Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Agreed, and also... WHY did the Cowboys sign Luciano for overs?
It was always a weird decision. They had a heap of local juniors and Brisvegas players that they could have lured up north. I bet you they are now regretting the high commitment.

Todd Payten is watching the Tigers and will bid on any of our talent.
The had serious strike issues the year before if memory serves me, granted under Paul Green (rest his soul).
I mean you hope for the Nanai ,Luki , Deardon , Drinkwater types to either emerge or take a leap , but as is our last 13 odd years , it’s far from a sure thing . At his worst Luciano can create second phase , and bend the line . So it made sense at the start of that year . Then thier kids emerged , and drinkwater and Deardon finally showed what the hype was about coming through the juniors , and now Luciano is surplus to need . But he wasn’t at the start of that year . The cowboys were tipped for the spoon .

A source within rugby league circles has just told me Jarome is 90% likely to sign with us in the next week or so on a 4.8 million dollar deal for 4 years. He also told me we are about 30% likely to get AFB and Dogs are throwing around 1.1 million at him while we are offering between 900K and 1 million
Thanks RG

I think a club spending 1.1mil is better spent on a Half than a Prop.

I wish this was locked in soon.

He sounds like a mathematician majoring in probabilities.
Thanks for what you hear though. 👍🏻

Further development. Luai was in Brisbane on the weekend and met with Dolphins head of recruitment Peter O'Sullivan. No offer was made but certainly interesting given their halves are currently Katoa (formerly Penrith), O'Sullivan (formerly Penrith), Nikorima, and Milford. A further indication they have missed out on Ezra Mam who is set to resign with Broncos before Christmas

Thanks RG

Initial reports that we made an offer are true although I think what happened is the negotiations stalled, no rejection or acceptance yet. Perhaps he's looking at his options to drive his price up more. My understanding is that Penrith are unwilling to increase their offer of 3 years 850K

The most overhyped player I’ve seen talked up in a long time.

Just shows how desperate we were tbh.
Credit for trying something different but he was the wrong player to try.
People say body frames are meh, yes at times they can be provided the player has some x factor that can make up for it. Gildart had neither.

We have a flurry of cash to spend.
Getting both would be huge for us.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we offer a 5th year option to get Luai across the line which would get him to 32.

AFB for me is about when. If it is within next 12mths then 3-4yr deal works. If its in 24mths then no longer than a 3yr deal for mind.

Phins want Dearden and might even get him….

you still 90% confident Luai ends up at WT?

This screams of anyone else but the WTs...

It sounds like due diligence to me.

No one is racing to sign with us, but if he is going to leave a team that he's won 3 rings at, he is definitely best advised to explore all of the options that present themselves.

I still think for a guy with an ego like Jarome Luai, the allure of creating a legacy of changing the fortunes of the worst club in the competition would be very appealing.

He still has friends at the club, he will still be close enough to family and business partners/interests. I think we're a good proposition for him and we've shown a willingness to recruit aggressively to change our trajectory.

For all the schtick we cop historically, I think we present a very different proposition now.

Even if it's not Jarome Luai, the tides are definitely changing. Sentiment is way more positive.

The same thing happened with the Fainu brothers... last minute interest by Phins, Titans, Doggies and Drags and we were able to still get them across the line. Hopefully goes well ahain for us 🫰
agree. Luai would be stupid not to get a valuation off other clubs as to what they're willing to pay him to use as leverage against us and Penrith. that's clearly what's been happening these past few weeks with his meeting @ Canterbury and now Redcliffe.

I do think though that no one will be offering him the same salary as us and the chance to play halfback. seems very similar to the Fainu situation.

Not me but my source who is in the know-how of clubs, referees and some popular journos. I just hope this doesn't drag on into January if Luai is tempted by another clubs' late offer. While it is very likely he gets it sorted before Christmas don't rule out a club like Sharks or Roosters who could both contend for a title coming in with a 900K-1 million offer

So are we to assume he hasnt indicated acceptance of our offer to Penrith, so 10 day thing still to happen ?
