Update on Rabbitohs coaching structure​

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have agreed with Sam Burgess today that he will be released from his assistant coaching duties for the remainder of the season to allow him to concentrate on his forthcoming role with the Warrington Wolves and the impending birth of his child.

"The South Sydney Rabbitohs thank Sam for his valuable contribution to the Club as assistant coach and join with all Rabbitohs Members and supporters in wishing him every success at Warrington"

Sam Burgess said: "I've made the decision to step away from South Sydney, given the circumstances.

"My immediate focus is the upcoming birth of our baby and preparing for my new role at Warrington."

The Rabbitohs have a bye this weekend and are readying themselves for their important final regular season match against the Sydney Roosters on Friday 1 September at Accor Stadium, under the leadership of Head Coach Jason Demetriou and assistant coaches Ben Hornby and John Morris.

it was looking dire there for a little while, but the club has done very well to shore up its depth in the halves. Sezer, Sullivan, L. Fainu and Galvin all ready to go for preseason with Doueihi due back at some point. excellent work WT.

Sezer is a smart signing for ‘24. an experienced head who will assist Api in leading the side around and carrying out Marshall’s game plans. can throw a cutout both sides, still has an elite short kicking game and his mentoring skills will go a long way. welcome Aidan!

Unfortunately he employs the football department staff (Sheens/McDonald) and then goes in another direction (Benji/Fulton). These are the guys that are supposed to be providing direction, but the direction keeps changing.

I would say the Burgess / Demetriou relationship is untenable in relation to player accountability, and the fact He’s already leaving , and Morris will be kept on to finish the season .
I highly doubt he’s still there in 2 weeks when they loose their mind after not making the 8.
 
The Bulldogs and St George Illawarra must be a protected species from journalists, it seems any chance they get, they will bring the performance of the Tigers into a story. You have a Team in particularly the Bulldogs that have spent big money on players from a winning culture and sit 3rd last on the ladder, yet you do not hear their coaches, players being questioned or the club being disrespected, is that due to Gould ? Its bad enough that the Team are performing poorly, and when you have so much passion for your club and want to see them do well, but your always hoping another Team will be targeted by the Journos to take the heat off the Tigers, I would bet other people feel that way. For mine we need a ball playing forward like Matamua, a strike centre and a halves combination that really Gels, I can see Seizer being the game controller and Sullivan being the runner, he is deadly near the line.

I definitely don't think Klemmer is the tough forward leader we needed. I think it's looking like turning out a dud contract. If we lose Seyfarth or Twal then I think it's a bad contract.

When it comes to juniors we need to pick the right ones more consistently. We haven't had much success with our developments players. Bula and Pole are great pickups but we appear to be carrying a bunch of younger players who won't make first grade within the next couple of seasons. I accept we will never get this right all the time but I think the 2024 squad just looks unbalanced.

I don't think Klemmer is anywhere near a dud contract. Nor do I think he is a tough forward leader. I think he is a pretty good forward performing his role and being paid accordingly.
He is exceptional in defence. Not a big hitter or anything he just doesnt ever miss. He is also probably the only middle we have that occasionally provides inside pressure when the opposition shift the ball. The others just stand and watch leaving to much work for our outside backs.
He is also a very good 'A' runner. May not actually bend the line or have an overly quick play the ball to be elite but sucks in enough defenders to make life easier for a 'B' runner.
All the talk of the likes of Twal progressing their hit up work I believe should largely be attributed to having a decent A runner making their job easier moreso than actual improvement from them (Of which there has been a little also).
If he is using his experience in setting standards and guiding younger players on the finer points of the game (which I have no idea if he is) then all the better.

There was talk earlier in the year we were under the cap and had flexibility to move some funds forward to next year etc. I'd be looking at using those funds to pay out the contracts of a couple of blokes to secure "mutal release" and create space for next season then offer them the option of train and trial/Cup contracts for next season. Effectively those blokes will get next season's wage upfront and have the added bonus of a guaranteed cup salary next year as well. Rua, Reilly, Mansfield and the Fainu already here would be where I would start

I think Gould sued the DT a while back or buzz or something . Maybe it’s a case of once bitten twice shy

I’m over the constant negative media articles as well. I really do think it affects our ability to recruit/retain.
