Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

That would be a massive insult to the members and other players on the roster.
He has to earn an extension and prove his body is strong enough not to fall to pieces the second he gets on field. We simply cannot continue to hand out contracts to players that haven't earned it.
That's how we filled our squad with bludgers like Toa, Naden etc.
If someone plays consistently well then that's one thing. Douieihi could miss 10 tackles in his first game back and look miles off the pace, we'd look pretty solid offering him a contract then. With only 2 spots left We simply don't have the space to accommodate him currently. If we offloaded 4-5 players then there might be room for him, if he earns a minimum wage deal
I personally think it's a pretty decent negotiating tactic. We are lowballing him at a time when he has very little negotiating capacity, and his only option is to come back to FG and play very well, for his future. So motivation for AD is very high and a min-wage 1-year deal is very low risk for us.

I don't think it's fair to compare Doueihi to Naden or Toa, as he's shown far more ability and versatility than either of those guys, and he's a Tigers junior. As long as AD stays fit he's certainly worth more than minimum wage.

I don't disagree but once (if) Galvin and Stef are upgraded it doesn't leave room for any notable recruits. Even if the likes of Naden are cut we can only replace him with someone of equal salary (or less as we likely need to pay part of his salary).
Less $$$$ than Naden but faster, stronger, younger with an upside. They are out there, look at the speed of the Dolphins backline compared to ours.
Naden has plateaued and will not get better.

I watch Galvin create space but the blokes outside him are too slow upstairs to work out what's going on and run into the gap. It's only a matter of time until frustration sets in for young Galvin and his game starts to suffer.

Don’t worry … our abundance of juniors are coming through the ranks and will be playing NRL shortly …another 2 years …3 at the most,,,

Just be patient

What if he does his knee again in his first game of NSW Cup?

Or misses 20 tackles as he can't move like he used to?

We have 2 spaces available in our 2025 roster currently. And no room for a positionless injury prone footballer. Train and trial is where he currently needs to fit, until he can PROVE that he's more valuable than that.

Our squad is too weak to keep carrying project players. More than half our top 30 are projects! We need NRL quality stars for our first team.

If we give AD a contract extension without him earning it then he is in exactly the same boat as Naden, Toa, Kepaoa.

I was talking to my old man while watching the game and we all shake our heads when our team stuff it up. I just said - footy is not all just muscle and brawn - they need footy IQ and unfortunately we don't have a lot of players that have excellent footy IQ.

Our squad on paper should be between 8th and 10th, four winnable games went begging. The problem is our game strategy.

Benji should have had at least 2-3 years as an assistant coach under an experienced head coach, rather than being thrown in the deep end.

Sheens' used-by date had already expired. Flanagan would have been the smart choice.
I think our squad is really bad. I don't see a squad in worse shape than us.

With the emergence of Galvin and the arrival of Luai and Taruva next year (with hopefully a few more) we may move near that range, but right now we have the worst squad in the league.

Even our talented players like Bula, Galvin, Stef and Papalii wouldn't be in the top 10 in their position. Our only real standout talent is Api. Our top 17 is full of cast offs from other teams and the squad is just nowhere near good enough, with almost no depth (hence Twal and Seyfarth seem automatic selections despite indifferent form).

I don't see which squad is weaker than ours.

I don’t see why Fa’agutu can’t transition into a prop and as for this year Fa’agutu and Laulilii are only taking development spots and by next year will both be ready to play a bench role if needed
Don't see them getting on to the bench, but taking up a top 30 spot.
Some tough decisions must be made and I see them as the casualties.

Will Doueihi take a lowball new contract offer? Maybe. Should Wests Tigers increase the offer? No. He's too big an injury risk. Let some other club take that risk

Cant read the article … the timing of this seems unusual .. wouldn’t they want to get a look at him first ? unless another club has made him an offer

I think you are overly negative about Doueihi for some reason.

2025 is not very far away. I assume the club has some decent idea of who might be available to buy between now and the next pre-season. I assume the club knows how much money they have left.

So you can put a minimum-wage offer to a nobody like Naden or Faataape, and I'm fine with that, but I think there is equal risk making that lowball offer to an injury-prone player with a much higher ceiling.

My comment was not a defence of Naden or to suggest he shouldn't be moved on if it's an option. Just to highlight how limited we currently are.
