Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

We keep reading how there is a real shortage of players who are available over the next couple of years, so how will the NRL fill the rosters for the expansion teams they want to introduce??No expansion team will succeed if they are totally outclassed from day one.

We all said that about the Dolphins man….Gould went right off his triple chin about it. There’s players out there. Outside of the pathways.

It's distribution of talent not amount of it. New teams are fine if talent is taken from top teams and spread around and then every team has to pick up 3 or 4 at the bottom of the roster

This.

The NRL don't seem to care about having an even competition in the way it was in the 2000s.

If Payne Haas suddenly became available, you know the only teams with a shot are the top 4 teams. That doesn't allow for an even competition.

With all due your respect Richo - what are the Tigers going to do with a war chest?
I was thinking the same 24 hours ago, but having reflected on it, we are being patient and people have reminded me that players look to get out of contracts early at the end of a season.

Money talks and players will walk! Maybe this time we will be on the right end of a deal.

What I don’t get, we are just thinking about players coming off contract. How many players have we lost in the last few years before contract expiry? So I can only assume it’s all possible. Why don’t we just think outside the box? Target the players we want, who realistically we can afford to bring across? Then start some off the record dialogue with player managers? I am sure that there are a number of clubs that take this approach? I know not ethical! But gives a crap. Let’s do what needs to be done to start winning. Have lots of other ideas as well… well not my ideas but obvious what other clubs are doing? I am sick of us being the nice team. Time to get our hands dirty and start winning! Well to me it’s pretty obvious and simple….what’s scares me is that it is not so to our football managers.

I am sure this is happening but you likely won’t read about it on the back page. Kind of a secret.

Great deal for Stefano if true. Big money, great club. I love the tigers but I'd seriously think about going as well if Melbourne were offering more money and what feels like almost guaranteed success and personal improvement.

I find it interesting that average players like Luciano and Stefano are able to get such massive contracts.
But Luc it was a totally different circumstance.

St George were on the outer. He announced his price tag was 900k, come sign me.

That meant we could have paid 900k or maybe 915 and outbidded St George.

Totally different to Stef (if true) signing with Melbourne. When you have Craig Bellamy saying he will get the best out of you, you know that you will reach or come close to max fitness and be playing finals. Stefano is pretty much a tigers name only with perhaps a little fame from the Origin Bench. If he won a premiereship with Melbourne it would mean a lot more.

I understand your point and I’m not opposed to him staying in the back row. However, I’ve been watching Samuela for a while and always thought he would be a better prop I guess it’s just a personal preference. He has also played that position often throughout his junior career so it’s not a massive switch up.

We have to also take into account that the prop market is extremely slim for the next 2/3 years hence why Stefano is getting the $ and attention he’s getting. There’s absolutely no one available until at the very most 2027 in that position.

Whilst there’s a lot of quality becoming available in the edge row.

Happy either way.
It’s a good point. His running style on the edge and football could make him a difficult player to handle in the middle, kind of see him like a Joe Tapine mould if he was to move.
Based off that, a move to the middle is probably inevitable but just like how Joe Tapine started off down at the Raiders whilst his young, quick and agile might be best to keep him on the flank.
