Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

His stats read well, but his impact is very minimal.
Gone are the days of having a second rower who is an out an out worker, tackle busting and impact is now needed.
Maybe second row is no longer his position, but he didn’t seem to handle playing 13 too well.
Maybe him playing 13 for 40-50mins per game instead of 80 might help maximise his ability.
Having a proper pre season might help.

Bevan French is not the type of player the Tigers need. He's a slightly above average guy that is quick- pretty much the perfect mix to succeed in the SL.

Our halves will be the main reason for improvement in our backs.

But our outside backs need to be safe under kicks, at least reasonable in defence, able to compete physically & not give up dumb penalties/turnovers. Our wingers need to be good at churning out metres from dummy half/kick return opportunities.

Addition by subtraction- remove the arm wavers, shirt grabbers, catch droppers & mentally challenged.

For mine Doueihi & Tupou survive. Nofoaluma has to based on salary. Feledy is coming through. Reilly...not upset if he stays. The others can go. I know some love Staines, but he's simply not worth $500k this year or any year to follow. Yet to see his 'blinding speed' do anything of note. To'a is good for a dumb penalty & excessive arm waving every time he's on the field. Naden cannot be trusted to perform consistently. Kepaoa...sigh.

Young Lualili'i is in the mix. Bring in Hiroti for a third of Staines' contract & get as much from him as you do Staines. Hymel Hunt & Momorovski stiffen up the defence & match up physically. Are they exciting? Hell no. But they stop our backs being a liability. If the club wants to land a good up & coming player, you chase Alamoti. We need backs that don't lose you games.
Agree on most of you comments except Staines. We saw in that long distance try with Nofoaluma to Brooks and then to Staines to finish what genuine pace provides. Staines needs to be kept as a priority. In addition, Staines comes from a highly professional club which has won x number of premierships. It seems to me we can do with all the professionalism we can buy at this time.

I truly think once we get our halves on the field consistently, he won't feel the need to create things as much and just run good lines. He is a very good player with great work ethic which younger players will learn off.

Give him a full preseason with halves we will be a lot better all round.

He will be running off his old mate Sez next year and from what I hear was instrumental in getting him here… 2024 will be a whole new ball game tigers 🐅

French is not NRL standard and no better than what we already have.

Yeah, but for $500k +, Hiroti etc are not THAT much slower. The player himself is fine. Nothing special, not a blight on the game. But, his value is nowhere near what was paid. He's a modest 1st grade player. He does not give a team great metres out of dummy half on those early tackles. His value is in that he CAN run, he's ok catching & he's a back-up fullback.

He's not better than Nick Meaney though. Keao Weekes from Manly is probably a good comparison, and cheaper.
