Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'm with you @Vicious we need to develop & recruit with an eye on physical attributes for centre/wing, aerial & ball catching ability, finishing ability & footy smarts as well, all things we have lacked in outside backs.

Centres with slick feet & speed (Farnsworth, Manu, Gagai, Graham type) and/or explosive leg power / acceleration / tackle-busting strength (Staggs, Olam, Best, Koula type) AND wingers with speed, power, aerial ability, at least one with height & finishing.

OK, so you can't tell us who we should chase, or who they play for, or what you'd offer them, just more of a 'do better' kinda feel.

That, and cheat the system.

This, despite the fact that the Dolphins were fined $50k last month for doing that exact thing with Deine Mariner at the Broncos..

Got it.
Mate most of our recent and best purchases were not on the market including Klemmer, Bud, Fainu. None of the top clubs wait until they are available. You can talk to who ever you want whenever you want but cant sign a contract more than 12months out without permission.

Bit hard to identify him if he was not playing for anyone.
That's fair, he wasn't playing for an nrl club.

He was playing though, was it the koori knockout where he was playing with Greg Inglis and got the taste for it again?

I hope we have talent scouts at these carnivals...

I know of him. Again, I know he's a Magpies legend it seems but he didn't really register that much beyond there.
He’s like your Kevin Hastings of the roosters. Same era, both low clubs in the comp but great clubmen. Has offers to go to other/better clubs, chose to stay!
Get sick of hearing the ‘do t want to live in my dads shadow’ line, mind u only heard it from Pearce and cogger. Crap call look at Cleary and walters?!?

Mate, c'mon, enough with the technicalities. The only reason way got Bula was due to his relationship with Peni. Our recruitment team sadly didn't identify him...I wish they did, it would give me a little more confidence in the club

I don't think that is entirely fair. Sure Peni got him a look in but they actually decided to use him. The club had high hopes for him without him playing much higher level footy.

It's loony tunes stuff but did Cogger actually state that and did it have any meaning at all. I thought Fulton wanted Cogger and not Sezer but Benji won out.

I agree, but this discussion was around players helping recruit other players, which is what happened.

You don’t know jackshit about me so stop right there with that line of garbage.
You replied to me champ. I said this was our worst season given the amount of positives attached to it. I said nothing about outlooks to the future, nothing about juniors coming through. I said this is our worst season yet and you tried to smugly discredit this by pointing to a season where we weren’t beat in 10 games. Newsflash…we won 4 games this year and came last with 19 losses. Luckily there were 3 byes or we likely would have lost over 20 games.
???
Why are you so aggressive about nothing lol “RAhhh someone disagrees with me on a forum …” I think what you’re saying factually wrong and I explained why . I 💯 disagree . Even offered 3 other season and why I think that way .
You act like a baby , calling people champ and generally behaving like a Neanderthal on here .
Put the gun down Janie …. It’s like your take on the Fainu brother …. Jesus …

I agree.

In the case of those blokes, they were all given permission prior to explore their options, which helps to facilitate those discussions I'm sure.

Let's hope that there's a few more of these types of situations open up this off season.

Yes understood.
You do need to remember though, that when it comes to football, you are a bloody idiot.
What the hell is with you Tucker!

Nothing idiotic about this comment:
"I can't see a single player on the list, with the possible exception of Crichton, who the Tigers might have had a realistic chance of signing and who would have been a significant difference maker. Sure, there are probably some names here and there that we could have used. But all this whining about how we don't sign anyone is pretty pathetic TBH."

I agree, there is no one I see on the GF list that we could have signed that was instrumental or significant in that game.

You would have to go down the list of the top 8 to find signing targets.
Cronulla, Easts, etc. to find someone we would want.

Heck we have 2x Junior centers in Reilly and Feledy... Starford Toa who may be best at Center... Naden who surprisingly is better at Wing... and out turnstyles in Nofo and Tupou. We really need to upgrade our backline and I don't know how we would do that without making stupid big money offers (i.e. 900k) for a Olam/Manu/Bradman Best.... When we have tried to be smart, it has backfired (Ken M for example). Braidon Burns would be an upgrade on those in our backline, yet he is off to the superleague.

Didn’t hear it from his mouth, but was well quoted. Heard the recruitment dude from the knights say they were confident in signing him as he didn’t want to go to the tigers due to that fact.

Why don't we chase Marika Koroibete for a swan song
Because winning off a strong winger is our problem!

We have always had awesome wingers, although some did not hang around.
Koroibete
Tukali
Nofo (5 years ago he would really cross the line, yes horrid defense but a try or two per game).
Pat Richards

Because our team was so driven by the wingers. We don't get the proper structures developing. It disguises where we are at.

Hiring Koroibete will give us a try per game. Now if Koroibete could train up Tupou to be a gun winger, sure hire Koroibete. There would be knowledge he could impart.

Yet for years we have relied on strong wingers. This has disguised our problems with team structure and defense.
