Isaiah Papali’i #265

Granted a release yesterday signed on with panthers at 8am the next day, penrith have obviously been negotiating with him for a while, things don't happen that quickly, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought they couldnt negotiate with him prior to November 1 due to the fact he was contracted in 2025 with us, this didn't just happen last night,, but NRL will approve whatever their pet club will do

How many pet clubs do they have? And why are you upset that a player who has done nothing for 18 months and didn’t even want to be here, is finally gone? Who cares how it happened.

Penrith is an interesting one, wonder if we could have got something out of it. They seem stacked for outside backs

I don't really see this as a positive. I have no doubt he'll dominate for Penrith and probably be in discussions for buy of the year next year.

It's all well and good to blame the players for not living up to the expectations, but it's a long list and sometimes you have to consider "maybe it's not them it's me". Sullivan, Bateman, Laurie, Peachey, Brooks, Talau, Liddle etc. all underperforming while they were here.

In fact, I think Sam Fainu is the first player to perform above expectations in years.

It all depends when Richo gave him the green light to negotiate.

I find this really disheartening. For a club that needs to build strength it always feels like one step forward two steps back, and is a poor reflection of where we are at in the eyes of a player who was considered one of our better signings assuming he wants out. Our retention is probably poorer than our recruitment.
I think this comes down to return from investment as opposed to overpaying for position or potential which has been more common in the past

The word is that he was granted permission like 3-4 weeks ago so all above board and like the move from the club. 750k and a spot freed up.

He would have been granted permission to negotiate a couple of weeks ago it’s only just come out in the public

The only issue I have with this…what message does it send to our up and comers….and other “marquee” potentials joining us….if a “star” player Wants out, doesn’t believe in the direction our club is going…they too will want to join a top 4 club…..forget about attracting another so called marquee player….

He’d be back to his best instantly if playing at the Panthers.
I don’t think he’s been bad for us to be honest, way more impact than Bateman.
If we are offloading Papali’i, keeping Bateman and not signing any decent replacement, we will simply get worse than we already are.
My opinion, he has been tackling his arse off, probably stuffed when we get the ball,, and maybe lost a yard or so.
I think he has put in the effort, but our halves have not provided the space, half gaps he needed.

That's the thing we don't know, all we know is he was granted a release yesterday...I still smell a rat
If you look at how he's played he started the season well and really looked like he was putting in. That makes me think it was happening then. He's dropped off noticeably in the last few games he's played, telling me that it was a done deal weeks ago.
