Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Karl Lawton. If Jake Simpkin moves on which seems likely, we'll need another hooker/utility to support Api & Tallyn. Karl has experience, strong work ethic & can be that forward utility as well. Same contract length as Twal and wouldn't cost much.

Why not both

Found this on the Raiders forum ( https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35804 ) re salary cap for 2024+.

Important points for us:
- Development player contracts to be replaced by “Supplementary list”. $650,000 cap for at least four, maximum six players, can play from Round 1.
- Training contracts (train and trial). To rise to $1200 in 2024, $3,000 bonus for any NRL game, can only play NRL from Round 11.
- Clubs can promote players aged 17 to top 30 squads but can’t play until age 18.

Level of the cap
2023: $11.05m
2024: $11.25m
2025: $11.4m
2026: $11.55m
2027: $11.7m

Minimum $120,000 including Super in 2023, $130,000 in 2024 rising incrementally to $145,000 in 2027.

Each club can offer $100,000 on motor vehicle allowance (up to five, valued at $20,000) and has a $300,000 veteran/developed player allowance. A veteran is valued at 10 percent of salary cap value after nine years at one club and 5 percent after 10 years. A developed player is 10 percent of salary cap value if contracted for two or more years before their top 30 contract. I guess that’s subject to the $300,000 cap.

Clubs must spend 97.5 per cent of their cap each year from 2004, rising from the current 95 per cent. (That’s bad.)

Developed players (juniors) cannot be signed before Round 6 of a player’s final contract year. A developed player is a player who has been contracted for at least two years in junior grades and has played less than six NRL or State Cup matches. This is to help development clubs retain players and give them more time to assess players.

Clubs must have 24 top 30 players by 5pm November 1. By Monday of Round 1 they must have 28 players in the top 30. 30 by 30 June (no mid season transfers after that).

Development player contracts replaced by “Supplementary list”. $650,000 cap for at least four, maximum six players, paid $80,000, can play from Round 1. Bonus of $3,000 for any NRL game.

Training contracts (train and trial). To rise to $1200 in 2024, $3,000 bonus for any NRL game, can only play NRL from Round 11 (ie after Round 10).

Clubs can promote players aged 17 to top 30 squads but can’t play until age 18.

Top 30 players can seek a release from their contract if dropped below State Cup level.

Relocation allowances outside the cap, eg 28 days temporary accommodation, one way travel for player and spouse, children, one month storage costs, removalists.

Milestone games. Debut, 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th and final games for players who’ve played 100 games and one full season at a club. Transport and accommodation for two family members, 10 tickets, the match worn jersey.

Any games. Six tickets for players in any game day top 18 player, two for other top 30 players.

Ha ha ha I wonder who the Rooster's will get besides a brand New Sombrero.

I think they could pick up Twal for that and say a gun outside back and two 17 year old kids

I just can't accept the line that Twal is getting paid too much and moving off his contract is a good move when we still have nofa contracted on the same money for 2 more years...
"Shedding" Twals contract for that reason is a bandaid for a gun shot
We get the long term player discount fro Noffa so his cap hit is not the same as the cap hit we take from Alex.

Here is the article re Gould mentioning a play swap.

Either it's on the mark and it's probably Keppie or Lawton or it's to throw journos off the scent of the Bulldogs, typical Gus.
Noticed this rubbish from The Mole in a related article. Someone threw it out there and having a good laugh that this clown took the bait.

Farcical change proposals highlight Tigers woes

Tigers officials held a meeting last week to find ways of doing things better in 2024 after back-to-back wooden spoons.

I had a 'spy' in the room and he told me three main changes were decided up.

1. The gear steward will travel to away games half a day early to set everything up for the players.

2. Players will no longer be required to carry their bags on away trips.

3. The players will have beer after games in the sheds.

True story - with all their woes in the past decade, these are the moves the Tigers decided on to get out of their rut.

I can smell a three-peat of wooden spoons coming up!

Sezer, Sullivan, Fainu and Galvin. Worst case Doueihi comes into the team in the halves.
Agree.

We have enough depth in the halves for now especially with Doueihi still on the books. We had horrible halves depth this year but we shouldn't over-do it.

Sezer, Sullivan, Fainu, Galvin, and Doueihi is inexperienced but a hell of a lot better than Brooks, Doueihi, Wakeham, Laurie.

Easily pleased.
2 wins from 9 starts is awful.
They only lost to Brisbane 2 weeks ago due to poor officiating, they have unearthed some good players, they are much like the mens team, their halves were not able to capitalise on good field position, they are not far off a top 4 side

Small review

What are people's thoughts of Michael Cheika for the footy GM role.

Know its prob unlikely although have a thought he'd actually be good for the role.

Thoughts??
We need a GM who is aware of juniors, districts and the club. This is a very important period in the club's history. The successful appointment will imo not have time to be eased into the role

I thought I read somewhere a few weeks ago that Matt Betsey's name came up for the role too. Internal progression & then just someone required to take over Pathways/NRLW.
