Justin Olam #281

Maybe the club is playing hardball to get the best possible deal with Melbourne chipping in. They are the ones who desperately need to beef up their middle and want Olam gone. At least with Richo in charge we wont get walked over!

Def feel this is the case.

Melb need the backrower, more then we need the centre.

I know motorcycle SPEEDWAY racing is very different from League, but 4 times world champ legend Greg Hancock from the USA 'retired at age 49', not because he was too old to keep racing competitively, he wanted to spend more time with his family.
Yeah herbie was a legend

For the millionth time , Shaun blore is no longer a back rower . His edge defence was not good last year . He replaced Bateman , and it was no coincidence that once ice moved to the other edge , it was party time for most attacks .
Unless he forces his lateral movement , which is pretty hard to do , then he will be in the middle . I can see him at 13 for the storm . That’s far more of an issue for them . We have a million 13s.
If the club doesn’t see him as an edge player , than he is most definitely lower down our food chain . Great dude . But injury prone and no longer an edge player . Which means he’s just a body filling in a position that he shouldn’t be in our top 30 . We get Olam , and now we are looking at better options for the edges . Because he’s a good footy player if he’s defending in the middle . He’s reserve grade if he’s on an edge .

Hopefully some of the younger blokes reach their potential this year. I'm expecting breakout seasons from T'oa, Fainu, even Tupou before he leaves. I know it's popular opinion in here to rag on our backs but I think they are yet to be given an opportunity. Let's see how Sezer gets things moving.
good post. with the amount of halves combinations we had last year (six by my count), our outside backs had no chance. when they had stability, you saw To'a and Tupou play good footy. both of them possess the talent to become some of the best players in their position, the issue is doing it consistently.

I think Starford will definitely breakout this year. Marshall will be drumming it into him that he needs to produce his best week to week, plus he will have Bateman and Sezer (or Sullivan) next to him for the entire preseason and season.

Tupou's a bit trickier as we don't know who is going to partner him on the left edge at this point. I'm hopeful he'll improve defensively and in the air, and will benefit from last year's experiences. he possesses so much attacking upside that I expect to see it improve with another preseason and more time in grade. if he can bulk up a bit he will be devastating on the early plays coming out of trouble.
