Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You can tell a player they're fourth or fifth in line for a place and while they're welcome to stay and fight to move up the pecking order (or hope for injuries) if they want to ask their agent to see if anyone has a better outlook for them the club won't stand in their way. You can also say the club is prepared to cover some of their salary to make that move more likely. It's basically saying "if you stay here you're starting in reggies" without the dramatics. Of course the player can say "f- you, I'm staying till my contract runs out like it or not" but it's not really in anyone's interest to do that - you'd have to assume the vast majority of players would rather be in first grade somewhere.

The problem with Nofoaluma is that I genuinely wonder if there's a club in the NRL that views him as a viable first grade winger at this stage. If he was a free agent I'm sure he'd pick up a train and trial, but that's not going to help us offload him as it would basically mean paying all his salary in return for nothing more than freeing up a roster spot. TBH it wouldn't totally surprise me if that's what ends up happening; if we're lucky someone might offer him $200k. It really was a quite astonishingly bad deal we gave him (though it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's surpassed in time by the one we gave Bateman).
Yep, that is all correct and essentially what I was getting at. We can tell Nofoaluma he is welcome to look elsewhere and we could tell him we think Tupou and whoever else are currently viewed ahead of him.
But we can't tell him we're trading you to the dogs in return for Addo-Carr (just an example). We could tell him all the above and say BTW the dogs are interested in your services however that is as far as we can go.

I'm not sure the club has any grounds for shedding Doueihis contract from the top 30?

The club might be able to get permission from the NRL to use an extra player in his spot, but they would not be given additional cap space for said replacement.
The pugs did it this season, dropped a top 30 guy out to bring some other hopeless player in to know end!

yeah, it was Biondi-Odo. Im not sure of the details around it and hard to find any definitive answer. But, I believe he was released from his contract i.e. wasn't being paid the remainder of his 2023 contract after being released. He would have obviously had to agree to this (and probably had his new contract starting 2024 fattened a little by doing so). I dont see Doueihi agreeing to a release from his contract, nor do i see the club giving him a new upgraded deal as an incentive to do so.

Does anyone else think we have to many middle’s compared to edge forwards.
Middle
Utoikamanu
Klemmer
Pole
Blore
Twal
Seyfarth

Edge
Papali’i - wanted to be a middle forward at Parramatta and imo his game suits a middle better.
Bateman (doesn’t fit today’s style of an edge forward.)
Hopefully Our young recruit from Manly can be a modern day edge forward.

Middle’s playing edge this year at times:
Pole
Pole
Blore
Twal
Seyfarth
Didn’t help them or the team.

Carrying Bateman for 3 more years is a concern I understand why they brought him to the club (attitude/culture) but I don’t think his on field performances make him a certain starter each week.

Like everyone else I would like us to find 2 centres for next year as well as 2 Edge forwards before next year kicks off.

Releasing contracted players on our books is needed otherwise we will be playing players out of position again next year.

is it legally possible to trade Noffa out thru the shelf company (Balmain)we pay you (manly parra storm) to have him while claiming the 200,sounds fair 2 all?

Not that I want Nofa in the team, however will we be able to claim the entire 200k long service compensation as he only guy eligible after Brooks leaving.
The reported 550k is likely 350k which doesn’t hurt so much on salary cap.
We can use that allowance on any number of players including Api and Klemmer.
We do not need Nof in use to use the full amount.

The money is part of the story,.. he takes up a valuable roster space as well that could be used to upgrade his position…

he really shouldnt be in the NRL side anymore so its not just a waste of money but a position in the Top 30

Manly trying to off load players so they can keep who they want.

FREE TO GO
Ben Condon, Kaeo Weekes, Zac Fulton, Kelma Tuilagi, Karl Lawton
Tuilagi after one year of a three year deal, wow, that's a big call. Whilst not wanting to help Manly out of their salary cap pickle and I'd like us to go hard after Olakuatu if they are in strife, a subsidised Kelma wouldn't be the worst pick up. Manly offered him a lot more and a three year deal, I don't think we should write him off, he still played well for us after he signed
That and I couldn't see manly letting big O go with two years left to run, but stranger things have happened and who knows how bad Manly's salary cap position is? Scott Fulton likely has a fair idea i guess

The problem I see with the tigers is a real issue across the board , we were bottom of all comps , this means some of the juniors we have are not as good as other clubs juniors ,examples Tumeth , Matta , both I feel will not make first grade regular , move them on , reserve grade well we need a broom through it , min Half the team almost as this is the grade that supports first grade , we currently get injuries in firsts and replace the player with a park footballer , not good enough
first grade
Brooks , Tommy , Laurie done , so maybe 3 more
we need to clean this joint out but buy players in Position , good solid week in week out guys who turn up play there spot and compete

Kelma cruises - one decent game every now and then . The typical player who wants the lifestyle but doesnt put in. Not sure these type of players change especially if he is being paid well already for what he is delivering.
