Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Storm are so impressive with recruitment .unlike Chooks who use Uncle Nick to lure already existing stars the Storm year after year come of with so many hidden gems .They scout well ,and last night they rested 13 of their Nrl side and still impressed . Their B grade team would beat our first grade side .
However surely they must get some cap pressure so why can't we do some deals just covering their 1-7 they have
Meaney ,Papenhausen, Coates, Seve , Reimis Smith , Warbrick , Olam , Anderson ,Tonumaipea ,J Nikorima ,Wishart ,Munster ,Hughes plus the exciting Faalogo
A couple of this lot would really help our Roster

The attitude Bellamy instills in his players is what has made them the most consistently succesful side in the last 2 decades. He certainly had the benefit of having a CEO who cheated the cap but Bellamy is unmatched in the modern game in getting the best out of his squad. When some of his stars have gone elsewhere some have withered in other clubs and while i certainly agree it is worth trying to get a few of them here there are no guarantees they would be as good here, especially when you take our administration/leadership into consideration

Olam clearly a target, and almost certainly available given what Stom have got coming thru..
Big fan of Olam and wild take him in a heartbeat on last yrs form, but worst centre on field against baby Broncos..moved like a back rower and lacked condition
Past his best by date
Same may apply to JAC who has also lost speed
No more top $ for busted old players looking for a pension
Olam hasn't been the same player since he was smashed in a tackle 6-8 weeks ago.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think the fox would be a great signing if we either get rid of Nofa or Dogs chip in a little. He provides a lot of value and experience for that winger position as a current SOS and Australian representative. He's still only 28 years old and has another 3-4 good years left in him I reckon. He provides some much needed pace in our backline and the winger position now is arguably our weakest within the squad given our improvement in the halves department.

Culture in football is so important and creating a good environment around the club goes a long way towards a teams potential success, when you mix a club who promotes good club values and combine that with a good culture then it'll turn into something special overtime etc Penrith and Melbourne. Benji is very aware of this and apparently is doing a very good job at creating a positive club culture and trying to promote our club to be a family club hence why they wanted Morris so badly who's a former Wests Tigers player who would echo that message. People criticise us a lot given we've been losing games but majority of the season you can tell there's intent and effort in our performance and we're giving it a crack regardless of our injury toll where in previous years it looks like we'd just give up.The players are all together and want to turn this club around, I'm not naive to think we're doing well I understand we're struggling but at the same time I'm enjoying how the club is handling themselves internally from a culture/system perspective led by Benji it feels different.

A player like JAC just further adds to it, he's a great culture guy and mentor for the juniors coming through and was pivotal to Melbourne's success on and off the field. He's very liked across the league so recruitment may become slightly easier and having a figure like himself around the club will help bring a little of togetherness around the joint and promote the family values Benji is trying to implement.

I don't think there's one single player at the Bulldogs right now that is looking any good besides Averilo who's leaving, so looking solely at his latest form might not be the way to judge what he can provide for a team. It was only less than 12 months ago he was scoring 4 tries for the Kangaroos and was regarded as the best winger in the comp. Personally, I think Ciraldo is trying too hard to make an impact and is pushing his team too hard to a point where it may not be benefiting but more so fatiguing them. For a club who are apparently training the boys too hard they're arguably the most unfit team in the comp. Just my view.

You are right but given you and I and almost everyone on the planet knows its our leadership / administration which is the overriding problem and we the fans can do nothing about it .Frustration and despair are already leading to the fan base withering .
Where Bellamy and his administrators have the "Midas " touch .Lee and Pascoe have the opposite touch . The way they handled the Fulton thing is just one example .
We desperately need a professional CEO . As things stand we are probably bottom 4 next year and possibly the year after . The only action Teflon Justin and the board will take is once a year or two change the coach .

Ado Carr is on top end money for a winger and has been poor this year. His yardage carries are terrible and he has lost significant speed (still pretty quick). He has always had poor moments defensively, but having incredible speed has helped him adjust in situations previously. Now with less speed and in a poorer team then Melbourne, he is crap defensively. I would much rather a younger Staines on 200k less a year. We can't have Staines and Ado Carr, we will be forever stuck in our own half with them 2 at the back. Staines is on the up. He will never reach the peak Ado Carr did of course, but that peak is long gone for Josh.
I agree on taking Staines...

But JAC, the best thing is he has enculturated the Melbourne work ethic and culture.
IMHO he would be awesome in our backline because he would fix Tupou...

Yet he is a speedster who is loosing a little speed. Kinda like Nofa (who used to be fast, but that was so long ago I am the only one rembering it).

Gould would be nuts to punt him. Gould is nuts. I would take him just because he would help upgrade the culture here and I reckon he would work well with Benji. We need a leader in the backline, we really do. ...

It won't happen and we won't have stupid cap space to make it happen. Still a 100% class player that I would love to have back.

The so called Tiger supporter that signed with the dogs.

That’s not true at all . We have taken them to the wire for the last few years with thier A team. This implication that we are coming last means we are the worst team is not living in reality .
Our team is ultra competitive to the frustration of many , we can’t seem to close out wins . If it’s not us screwing ourselves , it’s blatant incompetent ref decisions , luck , or skullduggery from the opposition .
We have the yips in regards to winning . But if we can find a way to get over the top of the tips there’s a very very competitive football team at the club .
It’s soo close to turning , honestly I believe 1-2 players with class could be all the difference .
Hopefully that’s Fainu and Sullivan , or even Galvin . We could have a Fainu / Galvin halves pairing as soon as 2025 , even with Sullivan in the squad .
Or it could be Galvin Sullivan , who knows .

One man won't change it here either.
Understood, I agree with your on that point hence why I said one man doesn't dictate a whole organisations culture - but it can certainly help.

I want him based on his football ability as I think he's still a quality player and just isn't shining in a team with no light really it wasn't long ago he was killing it in both SOS and Austrlia. However, when you take into account what his presence could do around the team from a culture/mentor perspective as well then it just makes him more valuable to a team like us who's showing signs of improving our culture.
