Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A look ahead at players off contract in 2024 & even 2025...

The Tigers ABSOLUTELY need to develop their own stars. The next 2 years do not produce a whole lot of Off-Contract stars. There are definitely chess pieces to be added, but no out & out club-changing options.

Love him or not- but Tim Sheens had the right idea- development club.

That’s a good thing. You’d probably run in to Pascoe on his next Griswalds family holiday.
I know he likes his holidays, dresses funny and has a silly looking moustache, but is that enough reason to dislike the bloke ?
The poor bloke must constantly feel like he’s been found guilty and convicted without a trial.

If you were in charge of a professional football outfit that very rarely shows any footballing ability, wouldn’t you be working stupid hours during this period to try and improve the organisation. Seriously man, his relaxed approach to everything is so Wests Tigers. I think he must know he’s cooked.

In all seriousness I don’t know what he thinks and I have no idea if he’s good or bad for the Wests Tigers, maybe the review will help identify that if they speak with the right people with no agendas.
Whether he’s good for the Wests Tigers or not, it’s pretty clear to me that many people like to put blame on and put the boot into him without any hard evidence to be aware of he’s a genuine part of their gripes or not.
I don’t like unfairness and don’t like anyone being made a scapegoat unless it’s genuinely proven and warranted.

A few weeks back, I think it was Sunday footy show Chammas said something like he thought Tigers would go to 1.4 mill to get Luai and that would probably get it done. I think your mate might just be repeating that

To counterbalance the Luai argument- as a club, do you sign Jayden Sullivan & Latu Fainu for 4 YEARS, only to sign Luai BEFORE Sullivan & Fainu touch the field for the club?

Forgetting to even mention that Galvin is at the club too.

I GET the player- Luai is quality.

But, seems like poor roster management.

Suaali'i or Koloamatangi makes more sense, roster-wise.

He has literally scapegoated nearly everyone lol surely he’s running out of farm animals.

That was my exact thoughts regarding Luai.
It’s a hard one for the club recruitment decision makers which you would sincerely hope it’s Benji making the final call as our fans will get on their high horse and ridicule the club if we do not sign a marquee player for 2025.
Ensuring it’s the right player, with the right attitude and willing to sign for the right price is the hard part.

Jarome Luai has won three premierships, been to four grand finals, has played Origin and has led his country to a World Cup final. he’d also be 28 in 2025, have arguably his best years ahead of him and at least another 5 in the NRL.

if there is an opportunity to get that deal done, you do it, and you worry about the consequences later. Latu and Sullivan both have promise, but again, Luai’s resume speaks for itself. sign the bloke, deal with what comes next afterwards.

You're right.
Reading this thread, it's always speculation and guesswork.
That's OK.
It's a never-ending process towards ............... finding the mix of players to somehow bring the joy of 2005 back.
As champion @Halbrowne61 said elsewhere, we're in a results business.
I'd like to think that with this review underway, and recommendations that will be truly implemented without fear or favour, we as a club might be half way there.

You do realise that it can't be done, right? We can't have even formerly offered anyone under contract with a contract offer for 2025 yet. We can only start formalities in November, so at best a player may have agreed to our offered terms, but there's still a month for them to change their mind before anything is actually 'done'.

Some people suggesting it's Luai is extremely hard to believe too. He's literally just won a grand final last week and is on holidays with his mates. There's not a chance in the world that he's been speaking to his agent about contracts for 2025 during a time like this. He'd be celebrating with his mates now and have been fully focused on winning the GF over the past few months
Common sense comment plus I don’t think he has an agent atm???

Who knows what the plans are longterm for Sullivan! Maybe he transitions to a #14 in 25 to cover halves, hooker, fullback & lock.

No reason in future years, Fainu & Luai our halves, Galvin & Large centres, Sullivan utility, Makasini & Laulilii wings, Bula fb 🤩

Paying anyone outside the spine 1.2m a season is just stupid

Yeah thats where im at with this rumour, big money is for spine players we have a very good 1 & 9 locked away so that only leaves the halves. We just signed Fainu and Sullivan on 4 yr deals hard to see Fulton going in and locking someone in above them unless they are elite. The only one that remotely fits that bill is Luai and imo isnt elite but is a marquee for us.

In saying that i can see us doing something ridiculous like giving Suali'i stupid money or someone similar, it would be just our style make us a laughing stock once more.

Is this Alex Conti fella good? Also I would drive JAC to the Tigers in exchange for Twal in a heart beat. JAC would rather self promote his brand than try and help us to our next premiership. No wonder he was so desperate to come back to Sydney

Don't know much about Conti but seeing as we let him go you can lock him in as future immortal 🤣
I dunno about a Twal Jac trade, but if you were willing to drive Jac to Concord, i'd make the trek down from the central coast and hand deliver Nofo as a swap.
Similar money (i think) both need a change i would be happy with Staines and Jac on the wings and Junior in the centres.
