Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Ideal back line for 2024 and somewhat realistic.

1 Jahream Bula
2 Josh Addo-Carr
3 Juniour Tupou
4 Moses Suli
5 Charlie Staines

Depth: Starford Toa, Tristan Reiley & Brent Naden, Feledy (good state cup players)

AJ, Nofo, released.
IMO Suli and Tupou offer the same style of play. Brut strength and not much else. Easily defended. one of them OK but not two with the same mind set.
Reilly needs to be there to offer brains and a step/swerve/pass. A variation in attack. Keep the defence in two minds.

Working on a budget and realistic options.
Not much available.

Reily, even though I guess he held his own in our losing team in those few games - I'm not sold on him.

JAC would be a massive upgrade...but we are not even in the market.

Nofa and Tupou are both shockingly low IQ wingers. Both also slow. Both poor defensively.

Yet we have not prioritised a winger or center for ages.

Staines is our back winger by a mile and he looks set to be left without a deal.

At this stage we should have told Nofaluma "state cup or UK, you decide" and be out looking for a winger with speed.

Lee loves him though, so no one has the courage to make the call.

It is absolutely bonkers how our roster in the backline is formed and even worse that Staines wasn’t the priority over Seyfarth roster spot wise.

We have young kids as our halves future and they have next to nothing outside them to work with.

I think given a run he is a Shane Elford type backline player. Someone no one really looks at or expects anything from outside of doing the basics well. In attack he was miles off the pace but defensively looked ok…He just looks like a typical reggie player all over - can score in reggies but the speed of NRL is just not his caper.

I agree.

We're desperate for some competitive outside backs... I'd like to see him come good and fill that role for us, sadly I can't see it happening.

We lack some serious experience and speed in our backline. Fox would add a lot to our squad as a former Australian and NSW representative. Defensively he’s solid and still has some pace at 28 no one in that bulldogs side looked good last year so won’t put too much into it.

I’d circle both Olam and Addo-Carr with the goal to reunite them here as I’m pretty sure they played the same side at Melbourne.

1. Jahreem Bula
2. David Nofoaluma/ Charlie Staines
3. Junior Tupou/ Starford To’a
4. Justin Olam
5. Josh Addo-Carr

With our pack and new halves pairing with Api guiding them around we could make some serious noise.

Problem is moving on the deadwood that no other side wants.

Demps i put you up for our retention and purchase committee job , 100% agree this would be a good upgrade , Suli could be a dark horse

we have some quality pieces that could be offered up in swap deals. Simpkin is a young hooker who has talent and a long career ahead of him. Kepaoa has some errors in him but has clear gamebreaking ability. Tumeth is a tough as nails U19 Origin player who would do well in a decent system. I think all three of those would be looked at by rival clubs, and the former two could easily be used as trade bait.

Nofoaluma's a tricky one, but you could offer to pay half his freight to send him off. suddenly a 200 game first grader at $250k looks pretty attractive. Doueihi has apparently been looked at by Penrith, but I don't think we're any chance of parting ways, certainly not this year. ideally you pay him out for this year and have him on a part time deal when he comes back.

Fulton and Marshall have a lot of work to do. outside backs is where we are in dire need of strengthening and we need to get a wriggle on before preseason kicks off.

We should be contacting Parra today then. They are after a winger (Addo Carr). They can take Noffa at $250k and we can grab the Foxx. Hagipantelis can increase his annual sponsorship to cover the shortfall if speculation is right that he was a major backer of Noffa's 5 year deal.

Yeah I think Nofa would be a big 'win' if we could offload him given the size of his contract for a winger.

Maybe we could entice a club to take him if we have another player they want and we can package Nofa in plus pay a bit of his freight.

The one I think could happen is Blore & Nofa to Bulldogs, Addo Carr to us. We take a player they don't want to maintain, vice versa and they also get Blore who Gus rates very highly!

As much as I want Blore to stay, this gets us speed & experience in the backline, frees up a 2nd roster spot to re-sign Staines (more speed) and gives an opportunity to Samuela Fainu to fill Blore's boots.

Should I get on the phone to Gus?

Does anyone know what the go is with Billy Smith?

The Roosters backline for 2024 is looking like:

Dominic Young, Joseph Suaalii, Joseph Manu and Daniel Tupou .. maybe they've told him to play NSW Cup for a year? If he stays injury free, much like Connor Tracey, he would be an improvement on our centres, and in my opinion, an improvement on the centres we've been linked to

What is it with your Suli love Demps. Bloke is the only centre in NRL history who is dumber and lazier than Joey Leilua

Reading that Benji is interested... It makes sense to me.

Playing with his friends the Fainu bros & for his first club, under Benji.... I can see it working out.

I get the criticisms but he's about worn out his welcome in the NRL and a reunion like this could really see him become his best.

I don't disagree with what you're saying but I can see something good happening here.
