Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Every team needs the non-flashy, consistent and reliable role players,
Twal is one of those, albeit a very average one. He is a very one-dimensional, predictable player who makes zero impact. That’s plodder territory. And if you make zero impact, IMO you are making negative impact.
The best moment of this season was his try, but if we are honest, he should not find a place in any side that wants to properly compete.
If he goes, it’s for the better.

Just as an aside didnt WT (Hagip....?) say WT were on an aggressive recruiting campaign and announcements would be made as the finals progressed? With Cronulla & Raiders dropping out last week, can an assumption be made no possibilities with this 2 teams eg Mawene Hiroti? Hiroti is one I think could be useful to WT but we cant wait around sitting on our hands

Post on Facebook in one of the WT groups that Balmain HM fullback & CUB Mikey Nassar (2023 Balmain HM B&F and Best Back) has been told he isn't a priority. The poster says he's a mate of Mikey's dad.

This is a kid that is already 6'2 and can run under 11s for 100m. The poster alludes to power plays at the club and doing favours for clients of player agents that recruitment personnel are mates with. Apparently Mikey loves the club and wants to progress with his mates but his pathway looks to be blocked.

Obviously this is one side of the story but a kid with those attributes at his age should have a pathway at least until the end of SG Ball.

Just passing on the info. The group is the WT Will Never Die one on Facebook.
He's a dynamic young fullback. Definitely one worth keeping, our fullback and outside backs stocks are still pretty lean across the grades. Unless Tartak has an even better young fullback on the way to us...
Or maybe the kid needs a change in manager! 😂

I regard Twal and Seyfarth as squad fillers. In some ways theyre competing against each other. If Seyfarth has signed an extension then obviously days are numbered for Twal. The truth apparently is that his manager approached WT for an extension a year earlier than needed and WT have said not yet. If he / his manager want to explore other options good on them but I wont worry if he does. I bear him no ill will and understand he wants to secure his future, but in the case his stats and record present is that this is in WT ball court not his. WT have no need to rush on his future offerings.

There are going to be some that read these comments about Twal as "hate".

Fact is- Twal is an ok footballer in a pretty poor squad. He does a job, for sure, but on anything more than $350k upwards he STARTS to become questionable value. Seyfarth, Keppie etc offer similar performance at lower cost.

It's not a knock on Twal. He's probably being paid over what he is worth. If he was a couple of hundred thousand less per year, this conversation probably never exists.

If he stays- great, he's a squad member. If he goes- hopefully it's not to a team I dislike. Dragons could do with a player like Twal. The Storm could definitely make something of Twal.

Twal's role is already covered by the likes of Seyfarth, and ultimately- Klemmer- who does it better.

The the national champs last year for Under 16s the 100m was run in 11.05 seconds. If this kid runs that fast he should give up footy and run for Australia - funny he wasn't even in the race

Seyfarth puts in, seems reasonably smart and can ball play + defend well. He's good to have in the squad. Yes he's very limited and he'll never be a game winner, but I don't see the problem with keeping him in the squad. Guys like that keep the others honest too - it's a lot easier to make a point about standards at training when you have people like him putting in 110% all the time as compared to someone who might feel they can cut corners and get by on talent.

Seyfarth is on his way to becoming the next Luke Brooks but the forward version. Local junior who has shown glimpses of being a good first grader, but overall a very underwhelming player.
What are you fickle , disloyal types going to do when most of our team are tigers juniors and we go through periods of losing once we get competitive.
seyfarth is fine for 19-30 type position in a top 30 . In fact I’d say he’s perfectly suited to that role , and maybe 150-200k a year.
what’s the issue ? He’s a far better footy player than Aitasi James is right now . And way better value for money than 500k twal . (Nothing but love for twally) . The issue isn’t getting better footy players in those spots , it’s finding guys like seyfarth who can fill those roles , do a job , and not cost much , so we can improve our top end talent .
2-3 superstars and we are not just top 8 ,but higher.
Look at Newcastle . Without Ponga at 1 , they were the worst team in the comp . With Ponga at 1 they look like world beaters .Same for Canberra without Wighton ,Cronulla when hynes plays like garbage and on it goes . We don’t have that player as of 2023 . Hopefully fainu or Sullivan move into that role . They certainly have the pedigree to do it
