Season likely over for Moses

NRL.com Sat 12 Aug 2023, 08:53 PM

The Eels have confirmed Mitchell Moses suffered a suspected fractured eye socket with scans to possibly rule him out for up to six weeks and the season.

Moses sustained the injury inside the opening five minutes of the match but played the remainder of the first half with coach Brad Arthur praising his playmaker for playing on as long as he did.

And to think, after all this time, the only thing Jackson Hastings needed was a bit of love. And the right environment.

According to those up Newcastle way, there is no great secret to getting the best out of the much-maligned and much-misunderstood Hastings.

“Jackson has found a playing group and community that brings the best out of him,” Knights coach Adam O’Brien says. “They believe in him and, in return, he’s enabled everyone else to be best they can be.

“We needed that, and he’s delivered.”

Sorry. I was talking about Keebra Park making it top grade at Wests Tigers. My bad. I thought Bula maybe had a chance in the Albananese team. The PM team. He is indigenous I believe. Somewhere.

Just saw the footage of Jimmy the jet getting arrested at the courthouse.

News.com.au has it available to read, yet I note they put former Wests Tigers and Souths player not Bronco's, Panthers or Titans player under his picture.

We can get in the papers without even trying to do anything

Former NRL star James Roberts has been arrested at a Sydney Courthouse on Wednesday afternoon as police investigate allegations of AVO breaches, making a dramatic outburst as he was shepherded into a police wagon.

The ex-first grader was due to face a magistrate for an apprehended violence order mention in which his wife Anna Jovanovic is the listed person in need of protection.

The former centre – also known as Jimmy the Jet – was seen to be agitated before police officers attended the courthouse and escorted him out to a waiting police van.

Roberts, 30, was then seen to swear and punch the van’s rear window as he climbed inside, causing police officers to flinch backwards.

He then yelled out multiple times inside the van, saying “see what you do to me?”.

Roberts played 168 games throughout his 11-year career for the Wests Tigers, South Sydney Rabbitohs, Gold Coast Titans, the Brisbane Broncos and Penrith Panthers.

In a brief statement, a NSW Police spokesman confirmed Roberts was assisting officers with their inquiries at Mascot police station.

“On September 15, 2023, officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command commenced an investigation into reports of alleged breaches of an apprehended domestic violence order involving a 35-year-old woman,” the NSW Police spokesman said.

“Following inquiries, police arrested a 30-year-old man at the Downing Centre Local Court, around 12pm today.”

NSW Courts were unable to provide any of the order’s conditions while it remains provisional only.

Roberts is to return to court on the AVO matter on October 25.

The Kempsey-born man played his junior football with the Ballina Seagulls, and also played at representative level for the Indigenous All-Stars and the 2018 NSW Origin squad.

He retired from first-grade football in 2022 but in 2023 played for the Hills Bulls in the NSWRL. (DT)
