Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

What type of training is he doing ?
If he’s knees are shot I’m gathering it not running.
Wait on, if they get worse maybe he could be medically retired.
How does that work do the club still have to pay his contract out ?

I’ve been asking the same question regarding paying him out … he has been limping all year and playing one week and then out 2 weeks … apparently surgery is an option ..but rumours here is that he refuses to have it … so this is the future for him whilst he is here ?

Talking to Paseka's brother two months ago, it was solely money.

He still liked the Tigers, but Manly offered him unturndownable money at that point of his career.

There was no ill will apparently.
So then Pascoe should have reported Manly to the NRL for tampering. He was under contract for a few years they couldn't offer him anything, he kicked up a stink and trained poorly in order to get his way. There is no way we should have rolled over and let our best junior at the time walk for nothing.

True that mate , but when haven’t we rolled over and let players walk

Blore did 100% want to stay but for some reason the tigers never sat him down for a chat and negotiate, he made the move due to us showing no interest , it was a big mistake by the club , he is better than a lot we have running around at present
Benji thought Papali’i and Bateman were both better than him, he has since realised he was wrong.
Why would you want a 6 foot 4 110kg fit and dedicated beast playing in your back row ?
Sometimes I think Benji is on the same sleeping tablets Pascoe was on.

100% Blore wanted to stay and Pascoe & Co did not have a meeting with him and he said that directly to me at the Zurich centre when I toured the facility.

I don't blame him for looking after his future and even if he was injured for a large portion of his time with us, I still rate him in front of players like Tumeth , Sukkar, Matamua , Kit Laulilii and Porter.
He will play finals this year as well as Brooks , Talau and Laurie so they won't miss being a WT player.

Hopefully we can turn this around with a few decent signings and Steph can start that by committing tomorrow if an announcement is happening as suggested along with a few solid forwards who run hard and tackle hard.

We have had patches this year where we have looked good, however we have not been able to sustain that for the 80 minutes with stupid errors or a sin bin or two.
Hopefully Luai can direct the team along with Api to play smarter albeit adding a few strong recruits along with some of the younger kids gaining valuable experience this year ,as losing should make you hungrier for success and train harder which these young kids seem willing to do.

One thing I have noticed is that we need to get better in our strength and conditioning department as we are not able to knock the players over with two or three players in the tackle which leads to their fast play the balls and we are then defensively on the back foot.

Hoping to hear something from Richo soon ( I have three memberships if needed to get communicated to)

Lets not get the spoon this year and see Parra get it

They'll be in damage control tomorrow arvo and fill us with more fluff that his departure will enable us to promote someone from our mythical nursery.

Maybe it is Steph wearing the Women and League Jersey with Brydens on it saying he is leaving like the sponsor??

Happy for one of the two to leave and Steph signs on for the future and gets a dose of angry pills with his extra cash.

In defence of the Paseka decision, he signed for Manly in March 2017. He did not play more than 13 games for each of the first two seasons and only started 2 matches in that same time, the other 24 matches off the bench.

At that particular time our prop rotation was Origin-level Aaron Woods, Ava S, Jesse Sue, Tim Grant, Lawnmower boy, JJ Felise and The Huth. We had also just signed Twal from Parramatta, who played immediately and managed 9 games in total 2017.

I can understand therefore both the desire for the club to want Paseka to stay and bide his time, and also why the player didn't want that. I recall Paseka being huge but struggling with his minutes and the defensive requirements of the game.

I genuinely don't believe Paseka became a legitimate FG prospect until 2021 when he finally began starting matches and played 21 games that season. I still don't think he's a particularly great prop. Guy has never played rep football of any kind, though he would be eligible for both Tonga and NZ.

So if a club wants to buy one of our juniors and invest 4-5 years in their development to get them to consistent FG standard, in that case I say "good luck to them" because it's a very significant investment of both time and money. It's not necessarily the time and/or money we could have or needed to have spent.

It clearly did not help that we were in the process of sacking JT and the further player losses in 2017 would hurt far more than Paseka.

Now if he turned out to be Payne Haas after 1 or 2 seasons then fair enough, but Paseka is not even remotely in that echelon. He doesn't have much competition at Manly, who have always known their prop stocks were low given they headhunted Lawnmower Boy from us, signed both Nathan Brown and Matt Lodge this year from the wilderness, and continue to field Tof Sipley week on week (who is an average player at best).

Nah I'm not going wring hands about Paseka. Your other points are valid but this player isn't a posterchild for our inadequacies in player development.
We should have at least done a player swap to release him. He was a star of the NSW u20s side.
A couple of years later and all of the props you listed were gone and we were in needed of a young bull to boost our pack.

But as it took Paseka a while to find his groove in first grade we have to be equally patient with Miller. He shouldn't be top 30 yet, that's not his fault, but he's improved a lot this year and still has a way to go but he's moving in the right direction.

Get Miller fit and lifting big weights in the off season to build muscle and he will be a weapon next year. He needs to drop a few kilos to get better lateral movement but is solid in defence and has a quick play the ball now but will improve further with better stamina

If he's medically retired then his pay doesn't go to the cap. The nrl is pretty soft on medical retirements these days, but the player has to recognise the need.

If he has surgery and comes back then great. If he refuses surgery then i don't know, maybe we can medically retire him for not doing what's needed to get his body right for nrl standard

Taniela was our best junior in 2017?

Interesting.
