Season 2024 - Round 2 Team

Nope not in the NRL side. Apparently he did in the cup side - they got hammered.
So much for our fantastic kids that our coming through, pick the best 4-5 and forget the rest , untill we start been competitive, we would be better of buying seasoned pros that won’t cost a fortune

I’m sure we have a few good young players with potential (TDS and Galvin for instance), but so does every other club. Many seem to get carried away, as if we have a glut of future NRL immortals that are going to come through and save us, dragging us back up to the top of the table in the next few years.
When i watch the lower grades and our junior teams we are often getting pumped and i can’t see us as anything special.

He looked better without Sezer.

Organizing half is his best position, he isn’t a 2nd receiver restrictive wider half.

I could see his value if he straightens up to the line with his step/speed threat more around middle forwards as it would cause forwards to jam in onto him and space wider if we setup for it. Papa, Bula and others would eat it up.

He looked better without Sezer.
His second stint was a lot better and it was resultant of a few factors, not least of which was that Simpkin had the forwards rolling and got quick early ball to the halves.

Api tried too hard. I think he had his worst game in our colours on Saturday.
We are not the Panthers. We are years away from being able to replicate them. He has to adjust his gameplay to suit the talent level of what he is surrounded by. At this stage, no one backs up his scoots, therefore him doing them so often affects the setups we have created and takes him out of the next play. He is trying to play at a level that the young blokes can’t keep up with. I’d like to see him apply the KISS model this year, but get it perfect.

Thoughts on Lobb starting over Tupou. Tupou has been poor under the highball, interesting in defence, horrible ball handling and offers next to nothing. He is gone next season so why don't we nurtured some future talent instead of wasting our time on Tupou.
Thoughts?

I would start Lobb. Reckon he has earned it....and he is a handy kicker (if we can score tries).

Agreed. Tupou doesn’t get involved enough. He just waits for the ball to come to him.
Lobb is currently a worse option but he can be brought up to speed quickly and is an attacking aerial threat.

It’s all going to take a little time to work itself out. Players like Latu and Lobb need some time in cup to build their games in A and D. They will come into their own when the time is right for them.
Week 2 we’ll be starting with the first 17 from the last trial apart from Bateman. Personally I’d like to see Pole play 13 and Galvin 14 but not sure that Benji will leave out Seyfarth or Simpkin.

Aidan Sezer
Fonua Pole
Isaiah Papali’i
John Bateman

I think Starford To’a is too lazy in defence and needs to go back and work harder on that & he seems to always be tired.
I would put Junior Tupou in the centres, where I believe is his best position and put Solomon Alaimalo on the wing.
He just seems to be a natural athlete who is tall and fast and will do well on the wing. The other changes I would make is Fonua Pole at number 13 to replace Alex Seyfarth and bring Justin Matamua on to the bench.

Doubt we see Matamua. Apparently he has been given permission to look for a new team.

I would be going with
6. Galvin
7. Sullivan

Sezer has been brought in as the tradesman like 7, however if your going to have a tradesman 7 he needs to kick well, pass well, take right options and play straight. If he fails at one of those then your better off going for the younger and more talented player in Sullivan. IMO Sezer has been going too sideways, and when you have a 7 like him going sideways it destroys our attack and poses zero threat.
