Tigers need to put a 24th December deadline on this. Take it or leave it
Yes. You're so right. Deadlines during contract negotiations have definitely produced positive outcomes for the club in the past. Perhaps we should also insist on a heads of agreement?

Who does that Luai punk think he is anyway? Imagine thinking it's ok to take more than 2 weeks to decide the biggest contract of his career? The Brydens Lawyers Wests Tigers don't play those games!

Right now (December 5) we are almost certainly in that '10 day period' after a player has accepted an offer. Ruling out Dogs, this makes me confident Jarome has signed and accepted our offer as December 8 (due back to training) was the day he planned to have his decision finalised. Penrith's recent offer of an extra year is just optics for the fans. I have a feeling we've already offered the 1.2 million Jarome asked for
Even if Penrith offered him 900k x 3 years ($2.7m) we've offered him $1.2m x 4 years($4.8m) Effectively,his final Year with us is worth $2.1m to Luai. No NRL player is knocking back $2.1 for 1 season.

Better than dragging on and being led down the garden path to no where. Use the money to go after someone elee

I believe the Panthers are playing the salary cap to the law, I can’t see why Crichton, Kikau or Burton would have left if as some are alluding that there are brown paper bags in there contacts.
I’m sure if this was the roosters all those players would have all been retained and of course they would still be under the cap. 😂

I would guess he would say playing with long established mates or proving he can win outside the Penrith system are the two motivators.
Could be a similar situation to the NBA e.g.
- Kobe wanted to prove that he can win without Shaq;
- one of the reasons KD left GSW, was to prove that he can win without Stef, Klay and Dray;
- Stef, Klay and Dray wanted to prove they can win without KD.

For those thinking we're already in a 10 day contract acceptance period, note the Penrith CEO said he was happy for negotiations to take as long as they need to, into next year even, and that Panthers hadn't put any time frames to Luai that they want him to make a decision by.
Of course if Luai had accepted an offer then its him, not Panthers, putting this 10 day period into motion. But would he be saying that they're happy for negotiations to drag into the new year if he knew a deadline was already in place? I'm not so sure.... One hell of a smokescreen deflection if it is though

Michael Jordan was also one of, if not the best player in the game. His performances did all the talking and branding.
I am not talking quality of player here, my original reply was to someone saying no body did it 20 years ago.

If we are moving the goalposts here and saying he does not count as he was successful, then just lmk where you draw the line and I will find someone who was unsuccessful and still tried to do it.

My whole point was that 20 years ago this was happening too and that this isn't a generational thing.

The point is the sponsors came to him without all the hype out of Mike himself.

There was barely any social media 20 years ago. These days every man and his dog wants to share every thought that pops into their brain with thousands of random people. For those of us that weren't really brought up on that, it's seen as a bit obnoxious.

There were definitely hypers like Muhammad Ali, but they didn't have a personal 24 hour platform to utter every thought to whoever would listen.

Yeah, the only way to force the hand is to let a player know that we only have $x of cap space and that we have some other signing options on the radar e.g. AFB.
