Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Looking like a bad decision not to sign Jack Cogger when we had the chance,
He’s a solid 7 who competes hard and digs into the line and creates space on his outside.
In saying this the players we have recruited in Jayden Sullivan and Latu Fainu no doubt have more individual brilliance, we just have to hope they quickly develop the mindset the compete hard, kick smartly and defend strongly for 80 mins
I'm not sure he would survive our club culture.

Fainu and Sullivan are our future.

Turuva is a good finisher who Carrie’s the ball strongly, but we ideally need big bodied, tall, fast & athletic wingers who are very good under the high ball and can score long distance tries.
I think he ticks all those boxes other than the fact he’s a short arse

It sounds like they've already done that. Fainu, Sezer (I'm not confident in him) and Sullivan are all coming in. We also have Galvin coming through as a development player.

I'm interested in who else they gain prior to next season starting. I'm assuming some outside backs.
Galvin is a gun but I believe he will play lock longer term.

I can understand both sides of the fence here with this one, Benji wanted Sezer and ultimately won out. Benji is probably thinking we need that leadership and experience for a season 2 at most.
Fulton wanted to sign Cogger less experienced but more upside, but the problem with this is he blocks a pathway for our younger blokes (Sullivan, Fainu and Galvin) possibly even throw Large, Conti and Mason in that mix. But none of them are guaranteed to make it so its a toss up and Cogger would have wated at least 3 years so i understand the going with Sezer thinking.
If they signed Cogger might have lost another young half. At least with Sezer we have a chance of keeping the young guys.

Again all around us clubs are signing decent players , and what are we doing jack shit . The story was benji would pull players to the club and then the cherry on top was Fulton was on board and he would bring players , o.k we got two untried brothers and a ageing 1/2 back and a 1/2 who was shown the door by the drag queens , not a recipe for a club who has just got the wooden twice . For god sake get out and buy 2 hard nuts in the forwards and 1-2 centres and give us a chance
100%.
Our recruitment has been dogshit for season 2024.

Maybe we should consider seeing if the Broncos would take Twal’s full contract & release Xavier Willison to us.

Broncos get a top 17 experienced prop in their premiership window. They need to replace Flegler & Palasia and so far only have Fletcher Baker incoming.

We get a monster blockbusting middle that we lack who is ready to play more NRL off the bench.

Defensively sound teams win consistently.

We need wide players that are not a liability.

Adding Sezar, Fainu & Sullivan gives the club more direction in attack that we lacked. Putting them in comparison to other teams is fine, but so long as they do a better job than Brooks/Wakeham etc, the TIGERS are better.

We are reknowned for poor defence out wide. We need wingers/centres that are not beaten by simple maths sums. Forwards were upgraded last year. Halves this year. Just don't leak points & we are better.

Momo, Hymel Hunt, Olam...these guys solidify one side. To'a/Tupou on the other side....

T&T target (IMO) should be Cowboys 2nd Row/Centre Taniela Sandrugu.

Powerful runner. A little older (26) but represents Fiji internationally. Versatility makes him valuable.

A couple of names that haven't signed elsewhere that we had distant links t0- Nathan Brown & Connor Watson- both still unsigned next season.

I know the Dogs were chasing Watson, but look to have Kurt Mann signed up. I imagine that leaves Watson on the market. We could do A LOT worse.

Brown on a T&T could offer value. I know there was a link for a short while not long ago.

Also, Tautau Moga was rumoured- still unsigned for next season.

Mawene Hiroti looks to have re-signed with the Sharks.

Youngsters Grant Anderson & Dean Ieremia from the Storm remain unsigned- both wing/centre/fullback types.

Last one- young second rower from Canberra, Clay Webb, is a real goer. Off contract. Good attitude. Would like him learning behind Bateman.

There's not a lot of talent on offer. The important thing is to add pieces that serve a purpose.

Having a look at the actual recruitment for 2024, it's ludicrous to say we've significantly underperformed. https://www.zerotackle.com/nrl/player-movements/

Do you think Brisbane's incoming haul (Fletcher Baker) is particularly impressive? How about Cronulla's (no-one)? Maybe you think Manly have injected some real quality into their roster (Luke Brooks, Aitasi James, Jaxson Paulo, Tommy Talau)? How about Melbourne (no-one)? Or the Dragons (Kyle Flanagan, Hame Sele)?

Looking down the list, the only teams that have added genuine quality are:
- The Bulldogs, with Stephen Crichton. That deal was done ages ago and they've also added a bunch of nuffies to clog up their cap again (Jaeman Salmon, Bronson Xerri, Blake Taafe).
- The Dolphins, with Herbie Farnworth and Thomas Flegler. Fair play, those are good signings. But they must have an absolute mile of cap room, and they're in Queensland (which helps with some players, god knows why) and they have Wayne Bennett.
- Warriors, with RTS. They obviously had the inside line there and we don't need a fullback anyway.
- Souths, with Jack Wighton. If you think that was a level playing field I've got a bridge I'd like to sell you.
- The Roosters, with Dom Young and Spencer Leniu. See above.

I can't see a single player on the list, with the possible exception of Crichton, who the Tigers might have had a realistic chance of signing and who would have been a significant difference maker. Sure, there are probably some names here and there that we could have used. But all this whining about how we don't sign anyone is pretty pathetic TBH.

Yes understood.
You do need to remember though, that when it comes to football, you are a bloody idiot.
