Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Does anyone else just have the slightest doubt that if Fainu was close to being ready for first grade ..then why did Manly move him on for our legend Luke Brooks?
They originally went to Manly on the advice of their agent because he thought Des Hasler could get the best out of them. They accepted Manly's lower offer, only to see Des kicked out.
Now that their agency recommendation points them to us he has to confidently sell our soon to be coach. Sounds like that hasnt been easy for him?
If I was an agent, I would want my clients to reach their full potential so they command a big contract.
If Fainu is as good as Brooks, then we will see him in NRL during 24.

manly had to agree to let them go though… that’s kind of my point I am trying to make … not what the players / agent thought

The problem is way too many on here think Brooks is the only problem with the team. He has been really good this season and I have no faith in anyone being able to remember every game over the last 10 years he has played. It's just feelings and emotions rather than rational opinions.

I think Brooks is clearly an average to above average half and he is NRL ready. Fainu is still a risk.

Personally if it's a choice between Brooks and Fainu for our club I'm all in on Fainu.

I don’t think that … I think there are many things wrong with this team

If you don't think that then it makes sense right. Brooks is clearly an average NRL at worst. I think he has proven himself above average at least this season.

Fainu is completely unproven.

They've probably gotten Brooks for not much more than Fainu. It's just a risk play in that Brooks is lower risk to perform up to standard over the next couple of seasons. Manly aren't a rebuilding team like us. They could do really well over the next couple of seasons if they get some luck with injury and players hit form.

Brooks has an outside chance of finishing his career as part of the 300 club. Yet the peanut gallery will still insist he isn’t first grade standard.
Yeah because he totally didnt deserve to be put to reserve grade on several occasions throughout his time at the mighty WT, he totally would of racked that many games continuously in first grade with his standard of output if he had played at half a more competitive side, wake up clown.

No player, especially a half back plays over 200 games if they are not up to it. They get found out very early on.

It's because even if he's first grade ready he probably won't be consistently good for another 2-3 years like dylan Brown or Dearden and manly under Seibold seem to have gone all in on winning a premiership before dce retires.

They are essentially going for short term gain in the next 3 years at the cost of having a downturn afterwards

I agree, your point is clear. I apologise for not expanding, but allowing you to form your own conclusion. Let me see if I can make this clearer? Fainus had higher offers from several clubs but by choosing to go to Manly where they could be coached by Des, they paid a premium.
It cost them money. Manly devalued that payment by sacking Des. Therefore it’s understandable and possible that those players were demotivated and considering options. Manly couldn’t see a positive outcome by beating a dead horse, so they themselves looked for an alternative outcome.
Just quietly they appear to be high maintenance and if you’re comparing to Brooks, I know who I would prefer.

No doubting the talent of Jayden Sullivan and Latu Fainu.
The issue is getting the right balance of players around them to make their playmaking simple.

I think that's a reasonable point. A good link man at 13 would really help them, but all our middles are genuine front rowers. It's hard to leave anyone out of the team in regards to Twal, Klemmer, Pole and stef. Doesn't leave much room for a dominant ball playing lock.

I think one of the juniors will come through and we'll lose one of our middle forwards. It might be Matamua or Kit Laulilii.

It might help the balance of our team.
