Luke Brooks #167

not too well as it is manly after all
tedesco thrived amongst better players
Moses thrived amongst better players
Brooks will thrive too

The only bloke who went backwards in form since leaving was Woods
Even Madge has left us and gone to kiwi coach now origin

Tedesco didn't thrive with better players IMO. He stayed the same, mayne even went backwards in ball playing at the Roosters. It's just that his team won more, so the myth grew that Tedesco became better at the Roosters. IMO he was a better player at the Tigers.

In a long time watching footy I have thought Tedesco was the most consistent player I have ever seen. In terms of both effort and impact on games. The difference between his good and bad games has always been so small- he rarely has a quiet or poor game. This last year his impact dipped a bit but not his effort. Underrated player full stop.

I wouldn't call him underrated. I think everyone rates him very highly, I know I do. Unbelievable player in ability and effort. Such a loss losing him. I just think it's incorrect when people say he went to another level at the Roosters. He was just as good with us. You could argue he was better because of what he was doing with worse players. Also, he had a great ability to tip the ball on to the winger for many try assists and that skill seemed to slowly fade after leaving us which baffles me.

I thought his first season with chooks was ordinary by his standards but put that down to Minni reshaping him to fit the teams needs.
Back to his little mate though... it has already started.

There’s an element who underrate him . The arguments for other fullbacks to take his NSW jersey were always there throughout his career. Silly stuff. I agree he was phenomenal at us and his game was elevated by better teammates at the Roosters. That was kind of my point, he’s always been Mr consistent.

I used to be filthy and still hate seeing Teddy and the Roosters win. Brooks gave an effort to WT and I know others disagree strongly but I wish him well at Manly.

It was never fully the fault of Luke that he couldnt get his act together on the field and lead us.
He didnt have it in him. Square peg/round hole. Those that insisted he could do it are equally responsible.
At Manly he will have an excellent half beside him who is a leader and another member of the spine who is inspirational and can win games on his own back. The pressure valve will be released somewhat and I think we'll see him have a very good year, pushing high up the Dally M table.

Benji wanted him - he wanted out. He was given every opportunity by all his coaches at this club was well rewarded financially for it just didn't have the players around him to be successful and perhaps was overrated by many in the first place.
I expect him to have great days at Manly and average ones too much like he did here - it will be the rest of the blokes around him that will be the key to whether he plays finals footy next year.

As a million dollar half back with great skill, I would dare say that he contributed to the club being relatively rudderless on the field.

He will thrive until DCE retires.

I don't think he was that bad and the real issue is does he make Manly first grade halves and how he goes. If he is as bad as heaps of punters state well then he doesn't make first grade.

I reckon he'll play first grade and go okay. He'll be better at Manly than Hastings has been at Newcastle.

I don't blame the club though. It'll just show that the team as a whole was so bad.

It's going to be great watching how he goes though. We can make this forum great again.
If this is their plan Manly are in trouble. DCE and Schuster in the halves and Brooks will be an expensive back up.

Teddy is up there with the best fullbacks in the game. There's Slater, then there is Mini, Teddy, etc. I don't think he's underrated, most people think he is a gun.

Has the perception of Brooksy changed ?
It’s odd that he is a walk up starter in the halves at Manly, but can’t make a go of it at the mighty Tigers who have been consistently poor since the merger, in creating a cultural identity throughout the NRL. Apart from a handful, the 3 types of people which make up the NRL are those who have been approached, hired, and sacked by Tigers. Some hired and sacked in the same year.
Im hoping Richo and Benji don’t give up on us, not that I think they’re quitters, quite the opposite, but lurking in the shadows are controlling masters who rate power over success.

Brooks consistently led teams to where they were predicted to finish by experts. Near the bottom. Early in his career he probably over achieved which set him up for extreme criticism. He’ll likely help Manly run mid table, as expected.

Or he might have a big season with new surroundings.
I’m not really sure but it’s going to be interesting to watch, from a different perspective.
Same applies to Wighton !

Yeah one of the great debuts from memory.

It's all good man, we all have our opinions on
him. Some of the shit that was said about him
was real nasty stuff. Looking forward to 2024!
I’ve bagged his in-game decision making myself many times but I’ll never apportion significant blame to the bloke for our lengthy period of misery as fans. The true creators of that are now gone and we’ve seen in 2 months what a good operator in the front office can achieve.

Until we are actually predicted to make a climb up the ladder (id suggest 2025 if we can further improve in the backline) I’d suggest we go easy on all our playmakers, 2024 will be a learning year.
