As suggested by 426Tlgerland I've created this thread where we can discuss our own health issues, or that of family & friend etc

One of the side issues from my liver/lung cancer/immunotherapy treatment is insomnia... But I've really been enjoying watching the tour de France... And a bit of Wimbledon too in between browsing the forum
Pain killers tend to see me waffle on a bit be it talking face to face or posting here so apologies for my long winded posts.

I see my hepatoligist at St George Hospital tomorrow so I've got a few questions and hoping things are "going well"... So to speak... Not real easy to go well with any type of cancer treatment.
 
I had my usual blood Tests which included a PSA. That result came back at 8.1.

My Specialist requested another which I did 3 weeks later and that was 6.0. Had my MRI last week and should get those results back next week and we will then chat with the specialist.

I expect he will ask me to have a biopsy and see where we go from there, I feel good and have a positive attitude with this. If it is cancer I will look at the options, seeds, radiation treatment etc.

Yeah.... I'm very interested as well.
A year already of immunotherapy... Some days I just feel like giving up the side effects giving me hell... So yeah I'd love to hear about these cures @Odessa
I will create a health thread as 426Tlgerland suggested and we can all talk and support each other there... As there's many of my vintage (50s & 60s) when health issues often start to arise

So true - just finished 14 months of immunotherapy for lung cancer - and never having smoked it's quite a shock but apparently 20% of patients are non-smokers and a majority of those are women. Although the blood tests and CT scans took away my fear of needles so it's a small positive.
 
Good luck guys, unfortunately i have just turned 55 and have been feeling a bit off lately OK around 12 months or so, went to see my DR, and sent for a few test .....they found i have a ascending aorta aneurysm 4.8cm, at the moment need to have scans and test every 6 months, plus my PSA is at 5 and just starting to have bloods and tests done for this. Hang in there guys.
 
For someone who was given 18 months to live 18 months ago and was literally given more time from chemo and an “old med op” this is a really interesting debate.
My tumour was wrapped around my pancreas, (hugging it with two arms and legs wrapped around like a kid hanging on for dear life, as they said), with a major artery running up between the embrace. The chemo made the tumour open up its arms and legs, and peel away from the top, all the way down to the bottom. This allowed the surgeon to just “snip the whole thing off at the bottom”, and the artery was almost left unaffected, requiring just a few stitches.
I do have some side effects that have impacted my capacity to work at the moment and although the cancer spread prior to the op I am alive at 18 months, and a lot of it has to do with chemo.
 
My aunt chose not to get treatment for lung cancer
Was given 12months and lasted 4 years
Nursed her own mother through alzheimers and didn’t want to burden anyone with the same
She got a round of chemo in the last 6 months. Not a delayed fight as the horse had well and truly bolted but supposedly to reduce the pain in her dying days
 
I have a bad feeling this thread will devolve into its own type of cancer, reading some of the nonsense in the Signings thread.

The reason I have an interest on a footy forum is because I've worked in drug development for 20 years, including cancer therapies.

My first comment is if you have an issue go see your GP and get a referral to see a specialist. If you don't like the specialist, by all means ask to be referred for a second opinion.

DO NOT rely upon your own online research, because many people are not medically or scientifically trained and don't have the skills to undertake thorough medical research or necessarily to understand the content of medical papers.

The internet is a dreadful rabbit hole of misinformation and every second youtube video is of some quack or even some well meaning person trying to convince the viewer of one thing or another. Usually also to sell you something. You'll not find greater misinformation and mumbo jumbo than in medical and "wellness" content.

Secondly - the overwhelming truth is most medical practitioners are concerned with the health outcomes for their patients above all other outcomes. Most medical practitioners do not need kick-backs from drug companies because they are already very well paid just doing their regular job. The drug development and Health industry is VERY heavily regulated and it's very difficult to cheat and fudge on a grand scale - there are just too many links in the chain for fraud and corruption to remain undiscovered.

So anyone who starts talking about "Big Pharma" is probably about to tell you how bad these companies are, suggesting by some unknown process that they are all in cahoots and have taken over "the system" to suppress cures and only sell drugs. That is pure fiction.

Ethically the pharma and medical companies were more dubious decades ago (say 1980s and earlier), in the same way that chemical or manufacturing companies may have dicey histories. A lot of that has been cleaned up due to regulation, and because medical and pharma companies are delivering products that are consumed by humans (literally: into the body), they are about as heavily regulated as any modern industry.

So I hope to see in this thread stories about positive outcomes and positive mentalities, not conspiracy bullshit and links to Dr Quack about how the entire industry is making people ill.
 
Was told I had non - Hodgkin lemphona nearly, on 2 years ago , doctor says they are dormant at this time , but it’s like carrying a time bomb just waiting for it to go off . So to all on here who have cancer or other deadly illness , all we can do is keep our chins up and hope are doctors have are backs .

Ladies, don't forget to have you mammies grammed every 2 years, and your cervix scratched (dunno, trying to lighten the tone of a yuk procedure) every 2 years too.

Fellas, get your PSA done.

Everyone check your heart, your cholesterol, your sugars, BP, and your skin checked regularly ♥️

Quick update on my man: he's healing well after his quadruple bypass- just driving me crazy,y because he's not allowed to do anything!!
