Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Looks like a monster

James Schiller is a big, fast, athletic body type that we need in our outside backs.
Likewise the rest of the Canberra NSW Cup backline in Xavier Savage, Harley Smith-Shields and Brad Morkos.
I think all are currently contacted to Canberra for another year at least, but would highly likely be looking for better NRL opportunity.
Canberra’s KOE back line is better than our first grade backline WTF

I’ve seen a few highlights of him previously.
He looks highly aggressive, something we badly lack more often than not.
He’s the type of player we should be taking a gamble on and signing.

That’s how I see it also and exactly why we should be looking to pinch one or two of them.
I believe the whole 4 of them are NRL quality, I know the Eels are trying to get Harley Smith-Shields.
Schiller has previously played some highly impressive NRL games as has Savage.
If we had both of them as our starting NRL wingers it would be a massive upgrade on what we currently have.

Gotta agree with you…

I can’t comprehend any circumstances where this Tigers team in 2024 could show similar improvement to the Knights this season…

I think the Tigers ceiling would be to win 8 or 9 games next season …
13 wins is the benchmark to be close to the top 8. With new halves I am confident we can achieve that goal. We had a crap year in the halves and couldn't beat the easy beats. Yet we smashed the Cows and beat the minor Premiers with their best team on the paddock.

Funny pretty sure plenty had Newcastle as cellar dwellers this season and look at them now. Same coach and most of the same roster, an ordinary beginning to the season and beating close to full strength StGeorge with half their side out.to make 9 in a row.
The biggest surprise packet of the season and just backs how winning is contagious just as much as losing is.
We don't have a player anywhere near Pongas ability

You didn't know.... I read it's all Hastings?
- Has nothing to do with the half a dozen Origin Players in their top 17
(Apparently)

I will say, Gamble has been enormous for them....
I watch most their games and he's in everything.
I'm pretty sure u writ Newcastle off at the start of the year

Schiller has family history at the Raiders as he is related to the Mullins' family.

Yes not comparing any of our players to Pongha just making an observation how the whole team has found form - under arguably the most maligned coach not to be sacked -including Pongha.
Best, Crosslands,Young, Clune ,Gamble Marzew all playing their best footy and at the beginning of the year it wouldn't have been considered a backline that would be an attacking weapon - let alone being able to step up when key players are injured. I'd be very surprised if anyone predicted they would finish 5th ahead of more fancied teams.
Plenty were tearing strips off us when we were beat narrowly in both games as if we should have beaten them, now the position people are taking is they have a much stronger squad than ours.

Manly trying to off load players so they can keep who they want.

FREE TO GO

Ben Condon, Kaeo Weekes, Zac Fulton, Kelma Tuilagi, Karl Lawton
Every name mentioned strengthens our squad. I could put an argument forward for each player.

Lawton could be the ideal #14. Plays backrow & hooker. Tuilagi is talented- regardless of any bad feeling toward him leaving. Condon is promising as well. Weekes has the speed we lack. Fulton is the type of effort player this club needs too.

Any or all of these guys could help the club. Smith-Shields & Savage would be a nice combination on one side for us.

I hope we get Weekes. He seems a likely type for us.

I think we all have a suspicion that at the Storm Tuilagi and Schuster would be standouts. Interesting both are appear to be unwanted.

Weekes is a big yes for me. Pass on Lawton, Tuilagi and Condon. Fulton will inevitably be linked to us with Scott as recruitment manager. However, I don't think we have a top 30 spot for him with Mansfield and Tumeth already "project players" in the 2nd row (unless of course, 1 or both are moved on).

Think we should go after sailor from the broncos and move bula to centre also go hard for Bevan French as his centre partner, get a mongrel forward or two and I think we can go close to the top 8 , but knowing our lot we would think that’s not a good idea
