Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The team needs big players that strike fear into the opposition.

Klem needs a partner up fronts, Hope Stefano finds his agro....

Players we need improvement from to start moving up the table:
Dream, improve attack
Centre, Toa needs to play like he is against the cowboys.
Steph, needs to be the leader and run over other teams.
Pole, run like he did against the Raiders and have impact off the bench.
Seyfarth and Twal need more!
Staines, have a break out year and finish of our plays and
Backrow, 2 x internationals, Papallai needs good ball and Bateman looks underdone again. But we need controlled aggression from him

I semi agree that a lot of these "improvements" are things we do have to focus on, and I think you are 100% right when it comes to your statements on Steph, Pole, Seyfarth & Twal. However, I think you have simplified it to the point of shifting the blame away from the team as a whole.

Bula: Attack will immediately improve now that we have a 6 who won't move like he is in cement and controlling 7. Sezer will be a dominant half who will organise and kick and keep everyone else accountable, and whoever is 6 will at the very least offer a fair bit of attacking threat. Api is also sneaky and knows how to break down a team, so having halves that he wont have to baby as much will allow him to use his deception more effectively. Even Olam frees up Jahream as he is the kind of player that leaves the opposition defence anxious(I don't care how anyone feels about Olam, he puts 10x more fear into a team than Tommy Talau or AJ Kepaoa). All of this will mean Jahream will have more time and space in attack than he did last year.

Centre: Toa, I agree he definitely needs to improve but I wouldn't say Wakeham used Toa as well as he should have. I also believe he played pretty banged up towards the end of the year as we pretty much had no one left depth wise. Whenever he got good ball he was on fire, but I think the problem last year is we were pretty much forcing the pass on every play. The games we played simple and he got early ball he looked best on field. Olam as the other centre over AJ or Tommy should again, speak for itself.

Staines: If he is outside of Olam then I think it could be a really good combo, he was our best support player by a mile when he was fit at the start of last year. I really think Olam could help Charlie have the breakout year that he needs. If he is outside Toa and Bateman I'm a bit worried as they tend to cut back infield to look for support which renders Charlie pretty useless. Put Lobb or Tupou on that side to try and add a different dimension to the team with their ability in air.

Backrow: I honestly can't say them not getting good ball is their fault, I will wait for this year to judge. Brooks has never been consistent when it comes to using his second rowers and again Wakeham wasn't someone throwing pearlers every play. The ball was consistently going behind our players and hitting the floor, no one ever looked organised and at the end of the day that is a halves problem. The coach may have dumb philosophies or approaches to the game, but you should at least know how to execute those dumb approaches. Hopefully Sezer can help address this, I think his main role this year will be to keep everyone accountable and doing their jobs.

Sandon Smith is the other one they will give a go in the halves, but with Manu potentially leaving there are certainly some holes in that back line after this season.
Teddy and Tupou are both a year older, Sualii goes to union, plus Manu, they will be looking for established outside backs. They are stacked in the backrow for the next few years, I don't think Galvin is really what they need.
hahahah.
Don't look here guys. Established outside backs is one thing we really don't have. Maybe we have 1 with Olam, I am really hopeful but want to see his on field performance.

Asitasi James looked like he was quite fit for a big man ?
I still don’t know why we didn’t keep him, big, strong, aggressive, hard running props are very valuable, let’s hope the likes of Josh Finau and Nick Lui-Toso prove to be capable replacements.
Young Jordan Miller who is top 30 contracted to us looks to need a lot of work fitness wise and needs a lot of work with his lateral movement when defending. I can understand why the club put him on a top 30 contract based on his size, destructive ball running and potential, let’s hope he puts in the hard work to repay the faith,
I think this is a "how are they at training" kinda deal.

We were all surprised when the roosters released Ryan Matterson. On field he was actually really good for us, winning 1 game off his own energy and pushing a few more.

Off field, Man that guy gives Gen Z's work ethic a bad rep and that takes effort.

We have gotten the "which one to keep" wrong before, in punting Fifita for Groat... I reckon the trainers would know better or at least be able to flag a behind the scenes looser.

The Roosters are losing Manu, Sua’ali‘i and potentially Crichton to Rugby. Yet you watch heads explode about the sombrero when they have the temerity to go onto the open market.

Easily our best in 2021,and shld be encouraged by Billy Smiths return to the Roosters from his 3rd acl
But Smith came back fully firing...Douhi looked hesitant and avoiding contact last year
It's a wait and see whether he brings his 21 form and attitude
If he does,he's still a candidate for 6 ,or 3 in 25
But he will need to show something....and if he does, his old club at Redfern cld be looking for 2 new halves at year end if things don't go great
Tell him he's dreaming son. 😉

Please AD pushing off:
Sullivan
Fainu
Galvin

Heck I don't see AD being ahead of Sezer at the moment.

Or were you thinking tackleless would go in the Centers, the position he hated and shirked?
If i were AD's manager, I would be hunting him a spot overseas ASAP.
There ain't no home for you here

Panthers also
Ill add a couple more. 2017/2020 Melbourne Storm & 2018 / 19 Roosters(Latrell and Joey Manu were 20 & 21).

If you break it down every premiership winning team in the last 7 years has had more inexperienced outside backs in their team than experienced.

Edit: I couldn't be bothered thinking further but I just remembered that Sharks also won in 2016 with the backline of Feki / Bird / Leutele / Holmes (139 NRL Games total experience before the start of 2016 season). Olam has 104 NRL Games which is 75% of their entire total.

2015 Cowboys had a more rounded backline in terms of experience, however the grand final winning try from Feldt was his 22nd NRL game

You don't need experienced outside backs to be successful
You know, fair point.
The teams you cite
Panthers (at least their first time)
Broncos
etc. Did the job.

I note that they were high quality backs. I.e. Brian Too, Latrell, etc. Yes, not necessarily experienced.

We though have been really lacking for a long while in good quality backs. I truly hope Olam lifts us in that area. We will see in 2024 as our forwards stay the same, halves become brand new and backline matures. ... Lets see.

We were talking about his defence and you said halves don't need to defend.

Nice Segway.
Yes, I don't believe halves have to be world class defenders. Certainly helps if they are, but as I've said already their job is to create points. The aim of the game for 125 years is to score more points than the other side and the halfback is instrumental to that. We had no halves last year that could create points. We let go of the only halfback that was capable of that and he took his team to semis footy last year.

I'm perfectly fine with all our halves from last year being moved on. Brooks was probably the better defender out of them all but couldn't do the most important part of his job right. Doueihi can't do either, he can go too.

And I don't own a Segway, only goofs and hipsters ride those. I think the word you're searching for is "segue." If you're going to be a condescending wanker it probably helps if you use the King's English so as to avoid looking foolish xo.
