Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Chammas had some interesting news on 100% footy.

* Cotric to Catalans for 3 years
* Guler wants out of Canberra on compassionate grounds, he is from Sydney and could possibly be a good pickup for us
* Daniel Saifiti might get squeezed out of Newcastle due to cap pressure, I could see him being one the Dogs pickup
* Tupouniua not off to Dogs yet, no offer even on the table and closer to going to Dolphins than Dogs
Cotric was a one season wonder - much like Papali’i. Pathetic.

No to Cotric - massive nose dive ever since he originally left Canberra to the Dogs.

No to Guler - would prefer Royce Hunt or Xavier Wilson with that spot.

Big no to Safifit - lazy and error infested, also heard very bad things about his attitude off the field from people in the know. Not a good mentor let’s just say.

Yes to Tupounia - hopefully we make a late call to his management he’s a gun and could easily take Papalili’s spot moving forward.

Mason and Latu Fainu both very good number 14 options too.
I just think the compete at all costs and will to win that Sezer always demonstrates is so valuable that we need to find a way to fit him in and keep him for another season.
I think Galvin will have to earn the spot over Latu at the moment he is in front winning a no contest the competitor has not shown up yet but he will

Just like the Dragons did us favours by taking Musgrove and Liddle off our books, we seem to be doing the same for Melbourne with Olam and NAS who were both on long contracts on good coin.

I agree with Cotric and Saifiti.

Guler I rate but as a bench player. I would prefer Xavier / Oregon Kaufusi to grow into a starter if we could get one of them.

I think we need to stay away from Sitili, has had a poor run with injury and on good coin.

Someone made a good point in the forum about Latu Fainu to lock as a Victor Radley type lock just minus the inflictor part. They are the same height and weight and Latu is quite strong defensively and would no doubt be a silky ball player in the middle. If that happens to be the case then that’s another young gun who slots into the side.

I believe @teddy23 was saying something about that a while ago.

Wouldn’t mind seeing it, gives us 6 ball playing options in starting side. Doueihi, Bula, Luai, Galvin, Api and Fainu.

Need to give him a season off the bench coming off at 20 mins for the rest of the game first to ease him in though. Maybe Pole’s first stint at lock before shifting to prop.

just realized Jarome is gonna be 28 when he plays for the tigers. Didn’t realise how old he is, feels like just yesterday he debuted. By the time his deal runs out he is gonna be 31, looks like we definitely are replacing experience with experience no doubt.

I think a lot of teams are showing that the days of a dedicated ‘14’ are changing. A lot of teams have a couple of ‘14s’ on the bench that are capable of playing through the middle. If Latu was to play the ball playing lock roll it would be off the bench like a Dylan Walker for comparison.

It’s possible that’s the plan with him, he did play some lock when he came of the bench.

I think he’s a better 6 though and I like what I’ve seen from Matamua and Sione playing the link role.

Yes I have high hopes for Latu as a ball playing 13 at first receiver the space he’ll be able to create for Luai/Galvin on the edge would be phenomenal.

He’s also very capable of breaking the line if they don’t respect him with the ball and put all the pressure on the halves, both his inside and outside step is crazy good. Along with his short and long balls. On top of that his defence is definitively up to par, I have no doubts about him handling the physical toll in the middle.

I also think he’s more willing to transition into another position if he has his 2 brothers here if it contributes to winning, whilst it might be a more difficult convo to force Galvin to do so and remain at the club long term.

1. Bula
6. Galvin
7. Luai
9. Api/TDS
13. Latu

Take my money

I’ve posted this in the past but no one has ever taken any notice of a thing I’ve said before so not sure you mean me, but if you do it feels weird. Sort of weird like when I was super high on Galvin after preseason and Tucker was certain to tell me I was wrong… Tucker probably still thinks Lachy should be in reserves…

I suggested this after the Cronulla or Parra game when Galvin stamped himself a future NRL mainstay, some on here laughed at me

I’ve always considered Latu more a 13 when we signed Luai as I knew Galvin was better suited next to Jarome.

Karl Olaputo who the Dogs signed with serious promise from the Broncos was a 6 and before his neck injury Gus was in the works of transitioning him into a ball playing 13.

Funnily enough both Olaputo and Latu are very similar with their style of play.
