LIVE GAME Origin Game 1 Discussion

It's just a really really ugly tackle.

You are right though, it does look like Walsh looses his feet. I can see though Suaalii aims high and while Walsh is lower due to slipping its a pretty high shot.

Started bad, looks worse. Yes, this ruined the game. Madge's gameplan clearly was bash them and it backfired!
No idea what Madge game plan was but I had horrible memories of his time with us.. would love to say an. Origin team reminded me of the Tigers but it was pretty poor footy from the blues at times

Nice work Madge, you couldn't beat a good QLD side a man down. Useless Madge.

Sack the coach!!!
Nice one, it’s his crap selections that also led to the poor play throughout. Don’t get baffled by the send off, which may not have happened if suliasi was picked I his better position, winger!

The most entertaining part was watching the idiot's earnest speech at halftime complete with hand gestures for the cameras and watching the same glazed over expressions on faces he got when he tried to connect with our team.
It was priceless.

Some thoughts: Suaalii doesn't screw up like that in club matches. It looks like Madge was OTT in the build up intensity and young Suaalii took it too much to heart. That head high is on Madge.

Suaalii knocks Walsh's head off and gets 4 weeks. Klemmer does a borderline hip drop that did not result in injury and gets three weeks.

I am really growing to hate the NRL bosses and their lies, dodginess and unfairness.

Nicho is not a big game player, not yet anyway. Moses and Burton would pose much more threat in the halves.

Can't agree he has been sailing close to the wind with his contact for ages because I have noticed it. He often leads with the shoulder in defence. Walsh slipping in the tackle just resulted in the contact to the head and gave the ref little option.

Was there direct contact with the head? I know Walsh had a whiplash effect which looks to have contributed to his concussion but I didn’t see a replay where the shoulder hits the head. I might be wrong as I haven’t seen all angles.

It looked ugly but Walsh is slipping and if he doesn’t make head contact, I reckon Sua might challenge it.

The ugly truth is that Queensland were off their game last night, there were way too many mistakes, but up against a team that offered nothing in attack it wasn't a problem.
The game was dusted after 5 minutes.
All NSW had was "effort".
Whoopty doo!
You could put me out there and you'd get effort. They'd lose 30000 to nil but there'd be "effort" for Brandy Alexander to shoot his load over.

What surprised me (a little) where Andrew John's comments. If I heard correctly, he was saying a send off in club matches but not in origin? If this is factual, yet another measure of his bipartisan approach to commentating. Which is evident in most, if not all, of his commentary.

It's a really difficult one.

It was no doubt an unfortunate send off.

The reason people hated it is because there's such a build up around these games, and so much riding on them - that it completely ruins the game.

Regular round NRL games you can make up for them the next week and we move on.

Of course, it is what it is - but I would HATE to have a send off in the GF within the first 10 minutes of the game. Feels like a whole season ruined. Part and parcel, but yah, unfortunate I guess.

We were winning key stats. That shot from Liam
Martin & then Robson dislodging the ball the tackle
after should have been a turning point, we got the
ball back in their 40 down 20-10 with 10mins to go.
Our inspid attack & fascination with running plays
down Nicho's side all night gave me PTSD from the
Madge days like you said. We'll get em in Game 2!

Did Madge somehow manage to make Walsh lose his footing just before contact as well?

Thats quite an imagination.

Speaking of hip drops though....didnt QLD do a hip drop yet nothing came of it...not even a penalty>?

There is usually leeway given in these games compared to the way NRL is officiated.
(yet another emabrrasment for the NRL bu thats another story)
The first kick of the night from QLD down town and two blues contacted the kicker and put him on the deck, a big no-no these days in NRL yet let slide last night

Correct, the only way we looked like scoring was via a Kick. Bugs the hell out of me but WHY does it always look like QLD Run harder, Tackle harder then us WHY???
