Doubt Olam would add anything to swaying a player to join us or another team.

Luai & AFB are big ticket players. If we are half a chance you do what’s needed to make the deal happen. I would be disappointed if we don’t snare AFB because he needs to move, we have cash & this is the real test of the Benji/Fulton Power. It would also help in the retention of Stefano and Pole. Luai is harder to see moving given the bond and success down the road from us the Panthers offer.

The Wests Tigers have stepped up their interest in Jarome Luai after holding another meeting with the Penrith superstar aimed at securing his signature.

This masthead understands Luai met key Tigers powerbrokers on Tuesday as they continue a concerted campaign to convince the three-time premiership winner that he should choose the club over staying at the Panthers.

It is understood the Tigers tabled a four-year-deal worth in excess of $4.5 million for Luai late last week. Their offer is significantly more than the Panthers can offer the Samoan international, who has entered the final year of his deal with Penrith.

The Bulldogs are also believed to be monitoring the situation and it is understood club officials have held talks over a move for Luai.

However, the Tigers are believed to be more advanced in discussions with Luai as they look to tie up a deal for the 26-year-old before he returns to preseason training with Penrith at the end of next week.

Under the NRL’s new contracting model, Penrith will get confirmation from the NRL of the Tigers interest once Luai gives an indication that he ready to accept the rival offer.

The Panthers will then have 10 days to convince him to change his mind. It is understood negotiations have not reached that point yet, although the latest meeting between the Tigers and Luai could be seen as an indication that both sides have a genuine interest in getting a deal in place as soon as possible.

Luai is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a shoulder injury that he carried through the closing stages of the NRL season.

it's hard not to get excited, but you're right. the whole "what if" is in the back of the mind because of how many times we've been burnt.

this feels like Black Money are trying to get the Bulldogs to come to the table for one last crack. Luai's now toured WT HQ and met our admin and is close to going to Penrith for one last counter offer.

Luai might be worth 500k more than Brooks. But Brooks is worth about 650-700, not the million he got in his final year here. So Luai at 1.5mil is not a bargain and will only hamstring the club for the next few years if he were on that.

Luai might be worth 500k more than Brooks. But Brooks is worth about 650-700, not the million he got in his final year here. So Luai at 1.5mil is not a bargain and will only hamstring the club for the next few years if he were on that.

Reports seem to suggest our offer is around $1.1m x 4 years.

Penrith aren't budging on their offer of $850k x 2 years.

I think Penrith might give him an additional year, but they'll steer clear of a four year deal or increasing their offer, which as you say does put us in the box seat.

there's still a little bit to play out I think in regards to the Dogs. there's every chance that Ciraldo and Gus, who have been directly involved with Luai's development, may not view him as a 7 and may look elsewhere. I still expect them to come in late, but it is surprising there hasn't been anything concrete.

$850k is all they can afford without blowing their cap model to pieces. 2 years is to ensure that when Jett Cleary is of age he can partner his brother at the scrumbase. that's what's going on here.
