well deserved win. sensational collective effort from the pack got us the win, plus some strong individual efforts from Feledy, Alaimalo and Curtis Wilson on debut.

was really impressed by Broederlow in his first time out in Cup. great contact defensively and made some excellent carries. I’m hopeful these next few weeks we put some decent halves next to him and we see him hit some gaps and bust some defensive lines.

Sione Fainu looked great today, he’ll push for NRL selection fairly soon. Jordan Miller is going to be a cult hero. he needs conditioning, but day’s like today show why there is so much upside with him. great try he scored as well. was easily Kit’s best game this year after a terrible start. some of the hitups he made thru the middle were sensational.

Parramatta, Blacktown and Souths these next few weeks, hoping the boys can grab a few more wins and continue on their development path.

The Western Suburbs Magpies have scored their second win of the NSW Cup season, defeating the Newcastle Knights 24-10 in Round 10 at Lidcombe Oval.

Match: Magpies v Knights
ROUND 10 - SUNDAY 12TH MAY

Leading 18-4 at half-time, Wests were not to be run down, producing arguably their best performance of the season to date.

The Magpies opened the scoring through Solomon Alaimalo, with the towering winger collecting a Noah Ryan cross-field bomb to score after 15 minutes.

Alex Lobb converted to make it 6-0 to Wests, before the Magpies went back-to-back. Powerful middle forward Sione Fainu crashed over to the left of the uprights to extend the home side’s early lead.

Newcastle scored their first points of the afternoon through Laitia Moceidreke, with the Fijian winger producing an acrobatic finish to score in the left corner.

In one of the highlights of the match, makeshift five-eighth Declan Casey then produced a no-look pass to a rampaging Jordan Miller, with the 19-year-old front rower grabbing his first try at NSW Cup level.

Miller’s try was converted by Lobb, with the scoreboard reading 18-4 to the Magpies at half-time.

The second half began with both sides going set-for-set, until a mix-up at the back from Newcastle led to Wests fullback Curtis Wilson grubbering the loose ball through to bag a try on his NSW Cup debut.

Alex Lobb’s penalty goal made it 24-4 with 12 minutes to go, with Knights fullback Will Pryce being sin-binned for dissent as the kick was being lined up.

Reuben Porter was also sent to the bin late for repeated infringements, and Jed Cartwright scored the visitors’ final try of the match with their one-man advantage.

I agree with the assessment of Jordy Miller. Has a massive ceiling but his only downfall is his lack of involvement on the defensive side of the ball. Need to be able to play both sides of the ball in NRL in my opinion. I was however surprised to see Faagutu only get the last 15mins of the game. Seems he was better off staying in Flegg

Good wrap up!

This week if Alaimalo & Faataape travel to Magic Round as part of the 19 which I suspect they will, we'll hopefully see Solo Saukuru make his NSW Cup debut (and possibly Nav Willett if Luke Laulilii doesn't play due to City U18 commitments).

Crazy how Vaihu keeps getting picked. Just give the mins to Sukkar, Faagutu or Tumeth.

It's still a pretty weak squad but at least there's two halves in the squad. They got a win last week but they're up against a far more experienced side this week.

With no Flegg this week i'd have hoped there was more juniors given a run in Cup this weekend.

Nick Tui-Luai has departed back to the Pride in Qld Cup.
I wonder if we will get a replacement player ?
I think the need to get minutes against men for guys like Miller, Laulili'i, Faagutu and Matamua has influenced the decision, as has Johannssen's emergence. there won't be a replacement there.

yeah I agree. Faagutu is on a top 30 deal next year and Vaihu is being favoured? I can't make sense of it. start Sukkar and bring Chris on the bench and push Sione to Flegg while he's still eligible. that checks out.

I expect 2 more changes to the side. Both NRL and Cup play Sunday. One in Brisbane one in North Sydney. You would think 18th and 19th man (TDS/Lobb) both travel with NRL team for the game just in case.

The Vaihu push is very strange. Always felt he was a decent centre with a good step...but down the rankings at the club and a long way away from NRL. Hopefully Fa'agutu gets a decent crack in Cup as the season goes on.

As much as I agree with this and a bit confusing at times as to why one of our Top 30s for next year is not playing cup regularly in Faagutu, imo it probably has to do with the lack of backrow depth we have atm. Both Sukkar & Faagutu are predominantly middles which is probably why they're going this route.

How does Chris Playing 15 mins at the end of a cup game really help his development? I highly doubt he's that unfit. The kids need to play. TDS playing less than 30 mins is also not optimal. Valevatu will never play first grade. We need our top 30 getting more game time.

I agree with you there regarding playing time for TDS & Faagutu. Both are highly touted juniors of ours and yet we seem to have them lost in the shuffle atm. I'm just trying to make sense of Vaihus constant selection week in week out

Agreed put them in flegg playing full games, then later in the year put them in KOE. Simples

I recall Vaihu having the rep of one of those players that trains super hard. Which is great, but ultimately if they cant deliver on field they still need to be selected accordingly.
