Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

It’s obvious we’re going to have a different opinion on this. I thought this team was good enough to potentially challenge for the top 8 on the back of a pre season of promise we were sold by the coaching staff & club. Yes, our backs are poor but some of the coaching decisions this season have been bizarre to say the least & there’s been more then a few games that I thought we would’ve won this season if not for poor coaching selections/tactics.

I think we should’ve been coached as a side to play to our strength this season which was our forward pack, instead we were sold a dream of 200 passes a day at training & blitzing the opposition with an attacking brand of footy. The games we simplified all of this & rolled through the middle were the games we won/competed most in.
Forwards set the platform, rugby league 101, and they've been doing that all year. At least as well as any other team. When it comes to backline play I'm convinced we have the talent, we simply don't have the structure/shape/coaching. We don't have the halves, granted, but there's never been a structured play to get a 3 on 2 or even a 2 on 1. it's mechanical, just practice it at training like 14 of the 17 clubs do. Us, the dragons and dogs just can't seem to construct anything. It's coaching.

Club talking about moving AD on, how in the hell do they move him on when he will not be able to play for half a season and is coming back from his third knee job.

Okay they probably will not extend his contract, but you can only move a player on who is in demand and I would imagine he would be in as much demand as a pork pie in Israel
Pay him out early if we have free cap space! No brained really.

And I reckon our 5/8 utility / #14 recruit should come down to:

1 - Connor Tracey (some light reading here)

2 - Te Maire Martin (Benji quoted in 2016: "I watched him come through the Tigers system in the under-20s and from the time he came in he was just phenomenal. He's got great footwork, a great ability to see the game and you can see by his body shape that he's got a lot of growing to do. As a half, seeing a young half come in and have that impact on a first-grade game first-up is pretty impressive."

3 - Blake Taafe

4 - Jayden Sullivan (worried about his chronic hamstring injuries)
For me 4, 2,3, 1 in that order.

If the report is accurate that he's on 500k (WTF!) then no way. Also not sure how many 5/8's we need for next season, currently we will have Fainu, Doueihi and possibly even Galvin in our top 30 as 5/8. Given we'd have Api and TDS in our top 30 too, and possibly still one of Rua/Simpkin we don't need a 5/8-hooker utility. We need either a an organising halfback, or a fullback-5/8 utility.
Say we have Sezer as 7 next year and he gets injured in round one, who would replace him? We need another organising halfback in our top 30 (another reason why i wouldn't have Galvin in our top 30 under any circumstances, a development contract instead)
Agree if he had speed with his goal kicking would be worth 5 x more and be a regular 1st grader.

IF we sign Sullivan & Sezer that would be 29 Top 30 spots taken based on who we already have on the books.

Really need to release at least 2 maybe 3 players: Simpkin, Nofoaluma, Reilly & possibly Naden or Kepaoa.

Sign Tracey. Resign/Upgrade Staines & James.

Then we look fair.

1. Bula
2. Tupou
3. To'a/Feledy
4. Tracey
5. Staines
6. L. Fainu/Sullivan/Douiehi (when fit)
7. Sezer
8. Utoiukamanu
9. Korosaui
10. Klemmer
11. Papali'i
12. Bateman
13. Blore
14. Da Silva/Sullivan
15. James
16. Pole
17. Twal
18. Kepaoa/Naden
19. S. Fainu

Plus obviously the other 10 or so with Top 30 deals.

Depth in halves, back & forwards! Wow!
My 6 would be Fainu and 7 Sullivan rest back ups

Yeah but look deeper. Our forwards to 1 too many ball shifts for my liking. I’ve heard this many times, we have the forward pack to set the platform what platform?
What are our forwards actually achieving?
Are we getting quick play the balls and a fast ruck?
Are we seeing them belt the opposition and making it a tough game?
Are we seeing them bust tackles and making line breaks?
What they are getting is meters in possession but there is a lack of variety so would we really have an effective game plan on the back of our forward pack alone?

All they have to do is get metres in possession, which they do. Field position isn't our problem, it's what the backs don't do when in position.

I am not sure where you got 29 from. This is my current top 30 for next year, let me know if I have missed anybody. Think we have 5 spots to fill (3 if we got Sezer & Sullivan). Even though TDS will probably be top 30 next year I only have what is confirmed written down. I only think we upgrade TDS if we move on Rua / Jake anyway.

You’re obviously real up on the news real well - Manly put out a statement of who managers how many of their players…

Moses currently manages 5/39 players counted and is 4th on the list behind Tarak and the Orrs amongst others

Apologies for adding reality to your lovely little fairytale here…
Ha, I think I have fallen for some fake news.
The Daily telegraph (man they are Horrible for accuracy, seriously dumb). said that 19/30 of their players were managed by Issac Moses.

clearly it is only 5.

Funny too how Manly have been bagged over clearing up the situation which was made by the Fake daily telegraph.

How can news outlets get away with outright lies?

Ok for a low table club but all the top teams have forwards that aren’t just meter eaters. They have skills and variety and they are very much a factor of their sides ability to attack.
