Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A few things I really like about Reilly.
1. He was playing left centre all year in NSW cup he came up to NRL and we put him on the right and his defence held and his attack still was good. That impresses me as rarely do players change sides well especially rookies
2. When he got hurt against Manly he played on and not just played on but made 2 tackles in a row and got back into the defensive line hurt.
3. Twice during his short nrl career - he was the bloke scrambling back to collect kicks when he wasn't necessarily the bloke who should be back their - covering with effort.

Now he is quick, has good hands and a good step so attack wise he is good but those 3 effort areas above are what really caught my attention.

Even when he came across in NSW cup his deficiency was defence but it wasn't tackling - he puts his shoulder in it was just inexperience of knowing how to defend and what the lines were and of course that was an issue because switching that from 7s rugby to League its very different.

Come across this on a tigers Facebook group

Massively underatted this season. Not biggest
or fastest but he's a smart footballer that can
ball play and has great feet. So many effort
plays and solid shots in defence. He's got that
dawg in him. Only joined the top 30 this year
too. The cup side was a mess with so many
chops/changes & Lambkin playing guys out
of position. Look forward to his growth, he has
something about him, good squad member

the guy can play. As with all young kids - does he have enough in the tank to improve to be a top line NRL centre?
I thought he improved in every first grade game he played. With new halves and a good preseason hopefully he will become a good regular first grader. As seen in these highlights he does put a bit in to his tackling which is more than can be said of most of our backs the last 2 years

I don’t know what it is with Triston.
In the trial vs Warriors, he was quite good. He hit hard on defence, he threw a decent ball and he took the line on and had a go.

Between that game and his first grade debut in round 25 of this year, aid heard nothing but bad things about him. A lot of people on here completely wrote him off and leading into his debut, he was being solidly shit talked on all platforms. He was still criticised after it for being a ball hog.

I thought he was in the top group of our best performers in those last 3 rounds and certainly showed enough that he is worth developing further

To be honest he does need to look for his winger more and not simply rely on himself.
If you watch his highlights reel the only thing his wingers catch is a cold.
He may have got away with it in the lower grades and Rugby 7’s but first grade NRL is a different beast.
Seems a pretty likely player though if he can add that to his game.

Yes he has deficiencies in his game.
I think he can be developed into a strike centre if the right people get involved.

Called for him to be in the team from early in the year , never got a decent shot at proving himself until end of season , guy can play just needed to be given a go instead we stuck with crap players in poor form , guy is a keeper

Totally agree, never given a chance, played in a number of positions and never allowed to settle in. Poor coach identifying his qualities. Glad that coach is gone. They need to show more faith in him and for Gods sake coach him. We need centres who can read a game and pass a ball, not meat heads that can only run straight and still think they can run over the top of opposition centres.

Absolutely, but that’s taking this conversation in a completely other direction. The Warriors when they stood down Nathan Brown got on the front foot and made the exact same statement as Lee and Pascoe in terms of no longer accepting Mediocrity. They conducted a world wide search and ended up no further than the edge of Sydney. It’s worked out so far for them. Good on them.

Never given a fair go. Never new what position he would get from week to week. I blame the coach who persisted with meat heads who could only run straight (and not too fast either) and thought they could just run over the top of the opposition centres. And never pass to the winger!
It's not like that in first grade, they can tackle.
You need a more expansive game to succeed. Step, pass, look for gaps, creative plays.
With some recognition and coaching I think he will be one of our centres 2024.
