A sad story Lauren but my sincere sympathies at your loss. This is something I don’t like to talk about, as it’s still hard for me to understand and was really difficult to come to terms with. But I sincerely hope it encourages people to get a full health check and that it proves useful to someone. So thanks @Suzie-Q I’ve been meaning to bring up this topic on the Human Diet & Lifestyle thread but kept forgetting to.
I’ve seen members discuss their cholesterol problems and strongly advise consulting your GPs and other professionals (like nutritionists) rather than watching YouTube videos. Getting a lipid profile test done could potentially change your life.
My very healthy, strong and young partner suddenly died from a massive heart attack due to underlying medical conditions - specifically a congenital heart defect and familial hypercholesterolemia. Both conditions were asymptomatic, but the combination of them contributed to his loss despite his extremely healthy lifestyle.
Familial hypercholesterolemia is a serious genetic condition that leads to high cholesterol levels regardless of diet or exercise. It can be present without obvious symptoms and greatly increases the risk of heart disease. I’ve since learned that FH is not only common in people of Polynesian descent but also among those of Indigenous Australian and Lebanese heritage. However, there are medications that can help manage the condition and a tailored diet can be crucial for preventative care. For example, even foods like avocado and egg yolk need to be limited.
Suze, sending you both strength (patience😂) and positive thoughts for his recovery 🤗🌟✨😘 Your support and sharing of experiences are so important for raising awareness and I hope this conversation helps others in some way. And to everyone on here who is going through a tough time, my thoughts are with you as well ❤️🩹🙏

Wow, Lauren, I'm so sorry for your loss. The loss of any life is sad but to lose a young and healthy partner as you have is beyond words. I hope your pain eases with the passage of time. Best wishes to you mate. I went down that path in 2012 and am still here to tell the tale. Happy to answer any questions you might have on my experience. Feel free to PM me.I had my usual blood Tests which included a PSA. That result came back at 8.1.
My Specialist requested another which I did 3 weeks later and that was 6.0. Had my MRI last week and should get those results back next week and we will then chat with the specialist.
I expect he will ask me to have a biopsy and see where we go from there, I feel good and have a positive attitude with this. If it is cancer I will look at the options, seeds, radiation treatment etc.
Thanks all , it’s great to know we can come together when it’s needed .Was told I had non - Hodgkin lemphona nearly, on 2 years ago , doctor says they are dormant at this time , but it’s like carrying a time bomb just waiting for it to go off . So to all on here who have cancer or other deadly illness , all we can do is keep our chins up and hope are doctors have are backs .
Thanks for checking. I saw the specialist after my MRI and the results look good. He doesn't want me to undertake a Biopsy, but wants another PSA test in December. If that looks good then annual PSA tests thereafter.Best wishes to you mate. I went down that path in 2012 and am still here to tell the tale. That sounds really positive. Great result mate. Thanks for checking. I saw the specialist after my MRI and the results look good. He doesn't want me to undertake a Biopsy, but wants another PSA test in December. If that looks good then annual PSA tests thereafter.
I appreciate the support mate.
100% well written , we all need to do check ups and I for one never went to the doctors , but as age crept up , wife pushed the issue so I went to her doctor , full blood tests , blood pressure , down the throat into stomach camera , same for the other end , all no pain all clear , but PSA was the one , first test was low 5 s then just kept creeping up , so had Prostate samples taken , that was a bit of a pain and 2 weeks off work but they are looking for cancer so you just need to get it done , all clear just an enlarged prostate, may need further surgery down the track if it effects when you pee , get checked everyone , just do itHow's everyone going?
Ladies, don't forget to have you mammies grammed every 2 years, and your cervix scratched (dunno, trying to lighten the tone of a yuk procedure) every 2 years too.
Fellas, get your PSA done.
Everyone check your heart, your cholesterol, your sugars, BP, and your skin checked regularly ♥️
Quick update on my man: he's healing well after his quadruple bypass- just driving me crazy,y because he's not allowed to do anything!!
