Stefano Utoikamanu #241

I am indifferent to his departure.

The bigger issues are:
1. Why we can’t develop any players.
2. We will need to overpay for Stef’s replacement(s) anyway.
3. Due to point 2 above you can discount our “war chest” by about 40%.

Thus, the cycle continues.

Jumping ship when the going is tough...

Textbook cat behaviour.
I don't understand this argument. He had a clause in his contract and he activated it. He obviously played very well up until the last couple of months where the contract negotations seemed to weigh him down.

I never really rated him that high but he must not have played too bad until last year since he made Origin ahead of some seasoned professionals.

He was what Sione Fainu is for us this year, but the going has been tough for a while, this will be his 3rd spoon in a row.

I raised this earlier that he may be comparing himself to his peers who he may have owned but they are playing Finals and he's not. It must burn him.

He won't be the first or the last who was good before he came and will be good after he leaves. We failed him to an extent as well. We needed him to be a leader because guys like Klemmer, Bateman, Papali'i didn't do their job. The club didn't do its job of hiring the coaches to help him out.

I think Stefano did his job most games that he was here. I don't begrudge him in the same vain as Cleary, Moses, Aloiai, Matterson etc like the people here. In fact, I don't begrudge him at all.

He's been the shining light is 2 disastrous seasons for us. I wish him well.

Well they signed Luai on the back of Benji becoming the coach...
So maybe it'll take till 2025 for the playing group to start taking that attitude.

Am I correct in saying that Bennet is Marshall's mentor?
He might help him bring Tevita Pangai this way (Souths wont be able to fork out as much as us).
Pretty sure a $6m contract also helped...

That makes afb a cat to for running at latu?

Please don't compare the pair, he does it habitually
and isn't on the same level as AFB. On a side note,
I didn't want to mention it earlier out of respect for
him but I was told he's a mummies boy which didn't surprise me lol. His mother has coddled him
at Parramatta and his wife now at Tigers managing
and interfering in his career. he is a product of being
told he is better than he is and those around him.
Entitled. No longer a tiger to me at the end of the day.
Couldn't care what happens 2 him moving forward
until we play him & show him up 4 the cat that he is

You dont understand the argument of condemning somebody for walking out on a club when they're struggling?

Right.

Club allegiance should mean more than individual honours. He should've been grateful for the chance, taken the extended offer and fought tooth and nail to drag this club out of the doldrums. Pay back the faith the club and supporters have shown him.

This far, he's done and achieved nothing to repay the faith.

He's now taken the easy route. And that will ALWAYS be weak as piss.

But that's my take.

For the record, I hope he's a miserable failure elsewhere.

Good riddance to the guy honestly, his heart clearly hasn't been with the club for a while now. Absolutely laughable that this guy sees himself as a leader.

I sincerely hope this move backfires and the team he joins misses finals next year.
He won’t backfire….its a shame he could not see a bright future being a WT and has decided to leave…this is going to send a big message to the Galvins in the team….the knock on effect could be disasterous….i believe the Dogs have him…which says a lot as only 12 months ago they were supposedly much worse that us….if only we had a competitive 2024 he would’ve stayed. .

Spot on. Blaming the team for you misfiring and
then leaving them behind because you think you're
better than them shows the mark of the man. He
didn't deserve origin, let his teamates down badly

Hahaha "mummy's boy", lock in his new nickname

Yeh, but we have struggled for a while. And no Club in this day and age means nothing, the team does but not the Club. It's not about individual honours. He can see that he cannot grow any more here. He cannot push himself to the next level and he sees that he doesn't have the support here that he will get elsewhere. We need a leader in Stefano's position and at 24 years of age, he isn't that.

Pay back faith? Please, we have shat on him more than supported him on this forum at least. No one does anything for fans.

If he is truly going to Melbourne, or even Dogs then he knows how hard the training is going to be there. Going to a club known to physically push you beyond your capacities and saying no to a massive contract here isn't taking the easy way out.

I love this Club and if I had a 24 year old kid, I wouldn't want him to play at the Tigers either.

I'm not at all his biggest fan, but I can see more and more players leaving like Papali'i and Bateman,

I blame all this on Richo , he came here as the big white hope and what have got bugger all . And here’s why we told blore he was free to leave because of his injured pass , SO what do we do trade him for a one legged centre , so who came out on top from that deal RICHO
We then tell papa he can go too , if I am stepho I would thinking things are going south .
Then we realise Bateman , for me that would be the straw which broke the camels back .
This part I have no idea if it happened, but if I was CEO , before letting everyone walk I would have called a meeting and invited our new half back to speak about how changes next year will bring a different outcome. I would have laid out who we were chasing to strengthen the side , little things came make a big difference.
But all Richo and benji have done is weaken the team , I think him leaving will tigger a landslide of players wanting out
There is no way Richo is to blame for any of this. Who inserted these dumb clauses into his contract was it Richo? Who assembled the weakest roster in the competition this season was it Richo? Everyone been carrying on about Bateman & Papa being overpaid duds then Richo gets rid of them now people are crying wolf. Pascoe, Lee & Sheens have set this club back years what don't people understand everyone sooking about Benji who appointed him was it Richo?

Move on. As with that other one last year, dead to me.
I judge good/great players as ones who, through adversity, with hard work and determination and character/will, lift and help drag an underperforming team up to be competitive (eg in our case Api) - he ain't one of those. He is the forward version of a down hill skier.
Focus on retaining guys who bust a gut and can be seen making a difference; Pole, Samuela etc.

Sounds like people hate him on here anyway, so the clauses might even be a blessing in disguise,
