Stefano Utoikamanu #241

Individually every player wants to play for a premiership team. Collectively they are the reason we are crap.
This is unfair. We have lost most games this year due to individuals stupidity (ahem Naden) and a backline that is famously bad. Not to mention the teenagers.

Stef has been huge in most games outside of a month where he was pretty quiet. Probably just sick of carrying everyone.

Nope. He’s been OK in a couple of games and done bugger all most weeks.
The pack have lost us most of our games this year.

Who thinks this contract on hold , going to the market is just a ploy to get us to bump up his contract ( via manager ) to simply get more funds for both of them , does anyone think Stef does want to stay but is letting his manager squeeze all the juice out OR does he want to see if another stronger club comes up with similar coin and moves on
No I don't think it's a ploy. I personally think he could go to the Dogs. They still have money to spend, they want to spend it on a forward, their backs are pretty good, they have depth through the grades, Ciraldo is showing he definitely is capable as a coach and Gus seems to stay quiet whenever there is chat about Stef. Make no mistake, in the next couple of years the Dogs will be in the thick of the top 4 competing for premierships and I think they would like their chances of moulding him into one of the games premier props.

I hate it, but why persist with a player who does not buy in to our future?
I want players wearing our jersey to have our passion, nothing less.
I’d say Richo is finding out there is very limited playing talent that can replace him and we will most likely need to pay way overs to even spark the interest of those who could replace him.

I reckon stef ends up at souths or Dogs
I heard south were chasing Hunt and it was pretty much done , Dogs and Gus could be the sneaky ones behind the scenes , Gus knows how to get around the system .
Stef at his age living in Sydney which is expensive to buy a home etc should take the $ 800 k over 5 years = $ 4 million less Some tax he supports his family , plays for the club he says wants to be a leader at and go out and enjoy footy , we will be way more competitive next year with Luai , he should be told we haven’t had a player like Luai in our halves for years , the amount of times we have held our own in the forward only to fail in the opposition 10 will be fixed Luai adds 10 points per game easy plus adding a centre with skill adds more points ,

So disappointing, but with those comments real weak character issues for mine. Not the character we really need to climb off the bottom. If he'd played to his potential nearly every game we'd be in a better position. Why not give the cub one more year with Luia coming, Richo making roster upgrades etc. He's still young to be hoping for finals. Spend the money on 2 experienced middle hard heads and we are better off.

The form of Royce Hunt has raised everybody’s eyebrows, he’s been by far the most destructive interchange forward in the NRL this season.
Yes it’s been reported he is very close to signing for Souths or the Bulldogs.
But neither of those clubs will pay him too much based on the fact he really only plays 30mins each week.
For us signing Royce Hunt would also no doubt give us a much better chance at retaining Stef as he would see the makings of a much more feared forward pack,

I suggest you watch more closely when the good teams play. See how their outside backs take pressure off their forwards, also how their points are scored.

Why does he need to be told JL is coming and is a good player ? Does he live in a bubble and doesn’t know who he is? Funny, he seemed to know all the other team no names that he is laughing and joking with after every game when they have just been lapped ..

After the Lachie Galvin fiasco - which I believe still has more to playout, I start to question how much the sincere and how much is manipulated by management.

Stefano has a very good offer from the Tigers but then says he wants to go to the market. He is in a no lose situation. He makes some provocative comments that stimulate interest from other clubs to create competition for his services and drive his price up.

Yet 3 months ago he comes and declares he wants to be a future leader at the Tigers? Please.
The irony is what would he be doing if not playing football?

I think " huge" is overstating his efforts, Bags. We know what he's capable of because he gives us a little glimpse now & then. Just doesn't produce consistently for some reason. He'll go OK at a top team where he can be carried.

I have thought about not reacting to Stef’s quotes.

However, I get sick of weak minded individuals coming to the club, talking about wanting to be part of revitalising the club and then within two or at most three seasons talking about how hard it is losing all the time and wanting out.

These tone deaf people never seem to acknowledge that they are one of the few who can directly influence and contribute to winning. They also never recognise that they carry a portion of the responsibility for the fact we keep losing.

Try supporting this club year on year for much longer than a playing contract and dealing with how painful not winning is.

Someone ask him the question, will either of those two sides have a better number 7 than us next season ?
It’s near certain the Panthers, Storm and Roosters are all desperately trying to sign him also.
The haves and the haves not. With the Panthers, we have taken a few of theirs and they do produce a lot of juniors so if they get one back that is part of league. The Storm and Roosters have a huge advantage in that they are not required to fund and organise junior leagues. They can simply poach talent as the Raiders did the other day with those U19s players.
