Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’m not expecting them to be great in 2024… there is a chance that the Fainu’s may not see much first grade …

After that ..let’s hope the club has something with at least a couple of them… but we have seen in the past that more than a few of these big name hyped kids don’t go onto much
I’m sure the warriors had a similar level of expectation for Metcalf and Ford. What makes them any different?

I'm hopeful some of these kids show the potential to be top tier players next year. When it comes to how the team performs it'll be interesting. Looking at the new rules on the cap it just seems to me we might have more players to choose from but heaps of them will be kids.
Broncos fullback is the same age as ours, Broncos 5/8 is 20, younger than Sullivan, 2 years older than Fainu. Broncos half is around same age as Sezer. Our hooker is better. Our spine is veeerry similar to the Broncos. Maybe even a bit better....

Reece Walsh is the best player in the game right now and single handedly winning the Broncos games.

On that basis alone, they are miles ahead.

You then add the goalkicking steering wheel in Reynolds, Walters (somehow) in career best form and Mam playing a supporting role the belies his age and they're on a different planet to our potential spine for next year.

We've hopefully got a lot of upside in key positions and the spine is definitely on the improve, but I fail to see any way that we're comparable to Brisbane.

Almost identical. I can't separate them.
Except Api, he's the best!

Api is obviously better than Walters but to say Fainu, Sullivan, Sezer and Bula are on the same level or close to Walsh, Reyno and Mam is laughable 😂

Well I’m not sure your point. We’ve signed players in a similar fashion really.
Klokstad, experienced and unwanted but signed to return home in a position of need. Sezer.
Ford. Good junior backrower not getting a look in. Fainu.
Metcalf. Outstanding junior half who had a bit of a tough time with injuries and not getting a lot of first grade.
Sullivan.

It’s not just these signings that transformed the Warriors. It’s the Niakore, Walker, Barnett, Martin inform and experienced combination.

Maybe in November we’ll sign ourselves a couple of experienced guys off y but I doubt it.

My point was initially raised as a way of countering someone saying that there is “no talent on the market”…I do get a bit tired of hearing this…

The three players were not really big names previously … and were signed relatively cheap…

They may not be the best players like AFB or Johnson… but I believe they have played their part in their success this year.

You mention Martin - TMM? … what did he do this year? …And Dylan Walker? He didn’t play as well as these three this season…

These guys turned out to be three above average players,,, I think you are underestimating them

Didn’t realise Ford’s age. But deputed 4 years ago and played a bit part of a role with the dragons throughout his time there.
I guess you’re suggesting someone like this bloke. Who has had a similar career to date.
https://www.nrl.com/players/nrl-premiership/sea-eagles/sean-keppie/ though most are throwing their arms in the air filthy that we would sign him over Seyfarth and not at the expense of releasing Twal.

Not really a fan of Keppie….

The club is paying Scott Fulton to find these guys… hope he just isn’t looking at his ex Manly players ….

I wasn’t across everything last year. We’re Ford, Klokstad and Metcalf off contract when they were signed?
There’s what’s on market as in off contract, what’s open to be released as in through discussions with contacts. List number 2 isn’t always revealed to all.

I am he has mongrel, stamina and good awareness but I guess you can’t please everyone. Personally I thought Barnett was a useless signing to the Warriors but Webster showed how effective he was moving off the edge into a simpler role.

I don’t know… but contracts don’t mean much these days right?

The end result was that the Warriors got them over there and they blossomed … maybe you gotta give some credit to the coaching staff as well…

Absolutely, but that’s taking this conversation in a completely other direction. The Warriors when they stood down Nathan Brown got on the front foot and made the exact same statement as Lee and Pascoe in terms of no longer accepting Mediocrity. They conducted a world wide search and ended up no further than the edge of Sydney. It’s worked out so far for them. Good on them.

You guys keep laughing at the suggestion, but Hymel Hunt would be a great addition to a young squad.

Good defensive player, popular everywhere he has played, low mistake rate, averages 120m a game on the wing in his 4 starts this year.

His biggest faults- he HAS had some significant injuries & top tier talents eventually beat him out.

If you can name our top tier talents in the centres & wingers....

He covers both wing & centre. Off contract. 100kg. 29 years old. Was a regular starter until 2022 where he lost a season & came back behind 2 very good wingers this year.

Additionally, off contract- add Corey Allen from the Roosters. Suddenly our lack of depth & experience has 2 players who have taken part in the Origin arena that offer versatility across the wing, centres & even fullback.
We do need a big body metre eater winger who is safe under the high ball and can handle first grade to apply pressure and keep Tupou on his toes.
Hunt could be that player, but we first need to offload Nofa and Kepaoa and he would need to come at the right price and be prepared to be mainly a back up player if Tupou is playing near his best.

I hope you are right. I'm less concerned about their ages. The issue is will they be quality players. We are going to find out.

I'll just quote this post again because good old @tigerballs stated last season Bula was the one to watch. I trust him a little more than my own opinion about Doueihi becoming an elite running 6.
