Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Dragons have officially lodged Joey Manu a $4.8 million over 4 year deal on day 1 of free agency.

Flanagans not wasting anytime - doubt Luai will be chased as Manu is the priority.
Sometimes that's a warning shot. "If Manu takes this, we'll have no money for you."

If he continues to stay with Roosters for 800k a year, surely that would be enough for the NRL to step in.
Winning premierships is no longer an excuse for them as they only just managed to scrape into the 8 this year.
Boy I really hate the roosters anf I hope Manu goes to the dragons.... or us if we had a chance 😀

Welsby a much better fullback than Bula.
If we sign Welsby, play Bula in the centres or let him go elsewhere.
How can anyone actually say stuff like this and keep a straight face . It might be true , but 1 player has been playing at a high level in nrl the other in SL , and the occasional test .
So many backs from England have come here , and outside of Widdop who came when he was 14 , so was basically developed here , and Herbie Farnsworth (exactly the same story) , not one player has done anything here since Elery Hanley .
If they were developed in England there’s more chance he will bust than there is her will something .
I could list 10 backs who have tried thier luck to not just not be a star here , but most of the time , then end up on the wing for Newtown or norths .

Once a contract offer is lodged you pretty much can’t use that money elsewhere - so until Manu has officially declined or accepted the deal they can’t use that $ to even give Luai an actual offer.

I don’t think we need to stress too much about the Dragons with the expected Luai pursuit as I’ve been told ever since Flanagan took over their full priority is towards Joey Manu.

I’ve been told however to keep an eye out for Cronulla - they’re keeping tabs on Luai as well.

These stats are just so pointless. But in a way suggesting that Stefano is quicker than all of our backs bar one also explains why they all need to go....
That would have been his sprint in the Cowboys game at Leichhardt which he got called back for being offside but was flying for a big man. Maybe they measure time and distance travelled forgetting the 10 metres he was offside to get their averages.

We won't sign Welsby,...but he's also not a better fullback than Bula. With any good team, your teammates make you better.

Bula just needs the supporting cast. Welsby's best position imo is centre.

I think it's more than chasing prems for Manu. The Roosters gave him a contract from a very young age, paid for his education and stuff. I think he is loyal as a result from all the club did for him and his family when he was young.
Not saying this applies to all the Roosters contracts.

Reposting this from a couple of months ago ...

Found this on the Raiders forum ( https://thegh.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=35804 ) re salary cap for 2024+.

Important points for us:
- Development player contracts to be replaced by “Supplementary list”. $650,000 cap for at least four, maximum six players, can play from Round 1.
- Training contracts (train and trial). To rise to $1200 in 2024, $3,000 bonus for any NRL game, can only play NRL from Round 11.
- Clubs can promote players aged 17 to top 30 squads but can’t play until age 18.

Level of the cap
2023: $11.05m
2024: $11.25m
2025: $11.4m
2026: $11.55m
2027: $11.7m

Minimum $120,000 including Super in 2023, $130,000 in 2024 rising incrementally to $145,000 in 2027.

Each club can offer $100,000 on motor vehicle allowance (up to five, valued at $20,000) and has a $300,000 veteran/developed player allowance. A veteran is valued at 10 percent of salary cap value after nine years at one club and 5 percent after 10 years. A developed player is 10 percent of salary cap value if contracted for two or more years before their top 30 contract. I guess that’s subject to the $300,000 cap.

Clubs must spend 97.5 per cent of their cap each year from 2004, rising from the current 95 per cent. (That’s bad.)

Developed players (juniors) cannot be signed before Round 6 of a player’s final contract year. A developed player is a player who has been contracted for at least two years in junior grades and has played less than six NRL or State Cup matches. This is to help development clubs retain players and give them more time to assess players.

Clubs must have 24 top 30 players by 5pm November 1. By Monday of Round 1 they must have 28 players in the top 30. 30 by 30 June (no mid season transfers after that).

Development player contracts replaced by “Supplementary list”. $650,000 cap for at least four, maximum six players, paid $80,000, can play from Round 1. Bonus of $3,000 for any NRL game.

Training contracts (train and trial). To rise to $1200 in 2024, $3,000 bonus for any NRL game, can only play NRL from Round 11 (ie after Round 10).

Clubs can promote players aged 17 to top 30 squads but can’t play until age 18.

Top 30 players can seek a release from their contract if dropped below State Cup level.

Relocation allowances outside the cap, eg 28 days temporary accommodation, one way travel for player and spouse, children, one month storage costs, removalists.

Milestone games. Debut, 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th and final games for players who’ve played 100 games and one full season at a club. Transport and accommodation for two family members, 10 tickets, the match worn jersey.

Any games. Six tickets for players in any game day top 18 player, two for other top 30 players.

Before we get any kicking and screaming because we haven’t signed any new players on the first day.

Just making sure everyone is across the new guidelines.

Where even if a player agrees to come to our club, the incumbent club has 10 days to counter.

I posted yesterday, incorrectly, that I couldn't wait until today for the announcement that we had signed 5 or 6 representative players.

@phil1986 you are 100% correct and the club will not be able to announce these signings for another 10 days.

Sorry about that Chief.

With the Scott Fulton factor & new Jersey Flegg coach Leon Latulipe coming from coaching Manly JF last season, I would not be surprised if we have signed Manly JF fullback Lehi Hopoate who is still eligible for Flegg. Has come up through the grades with the Fainu brothers and probably in the top 3-4 players in their Flegg team last season.
