Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Penrith are confident we are confident comes down to two things love or money, if its about money and being the main man we should get him. If its about the love of the Panthers mateship, winning he'll stay for unders.
Imo its most likely he stays a Panther especially if they come up with a bit of extra cash down the back of the couch and the extra year.
But the money would be tempting a couple of hundred grand a yr extra plus a 4th year and then still young enough for one final contract at the end. Plenty for him to think about i guess, i guess my doubts come from our recent track record of pulling off the marquee signing.

Or he wants to stay in a competitive environment that's winning premierships, a playing group with an excellent culture & a front office that actually knows what they're doing? Let's be real we don't really have much going for us other then offering him the most money.
We're offering him the chance to be a marque and to help him achieve something new. To bring a club up from the ashes. For the right competitor, that will be seen as a greater challenge, rather than doing what he's already done at Penrith.

I'm thinking the confidence from the panthers could be just for narrative purposes to make luai look worse if he leaves.

The media were starting to call out that the offer wasn't there. Now they've turned that around to read that they are putting their best foot forward.

If it's pure narrative. Hats off to them. Very clever.

If luai doesn't want to come to the Tigers, then it says a lot about him. Hes happy to live in the cleary shadow for his career rather than taking that step up.

Lol live in the shadow of Cleary.

Imagine being the mother of his kids and
hearing him say he's going to forgo 1.2m
just so he could stay at a club & play with
his mates haha. Take the bag 2 the bank!

If you break it down I doubt overall he will be forgoing alot of cash.

Players have their base salary which is being discussed and then get paid for finals/winning/rep games. At the Panthers he might actually make more staying & winning than playing for us.

I think that could be a massive selling point, being the man to bring the tigers back as a finals team, could you imagine the plaudits that player receives, would go down in history and would become an automatic club legend.... yes plenty of pressure on the shoulders, but would be better then taking the easy road and going to someone like souffs who are there or there about, always close to being top 8...

The cost to Luai would be about $180K after tax - nothing to sneeze at but being 4-6 premiership player will get you some endorsement to make up the difference. Plus he's need a new cabinet for the premiership rings he won't get with us.

Totally agree, never could understand why he would come here. This is just typical negotiation tactics being used by Luai to get a longer contract with the Panthers. He would also be looked after by the Panthers once his career finishes which will cancel out what the Tigers would've offered him. Money ain't everything, if someone offered you a job at a shithouse working environment compared to a primo gig you already have for less money but other perks that we won't know about, lots of people would stay with the primo company.

For four years. That's three-quarters of a million dollars....

....in the hand.

Being 'the guy' at Wests' also has the potential to increase his standing in the game.
