Lachlan Galvin #277

Can’t believe what I’m reading.

Bud our new recruit 7 should be dropped because of a performance in a trial, for a kid who hasn’t even played a game of NSW Cup?

As a 7 coming into a whole new team it’s hard to adjust and takes time to settle in. Let the kid have a couple of games in NRL and time to adapt to the squad before making a judgement call. Especially a player like Bud who plays off confidence, dropping him after a trial would do a lot more damage than good.

I’m all for Galvin - I think he’ll be a star and didn’t look out of place in the trial whatsoever which is impressive. However, it’s a trial the intensity is significantly different and it’s also important to take into account he hasn’t even played a single minute of NSW Cup yet.

Give Galvin 1-2 months in cup and give Bud 1-2 months in the FG squad. Then we can assess from that point and see what’s best for the team moving forward.

If this is our reaction to a trial I think I know who the new Brooks may be….
Either way, I am happy with the process. Galvin will be in grade this year.

If it was up to me - round 2 should be and quite frankly needs to be:

6. Sullivan
7. Seizer

14. Latu Fainu (if he isn’t eligible til Rd 3 then Simpkin based off the trials deserves a crack)

People hyping about Galvin I’m definitely with you he’s a supreme talent and I’m not saying he shouldn’t have a spot - if anything I actually hope by the end of the year he’s a regular first grader.

However, I also think Latu Fainu is the better player….. people will be shocked how good he is I reckon.

Kepoa I don’t think deserves a spot at all…..
IMHO, TDS should be 14 if he is not injured.

Whilst I agree - the million dollar question is where?

Especially with Luai coming next year, interesting times ahead to say the least....
I think either Latu Fainu or Galvin will develop into our long-term lock and the other 5/8.

From what I have seen of Latu in NSW Cup & short time in the Test, his defence is one of his assets. He has great technique both front-on & in cover.

Whereas Galvin will need more time in the gym to prepare his body for the rigours of the middle but could really add something for us in this role.

Dogs are trying to turn Olaputo into a 13. Fainu is pretty similar to Olaputo…. However, Galvin’s height/frame could make him a good edge or 13 option with his ball playing abilities too.

Both liable options.

As long as all 3 of Luai, Galvin and Fainu have spots in the starting 13 in 2025. I’m happy.

Galvin 13 (Isaiah Yeo 2.0) Latu & Luai In the halves
Api/TDS hooking, Bula out the back *chefs kiss*

I think we will see Galvin at some point after his performance in the trials but I certainly wouldn't be blooding him if the team is getting smashed. There is no value in that for him or the team. Haven't seen anything to suggest we are going to be any better this season to date but also too early to confidently fully write them off.

Why would we want to play Galvin at 13? So he can defend in the middle abd get targeted by every team. 5/8 or Centre for now and let his body develop
I was a big advocate for Galvin at 13 - however my fellow poster @jrtiger swayed me a little.

I think Galvin is more suited as an edge rower the more I think about it. Keeping him away from the middle and allows him to play to his strengths and utilise his ball playing skills out wide which can create more opportunities.

Similar to Luke Lewis/Wade Graham etc

As a centre on other side - I think that’d be a big mistake.

Definitely the plan this year.. Just thinking forward
about how we accommodate them all longer term

Agree. I want all 3 in the team mixed with Bula out the back geez that’s a threatening combo app over the park.

Galvin size makes it interesting, I think as his frame moulds out backrow could be his spot more than lock effect wise. Must admit have never thought about Latu playing lock - might be something to it tbh.

I mentioned this in another thread but I think the best way forward is Galvin at 13 and Fainu at 6.

From what I've seen Galvin is a very smart player who relies on strength rather than speed for his running game. I can see that translating well and becoming a lot like Yeo.

Fainu is a bit quicker and has a really strong passing game. Needs to work on his general play kicking.

Both will be big boys though and I hope we have a set plan for both of them. I don't want to see them moved around.

Pole, Bula, Galvin all kids thrown in seem to be a class above and prepared. This is very un tiger like. For the damage past admin have done somethings different about these kids coming through.

Sullivan isn't playing 7 though, he is playing 6. He is a better 7, more on the ball and roving around the ruck rather then on an edge as a 6.

I would drop Sezer for Galvin and move Sullivan to 7.

With our limited attack, I do t think we can afford a halve who is no running threat.
Unfortunately Sezer’s days as a running halve are well behind him.
I’d start with Sullivan 7 and Fainu 6, Galvin on the bench to cover multiple positions and inject some additional attack at stages of the game if required.

Give Galvin the time to grow as a player and physically and he will surprise a lot of people how good he
can be. While Galvin is not a fast twitch type he will make it up in his ability to read the field and his all round game is very well placed.

legend mate.

he will be brilliant wherever he ends up, but I do think he is destined to be an elite ballplaying backrower. Isaac Moses might have something to say about that tho.
