli on big bucks, but we really can’t tell if it’s been a master stroke until it plays out over the next couple of seasons?
The person who needs all the praise imho, is Fulton’s manager, he’s the guy who hit our board’s patellar and not only got Fulton a job on big bucks, but also a 25% pay rise for 2 Fainus.
What happens next will determine how good this deal is.
But in the meantime the agent is happy to have the WT board take all the credit.
 
No dramas at all with the cost. Apart from the already mentioned Suaalii, Tino was bought by the Titans for more than 600k a year as a teenager ( 3 year deal at the time, although he had played 1st grade) and the Bulldogs own Oloapu who's contract may not be as high but had a 500k transfer fee paid for him. The test is whether they can kick on and make it a good purchase.
Of course with the way contracts are these days, is it really a four year commitment at that price?
 
The issue here isn't about how much we paid or who gets the credit for recruiting them.

The issue now is how we develop them - along with TDS, Feledy, Stef and Tupou. If we invest in their development we have the potential to not only move up the table but to create a system that enables continuous improvement.

WT will remain a basket case if we fail to invest in the development of these young palyers - if we rush it we will live to regret the impatience. I think that Sheens gets this and I trust that Benji has learnt from Uncle Wayne and is patient.

They might have agreed to release him from 2024 but working on a swap deal so waiting on that to happen.
Or
Sam was only contracted to this year anyway, so no release required and for Lati is outside the top 30 so clubs don't normally media that but could be wrong.
 
FWIW was at a Storm world cup activity last night and speaking with a recruiting mgr who was adamant the Fainu’s had higher offers than what they agreed to from multiple clubs. He said it even impacted one of his players (didn’t say the player but did say struggling sydney club) decisions for a club because of delays.

He also said they Fainu’s aren’t getting 500k a season “Last season sure but not the 1st few they are ALOT less”. He finished by saying Fulton does have player manager power & is convincing “good get” but we are an experienced coach short for some players to want to jump finishing with “Benji needs some help”. Benji is working around the clock apparently on recruitment. View is he can’t be head coach (people manager) and a tactician setting up weekly game plans and itemized player plans.

He mentioned the Storm are looking at a 2 Tigers players atm (didn’t say anymore) Staines they looked at but he wanted to stay in Sydney out west.

Thanks for the mail mate.

This is the stuff the clowns in media need to know as their made-up lies don't just affect us but other players at the club thinking these guys walk in on big money and have not proved anything yet.

Also the fact they turned down bigger offers would be massive boost for the club.

I am really sick of the agenda the media have and only way to shut them up is to win so fingers crossed it starts tonight

I disagree. There are two much more important factors in how this all turns out. No 1 these kids ability and no 2 how hard they work.

It's more about picking the right horse.

I think you missed the point Earl. We don't have the pulling power to get established playmakers. So we have to take some risk and invest in the development of talent.

Ability and hard work are just two factors. There are plenty of talented footballers who never made the NRL and plenty of hard-working ones that didn't either. What could they have been if a club had invested in their development?

We have a promising cohort, we now need to invest our effort into creating a WT system where the development cohort continues to be fed from the inner west and Campbelltown. This can then provide FG ready players to replace players injured, moved on or recruited to other teams.

A failure to invest in the development of this type of system is an investment in the WT spoon collection.

Hope he continues down that path.
I’m a bit concerned that Manly had the opportunity to play him at 6 this year and played everyone else with the final outcome being recruiting and paying $250k more for our halfback instead. Alongside an experienced DCE he would have done just fine. Maybe they dug themselves a hole with the Shuster promises and had to appoint a 6 from outside their system just to keep everyone on side. Not sure.
Either way I betting Benji to be real good for him.
Hopefully he is a well grounded kid coz on the money we signed him for we’d have no choice but to start him next year.
