Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Cade Cust can play. left for England far too early in his career and really should’ve been picked up by another club. if we move Simpkin on he’s the ideal candidate to play 14 imo. can leave Da Silva in Cup to play 80 and ply his trade while Cust covers the halves and hooker.

Sounds like it might be a chance of happening....surely as you said, we would need to move Simpkin on for this to happen though. Part of article below:

Cust’s manager, Chris Orr, has revealed that two clubs are in talks with the 24-year-old to bring him back to Australia.
“I don’t think he will be there (at Wigan in 2024) so we are working on him coming back to the NRL,” Orr told League Express.

“He has a couple of leads back here. We are talking to Wests Tigers and talking to the St George Illawarra Dragons.”
It still remains to be seen where Cust’s future lies beyond 2023.

Do WT have Charlie Staines for 2024. We need his pace and can play back up full back.

Like to see Staines and Junior on the wings in 2024. Noffo elsewhere would be great.
We want to retain him but at the right price according to reports. If we could offload Nof, I think Staines would be announced the next day. I hope they find a way to keep Staines at our club!

It’s supposedly for Sean Keppie with the reasoning being Keppie is on somewhere around 300k which is supposedly half of the 600k Twal is supposedly earning.
I have heard Fulton believes we need more punch from our middles.
Not saying he’s wrong that we need more punch from our middles, but I believe Twal provided the most punch of all our middles throughout season 2023.
So why not keep him and offload someone else ? Klemmer played well for the first half of the season, but dropped off with his impact in the second half of the season. He’s not getting any younger, I’m concerned his form may really drop off moving forward and I’d be much happier moving him on rather than Twal to be honest.
The Manly forum had Keppie being told to leave a while ago. He has the same agent as Benji. We seem to really struggle when negotiating with player managers.

Klemmer was mostly brought in as a mentor to the young Props and middle forwards coming through in our juniors and lower grades. You’re right his form did drop a bit in the second half of the season but apart from Api who didn’t? Everyone was never the same after the Cowboys game where we got hammered, everyone’s form suffered after that it was probably a good thing that Api was out for that game he may have suffered after that too and decided to leave or at least not re-sign and retire after his contract was up. But in regards to Twal I like him I do, but we’re simply paying him too much money for a bench Prop. Most teams wouldn’t have him as a starter, and even with us he’s come off the bench more times then he’s started. Klemmer’s form at the start of the season was why he was perfect to bring in as a mentor to the young ones coming through. If we let him go and gave the mentorship to Twal for the young ones they won’t do good under him. Defence wise probably they would, but attack we they would struggle under him to learn from.
I think KLEMMER was asked to lose weight , as he looked very light , he also stopped his offloads , think all of the above was a sheens direction,

We talk about the importance of culture, yet the club is considering rehiring a bloke that harassed a female employee. Where are our standards? What examples are our management setting.

On the other hand I see videos like this, which breed success.

The sooner we change the board, chairman and ceo, the better. Shame Lee has been extended for THREE more years ffs.

Would Wayne Pearce be a bad selection for Head of Football. Tigers DNA a very smart man who lead the charge for the NRL to continue through covid.
Great idea . I’m not sure though how much he’s been in the trenches in regards to the day to day of nrl life though . He’s apparently a real good administrator for the nrl . I’m not sure on his credentials , but I’d be looking at him for CEO rather than GM. I’d say that’s closer to his wheelhouse in 2023 .

I think everyone does mate. It’s why with Fulton gone all the manly signings are basically Moses clients , and why all of a sudden ours are tartak .
“relationships with managers” is becoming FIFA like in regards to who gets who , sometimes not even a conversation .
By the way , it’s pretty similar in the nba as well . Klutch sports ie. Lebron James’ agency , won’t send any players to The Celtics apparently .Or will reluctantly .
The americanisation of professional sports . Following the americanisation of just about everything else unfortunately .

Keppie ain’t great.
He doesn’t play big minutes, doesn’t make great yardage, doesn’t have awesome tackle efficiencies.
He might be cheaper but it isn’t a great outcome for us.

Being saying it for years, the player management control the movement of players and basically every clubs roster. In a sport that has the gambling industry so entrenched it’s not healthy to have managers wielding so much power, but realistically it will never change

Man how good is coach Prime goin, if only we could bottle some of that juice he's got...

Of course it will....
It's double edged - You don't wanna lose him, But there's a better than fair chance we won't see his best here.
We need a quality fullback (Yesterday) so we've thrown the sink at this one...
We've overpaid for a Rookie for mine... But shit teams have shit contracts.

Well run clubs don't need a fullback yesterday,
So they'd be happy to wait it out until we get him 100 games and a little further along and just pluck him right out from under us.
Seen this show before....
If we can't get our sh*t together by the time Bula is able to negotiate with other clubs it would be in his best interests to leave.

Part of the bula article intrigued me. Lee in relation to Cleary leaving

It was a difficult period there after, it took a long time to stabilise cap and roster. This year was the final year, I believe, of that transition into a new era
Basically says 5 year hangover from cleary
There is no doubt Wests Tigers have been well and truly screwed by a long list of previous coaches and recruitment managers who apart from Madge didn’t have the clubs best interests at heart.
I believe that’s why it has been decided to employ as many people as possible with a strong Wests Tigers connection, sick of being back stabbed by outsiders.
