2024 Pre-Season

Haven't heard what was said, nor do I know a whole lot about the situation. It sounds as though Volkman signed a contract with the Dragons but the contract was not registered.
I would have thought, registered or not, that contract would still be legally binding and Dragons would have to pay and rehab him.
I don’t understand how you can ‘officially’ announce a signing without registering a contract.

Off topic but there was no where else to speak it. Anybody get the drivel from Clint Newman and the RLPA about Volkman? Basically saying the NRL needs to do something about players in limbo.

Fact - Volkman's manager requested a release off a contract (Which the RLPA loves by the way), and signed a new deal with another club for a year (When he had two years on his contract). He has a season ending injury.

So the RPLA who look to the sky and shout that the players need more rights and more decision making are saying that a player manager(Who makes a.commision) and a player (Leaving his contract two years early) are in the right and that the NRLneeds to lift there game to accpmmodate the very policies the RLPA fought so hard for.

Fair dinkum, have you heard of a bigger hypocrite than Newton and the RLPA. Im sorry for the player but when you have managers circling amd the rules as they are eventually you will get bit.
Newton is a bottom feeder.

He signed a release with the Warriors prior to the Dragons contract being set in stone. Essentially, his release meant he had no contract at that stage.

He was subject to a medical at the Dragons. The Dragons promoted his signing before he had completed his medical. He went on to fail that and the contract never eventuated.

Normally, a player would only sign a release once the other contract was confirmed and paperwork is lodged for release first and new contract second within minutes of each other to protect from this exact situation.

His agent stuffed up it seems.

Team looks happy to be there which is very good , bit of fun while the camera is around with Klemmer teaching the young ones nicely , I feel my break out guy may be the new ex union player Benji grabbed not long ago , hope is is keen to go , Pole and Staines as well , Big Steph and I think if Klemmer plays a small amount better than last season he will be a gun for us , maybe a SOO. Bench spot as well

Pretty negligent from his manager. Feel for the poor guy.

Yeah the halves were odrinary 20m out. Had no idea what they were trying to achieve. The first few rounds Bateman was.the only one trying something..

All incare about is to stop that 40-50m over and end kick to the corner. Every time Brooks did that i was irritated. Who would coach that when you are dead last and have nothijg to lose? Play to score or mix the kicks up.
One area teams have really ‘improved’ in the six again era is goal line defense, and it’s hurt us badly.

Coaches have employed cunning spoiling tactics such as short drop outs to keep attack close to the line and giving away 6 agains on purpose to test the referees willingness to keep blowing the whistle.

I watched a game we lost against the Warriors at the SCG and they literally moved up before the ball was played every tackle in the red zone and only a few penalties were blown late in the match. Too late.

Benji and our new halves will need to find a way around these coaching ploys and without a real x-factor backline player / expert at breaking down the defense.

I firmly believe we will still struggle to score tries because of this and ultimately it will lead to another long season. It would be good if the refs start pulling up teams who use these sorts of gamesmanship. Benji certainly knew how to unlock red zone defences as a player but I’m not so sure his methods are very coachable.

Unintentional Bias....
We're down the bottom of the ladder and generally crap, So we don't get the calls...
We don't get refereed the same....

We also have a problem (Long Standing) that we're not smart enough to play the refs...
And not good enough to push our luck, We either bounce up off tackles or lay there long enough to miss a birthday...
We're either behind the ref 2m or we're out by half a basketball court...

Been that way forever, Not enough mongrels in the side - Trying to play pretty instead of dirty.
And not a lot of smarts...

The boys are looking fitter and stronger than the myth Maguires time as coach,
Maybe. If Maguire's a myth, what would you call the players?
Let's see if they're prepared to aim up this season; if not for personal pride then at least to earn their pay.

Maybe. Possibly uncoachable or unwilling to be coached. Can't really coach desire. We've never developed a reputation for hard work or a willingness to embrace the grind when required.
In the NFL the Detroit Lions have embraced a culture called Grit this year and are now a fair chance to go to the superbowl. Everything about the team screams toughness. Their coach reminds me a bit of Madge but it seems his young players have bought in.

Def changes the prototype winger. Mayby we will see the Union guy move up the order given he would have the most experience in this area and is very tall himself
