I think he is the priority outside of Luai. if Luai is to play halfback as rumoured then Fainu is more likely to get the opportunity over Sullivan to partner him. once Luai retires/moves on then Fainu will move to 7 with Onitoni Large to play 6. not terrible succession planning if it all comes to fruition.

Sullivan also has a 4 year contract.I assume the players who perform the best will get their spots.

My personal opinion is Fainu is the better option but it's probably more hope than informed opinion.

all signs point to a shootout in preseason 2025, with the winner partnering Luai if he comes and the other either on the bench or in Cup. having genuine depth and competition for spots in the halves would be a welcome change.

If it falls through, and the media make a big deal out of it, no point getting upset. Questions should be asked as to why we make it so far through negotiations with these players, only for them to fall through at the last minute. It’s been the same fundamental flaw with every one of these potential signings. If this is different, it might be a sign that the tide is finally turning. If not, the club should be transparent and let us know why.

The versatility of Sullivan, Fainu, Large and Galvin also bode well for the succession plan. Unlike someone like Adam Reynolds for example, who's an out and out halfback, all four of those guys are (or will be) capable of playing multiple positions in the 17 if their development and form warrants it over the next few years.

It's exciting.

0% chance we get both of them. It’s good to dream, but don‘t get carried away. We’ll be flat out getting one of them.
Buck up lil’ camper. Mathematically there’s more than 0% chance but pessimistically well, I leave that up to you,
But I think your glass needs topping up.

Luai might be worth 500k more than Brooks. But Brooks is worth about 650-700, not the million he got in his final year here. So Luai at 1.5mil is not a bargain and will only hamstring the club for the next few years if he were on that.
Yeah I know 1.5 is to much, but I’d rather be hamstrung with a 1.5m Luai contract than a 1m brooks contract???

It’s not pessimism

I think it is. There are plenty of positives to our team. The issue is how well we perform on the park but if you look at our pack and some of the kids we have available to us things there are definitely positives.

The problem is for years there have been positives but we don't deliver. It can change though. I wouldn't recommend getting too up but I'm definitely not too up.

We have plenty of quality players in our team and plenty of good kids coming through. Api, IP, Klemmer. Stef, Pole, Bateman, Bula, To'a, Staines, Fainu's, Galvin, Da Silva, Laulilii boys, Faagutu and probably more.

Let's see how they go.

None of that has anything to do with what I said. It was in reference to Buttface calling me for saying that we won’t sign both Luai and AFB. That isn’t pessimism. It’s realistic imo.

And FTR Earl, I’ve never talked down any of the young kids coming through. Only thing I will say is give them a chance to debut and prove themselves before talking them up. I think we have a few bums in our squad, but overall it’s solid and should be a lot higher on the ladder. But because we are run by lunatics, it hampers our results. I don’t think that is an unreasonable point of view

Has there ever been a time where a potential signing for the Tigers was “weighing up a decision” publicly (well, in the media) and then they eventually signed? I don’t see the Luai deal happening, as much as it sounds like it might.

I don't think it's unreasonable either but I don't think the board or management have that much affect on the players. I think if we had a good squad and a good coach they'd perform a lot better.

I think it’s a flow down affect. You don’t see too many successful clubs whose off field department is a shambles.

Jayden Sullivan?

I'm not excited. Nothing counts until it's official. I do think we'll get him though.
I’m not that excited either. We’ve seen this all before with Mitchell who was reported as being all but over the line to sign with us.

I’m fairly certain the Dogs will swoop in at the last minute. They have money, they really do need a 7 and I just reckon the lure of teaming up with Ciraldo, Gould, Crichton, Kikau and Burton again will be a huge sway. A bigger sway than Api, Staines, Naden and Benji that’s for sure. Either that or Penrith will come to the party with a better offer and he will stay there.

Hope I’m wrong but history is on my side. We’ve just been used as a bargaining chip by elite players for so many years now.

The more i read about the contract offered to Luai is well over what he is actually worth he most definitely
not a $1 million player. more in the region of $850,000 and not over that figure either.
Personally think he is a solid first grader but nothing really stands out about him or his game.
