Stefano Utoikamanu #241

Well that's 3 of our starting pack gone.
Papali'i, Bateman & Stefano.
Albeit Bateman  may return.

Hopefully Richo has been quieting working some magic behind the scenes and we've got some astute recruitments incoming, otherwise we'll be lining up with a Holden Cup like line up.
That's my concern Demps. There's not a lot of quality around and we need more than one or two. We've got some good junior backs at the club but few good forwards. I was a huge backer of Richo when he came but I'm starting to wonder whether this club is in a death spiral. Luai is an outstanding buy but he can't do it on his own. We need a tough, uncompromising pack.

Dont underemate what the loss of Stefano means to this club...

It will send a clear message to any player in the WT system that has talent and potential... to leave and join a club that will further develop your career....He is leaving not for money, he is leaving because he does not see a bright future at the WT; he has seen what leaving the WT has done for Moses, Brooks, Talau, Blore etc.; ..They are all playing finals.....or SOO footy...He has seen what joining the WT has done for Paps, Bateman and Klemmer - all big noted signings who have flopped at the WT....All this comes into play in his decsion to go...Bet your bottom dollar thats what the Galvins, Pole, and others off contract in the next 12-24 months will also think about and jetison too...I'm telling you the future is bleak not bright likes Richo will want us to believe.

Was in one of our other threads , no club or player mentioned just negative response to our offers apparently , don’t hold me to it just whats been said , but to be honest , no news is good news , well not all the time , I feel the info is correct and we have not got anyone yet
I saw that post, if this guy from within the club?
Very strange it isn't in any media outlets.
Either way, if he stays or goes, just move the fk on with the saga. So over hearing about it. He's not a $900k player. Gordon Tallis summed it up perfectly on 360. The Front Rowers role doesn't change, whether its a winning or losing club. Stef hasn't lived up to his hype.

Bit of an over reaction mate.

Stef was a Paramatta Junior.

I bet you $100 that Galvin and Pole will be long term tigers.

The Bateman situation whilst unique, is what they do in European soccer. Send an out of form player to another league to find some form and come back ---- or transfer them out...

Mate, I hope you are right...honestly do..but I just don;t feel it... Happy to take you up on the bet 😎

Agee with your previous post and part of this that the repeated poor decision making was down to incompetence. But only in regards to picking dud players.
I disagree that the coaches we continuously picked have been duds.
When we hired them:
-Benji was a punt and it’s too early to call him a dud.
-Maguire was not a dud.
-Cleary was not a dud.
-Jason Taylor came with a solid resume of assistant coaching. He didn’t work out and we got rid fairly quick. He ended up being a dud, but at the time was an educated punt.
-Potter was never given a proper chance.
-Sheens was not a dud.

like I said … Cleary chose to leave .. not much can be done about that… I also think some long term player signings he made and then got to walk away from did us no favours

We can have our opinions about the quality of the others… but at the end of the day it’s a results driven business … plenty of coaches in other sports get the chop when you don’t produce the results … why would it be different here ? Souths sacked Madge three years after he won a premiership… why can other clubs punt unsuccessful coaches but not us?

And as a Sydney club we offer no point of difference against the other clubs other than we are perceived as perennial losers with money to spend.
There is only so many Sydney clubs Gould can rebuild and we are not one of them.

I would suggest they try to change this perception… I think that’s why they got Richo in … to be fair to him… he has inherited this team and it will take longer than 7 months to change … even took Gould 4-5 years to get the Dogs to mid table..

Stef is young and not a leader , pressure with being a leader and having to deal with contract probably broke him this year , I could imagine Stef in a pack say with
JWH taking on up , then Hunt taking one up etc , then Stef coming off the bench and start taking them up , he would be fine as the 2 really tuff props already have done the damage to the opp defence , that’s where Stef will be good , second part of a first half

For sure Cleary made some shocking signings. Almost conspiracy-worthy.

And we have sacked unsuccessful coaches.
