Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Luai is probably worth $800K.
Definitely not more, and he’s delusional if he thinks he is (which given the Instagram post, I think he needs a psych evaluation).

Can’t wait for some random team to offer 1.2 million at him .. Just to stuff Ivan up 😂
He's worth more than that, we all know quality halves are a premium and he's in the top ten league wide. The market dictates the worth and the market will easily say that a Top ten half is worth $1m+
If he can maintain some form and deliver results to his new club is a different question.

Luke Brooks just got $700 k per year …

Luke fricken Brooks 🤣…

How many Origin games has he played ?

If I’m Luai I’m telling teams to pay me double what Luke Brooks got

the issue with this year was the messaging . It wasn’t coaching or lack of , it was a clear defined voice in the locker room . And clear messaging around playing style .
From the messaging and wording I’ve seen from Benji , I personally believe we will be far more structured this year , with a return to block plays and conventional 2023 football .
I believe with the rule changes , and faster play the ball , and ruck speed , Sheens over estimated the impact this would have on the game , and rightly IMO , thought up tempo , expansion type football would be the best way to expose defences .
Problem is , the ruck didn’t speed up enough and the supposed crack down died off real early , and this attacking strategy was not even remotely acceptable in even a slightly faster ruck speed nrl . So we were left at the starting blocks . And had to pivot on the fly .
I don’t think his attacking strategy was wrong , the NRL did what the NRL does , and reverted back to the status quo. Which I guess we should have predicted in hindsight .

One thing I know is the most flamboyant attacking players tend to have strong defensive strategies when they coach , and wingers and front rowers tend to be the most creative coaches . For whatever reason . I believe it’s because we all pay attention to the things we arnt good at , and don’t come easy to us . Especially in an environment like sports where the whole goal is to continually grow .
But anyways I could be wrong . But I’m far more confident that the 24 coaching staff is closer to the status quo. Where as this past year I was hoping that we were making the right choices .

I think there is a real chance Cleary is happy to see Luai walk. He is lowballing knowing there will be a backlash from the media and the fan base if they slam the door in his face. So offer low and another club comes in high and you don’t look bad.

Of course the cynical me thinks, Cleary is getting the figure 800 out there for everyone to see especially the salary cap auditors, so that will be on the books and what he ends up will be something completely different

Yes I know. Honestly I see Luai’s perspective here. I’d be pretty pissed off myself if my coach decided to play down how much I’m actually worth the moment I start negotiating my new contract. It’s such a limited career, so these players need to make as much before the well drys up.
I would be surprised to even see Luai as a Panther in 2024 after those comments. I reckon Jarome would be put right off. Cleary is messing with his livelihood. He has every right to be filthy.

On what planet would the coach of a triple premiership winning half come out and say something like that.

Opening the pathway for Jett Cleary to rise the ranks in the coming seasons as 5/8.

I would agree on most of these, but would have to strongly disagree on a few of these.

Nofoaluma - As bad as he has been recently, he had 5-6 very solid years where he improved each year and was a highly regarded winger. He has just aged poorly due to his own attitude and personality. His downfall is on him and him only imo.

Liddle - Is a solid first grader and was among the dragons best this year. He showed promise here too, but he couldn't string enough games together without getting injured. Have to give him a pass given his horrible run of injuries.

Sironen - Was never good... In fact you talk to people who played in around the juniors with him, he wasn't even a top 10 junior in his own age group. The only reason he ever touched first grade was because of his last name and his size. Rugby League nepotism personified. So i agree that he was a disappointment, but he should never have been there in the first place to even be a disappointment.

Garner - Nothing was ever expected of him. He was a Manly junior who didnt make it there, went to the Roosters lower grade and didn't make it there either. He was never touted as a young talent or ever expected to be a first grader. In fact, the Tigers were the club that developed him from a non-first graded into a first grader. His performances were just as good from his first game with is to his last. He should be regarded as a development W not a disappointment.

Tuilagi - Similar to Garner, was never thought of as a first grader even at the Storm, a club renowed for making first graders out of fringe players. Tuilagi has played for the Storm, Tigers and Manly and played his best football for the Tigers out of those clubs. That says it all really. Most fans were disappointed when they heard he was leaving. Bet none are disappointed now.
Liddle is not a solid first grader. And he got dropped during the year for Moses Mbye so that tells you all you need to know. Are you Russell in disguise?

Feel like Aloiau (gronk) leaving allows them to keep Haumole at his price tag.

AFB, is what.. 800k prob?
They've already got 3, 4 players on big bucks and a few others like Brooks, Garrick, etc that wouldn't be cheap.

I'm thinking Dogs.
AFB is on a million, Dogs to offer 1.2 and a player to swap it else the Wahs won't release him

You'd have to think the coach is aware of a far superior offer on the table which has upset him.

Hopefully we can secure that deal - he showed some really really good signs at points throughout the year and he’s still extremely raw converting from Rugby playing the way he did at the age of 21.

He’s also 191cms and still growing into his body. I believe he’ll be a massive threat in the league one day if I’m being completely honest.
Mate can you shed any light I heard today a rumour that Jake is going to Penrith to play 9 for a trade for there 5/8 any truth to it ?

As long as its not us. Especially at #6

He is no Mitch Moses or Nathan Cleary

Not too sure - what I’m being told is Penrith will not release him early and if he leaves it’ll be for 2025. However, I do know that Penrith have been keeping tab on Simpkin for a while and have interest in him.

An official offer hasn’t even been presented to Luai just yet - Benji has a ruthless recruitment strategy where if there’s a star player on the market available we’ll be one of the teams calling to enquire at the very least. Whether, we take that next step of an official offer well we’ll have to wait and see.

But I’ve been saying it for a while that the Luai to Tigers rumblings have been getting louder ever since that GF.

great post. Marshall has said thousands of times that while he looked like he was completely off the cuff and unstructured, there were systems put in place around him to be able to do that, and he capitalised on it due to his natural gifts. zero doubt in my mind that our attacking and defensive play will be highly structured.

Bomber will help us considerably in the defensive stakes, and with Sheens out of the building I'd be fairly confident that we'll play high percentage, structured football with the ball in hand. we're not going to look like 2010s Melbourne or the Roosters – players will be told to back themselves – but I think you saw the blueprint midway thru the year.
