Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We gave Klemmer a 4 year deal at 29 and we'll past his best. Twal at 27 offers more upside it's no surprise the Bulldogs are wasting no time.
Klemmer is on less than Twal next season. Even the subsequent years are only just more than Twal, and klemmers defence this year was equal to Twals, and his attack is far superior. Twals lack of agility costs us, we can't really afford him, klem and Stef, we need more speed in the middle

In order for a team to come from last place to near the top, you need a couple of superstars.
Proven superstars are not available to be recruited, so the only way is to find some potential superstars and that’s exactly what Wests Tigers are doing. Anyone who is a fair dinkum supporter cannot ask for anymore than that and should be riding the wave in anticipation the glory days from 2005 - 2012 will return, not forgetting we were also in a big struggle prior to finding a couple of emerging stars in Marshall and Farah in the lead up to 2005.
Of course there is no 100% guarantee some of the young players we are banking on will develop into the NRL stars we are hoping they will become and of course there is no 100% guarantee they will remain in Wests Tigers colours, but you need a plan and hope. That is what has been put in place by Wests Tigers and that’s all you can ask for in our current predicament.
Marshall and Farah have gone through this exact same process as young emerging players at a struggling club that nobody predicted would be successful, both went on to have long established NRL careers and played under some of the best coaches in the business, so I’m highly confident they have the expertise, have the club at heart and know what it takes to guide these young emerging players and the Wests Tigers as a club in the right direction.
Don’t expect miracles for another season or two, but if we stick to the plan and let Marshall and Farah develop and build the team they want, it’s a massive chance they will produce the on field results all Wests Tigers supporters have long been craving for.

Look, we need to spend our cap on players that take the field. I 100% agree. Which is why I scream against depth signing, Depth for us means no Superstars.

That said we have always signed for Superstar potential.
What we haven't done is what Cronulla did and focus for a whole year on getting basics right and building a very Gritty side. Ricky loosing so many games because he had no attack, but got the defense right. Then all you need do is sign a Ben Barba (star, perhaps not superstar) and you are in the finals.

Based on this latest info:

Dean Hawkins, could it be Souths v Tigers for a T&T contract?
Bayley Sironen, I'm sure we'd be in talks.
Moga, H Hunt or B Burns, NSW Cup contract for depth & experience?
Corey Allen, centre & backup fullback option?
Ofahiki Ogden, NSW Cup contract for prop depth & experience?

Not much in the off-contact market for top 30 deals, only possibly Sironen.

So we'll be doing our best to secure an on-contract outside back me thinks - one who can be a leader for our outside backs & only chew up 2 seasons to allow progress of our youngsters in '26. Dane Gagai, Reimis Smith & Paul Momirovoski are the ones that to me seem the most gettable.
People bagged him but I reckon Momo was probably our best centre in the dark ages since 2011

I read the Train & Trial players for 2024 do not have to wait until round 11 to play NRL like in previous seasons.
Does anyone know if there is a cap on the contract money Train & Trial players can be paid, or can they potentially be paid as much or more than the minimum wage top 30 contracted players ?

I can understand is offloading Joffa if he was earning big money as he doesn’t have any x-factor in attack to warrant a big money deal.
Twal more often than not pokes his head head through the other side of the defenders and gets us on the front foot due to his good leg speed and has this season started to pass the ball and offload.
He looked our forward most likely to make half or full line breaks, so cannot understand why we are considering letting him go elsewhere why he’s still under contract.
I’d be happy for Klemmer or Bateman to leave early.

Found this on the Raiders forum ( https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35804 ) re salary cap for 2024+.

Important points for us:
- Development player contracts to be replaced by ā€œSupplementary listā€. $650,000 cap for at least four, maximum six players, can play from Round 1.
- Training contracts (train and trial). To rise to $1200 in 2024, $3,000 bonus for any NRL game, can only play NRL from Round 11.
- Clubs can promote players aged 17 to top 30 squads but can’t play until age 18.

Level of the cap
2023: $11.05m
2024: $11.25m
2025: $11.4m
2026: $11.55m
2027: $11.7m

Minimum $120,000 including Super in 2023, $130,000 in 2024 rising incrementally to $145,000 in 2027.

Each club can offer $100,000 on motor vehicle allowance (up to five, valued at $20,000) and has a $300,000 veteran/developed player allowance. A veteran is valued at 10 percent of salary cap value after nine years at one club and 5 percent after 10 years. A developed player is 10 percent of salary cap value if contracted for two or more years before their top 30 contract. I guess that’s subject to the $300,000 cap.

Clubs must spend 97.5 per cent of their cap each year from 2004, rising from the current 95 per cent. (That’s bad.)

Developed players (juniors) cannot be signed before Round 6 of a player’s final contract year. A developed player is a player who has been contracted for at least two years in junior grades and has played less than six NRL or State Cup matches. This is to help development clubs retain players and give them more time to assess players.

Clubs must have 24 top 30 players by 5pm November 1. By Monday of Round 1 they must have 28 players in the top 30. 30 by 30 June (no mid season transfers after that).

Development player contracts replaced by ā€œSupplementary listā€. $650,000 cap for at least four, maximum six players, paid $80,000, can play from Round 1. Bonus of $3,000 for any NRL game.

Training contracts (train and trial). To rise to $1200 in 2024, $3,000 bonus for any NRL game, can only play NRL from Round 11 (ie after Round 10).

Clubs can promote players aged 17 to top 30 squads but can’t play until age 18.

Top 30 players can seek a release from their contract if dropped below State Cup level.

Relocation allowances outside the cap, eg 28 days temporary accommodation, one way travel for player and spouse, children, one month storage costs, removalists.

Milestone games. Debut, 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th and final games for players who’ve played 100 games and one full season at a club. Transport and accommodation for two family members, 10 tickets, the match worn jersey.

Any games. Six tickets for players in any game day top 18 player, two for other top 30 players.
