John Bateman #268

Don't know, don't care. But it is always easy as an employee to put the boot in when they leave - media will eat it up. Same mindset set as blaming a coach for poor on field performances. Always easier to sack one person than the team.
If those quotes in the article are the only thing he said, he isn't having a dig at Tigers at all. He just says Sam Burgess has a good culture at Wolves.

Whatever you think about Bateman, I can't recall him airing any dirty laundry in public, at Tigers or Raiders.

Agreed. My post was poorly articulated. (and to fair didn't even read it). I meant I don't really care what is reported in the media - they will always make a mountain out of a mole hill when it comes to WT - even if a comment wasn't meant as negative, they will find a way to make it one. Click bait/ WT anti-bias. 🤷‍♂️

He only played 16 games for the Tigers yet won more games for the Tigers than Brooks did in what felt like 30 years that low IQ stooge cosplayed as a first grader. Hastings left 90% because Bateman wouldn't play in the same team and 10% Sheens wanted him at lock. Hastings all day.

Agree mate . Never really rated Bateman tbh always thought he was basically a center who played in the back row because he wasn't fast enough . I am a bit biased because I think all back rowers should be like Sirro ,GT or Phil Lowe going way back before my time.

Should we have?

I mean, marginally yes. Hastings has done a little better then Brooks. He was clearly more halfback then Brooks and clearly a better organisational footballer.
That said, he hasn't set the world alight at Newcastle.

If the roumers are true, we moved Hastings on to get Bateman.... Correct, hindsight Horrible move.

I don't think that was the big mistake.

The big mistake was not thinking big. Adam Reynolds. Break open the bank, Madge coached him at Souths and he would have surely prefered a Sydney home. We for some idiotic reason target Hastings over Reynolds. Brisbane signed Reynolds and signed him for 800k. (from memory). Had we brought Reynolds here, told Brooks he was playing 5/8 and told Doueihi to do something else (fullback?), WE would have had a spine.
Stop it , Winston , ur making far too much sense, blokes like u are very dangerous, pedaling truths like that . 😳

Yep...just a clickbait headline

It's over a week old, but haven't seen it shared on forum.

John Bateman Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves’ John Bateman insists he intends to return to Australia at the end of the Super League season. Bateman has joined up with the Wolves on a short-term deal for the remainder of the campaign and looks set to make his debut for the club on Friday against Hull KR.
Bateman joins Sam Burgess’ side at a vital period of the season, with the Wolves currently sitting on top of the Super League table and pushing to get their hands on the Grand Final trophy for the very first time. Bateman knows what it takes to win a Grand Final and he’ll be doing all he can to help Warrington over the line over the next couple of months.
However, the back-rower still has two years left to run on his Wests Tigers contract and as it stands, he will be returning to the NRL club in the off-season.

“I’ve got a contract there and I’ve got to honour it,” he said. “They’ve given me the opportunity to come over here for now and do what I do, which I appreciate from their end. It’s a big thing.
“We probably didn’t have much to play for over there, which is probably why they were more than keen to do it. I’ve got two years left there – we’ll have to see what happens and what gets said from their end.
“From my end, I’ve got a house over there and family so for me, I’ll be going back there at the end of the year.”
On the move, he added: “It all happened literally within a week. Last Monday, Benji [Marshall] pulled me in and told me there was an opportunity to come over and play, and it just went from there. It’s gone pretty fast.

“Not winning games was a problem. Where we were in the league was a problem. That needs sorting but that’s obviously an internal thing.”

Bateman has been named in Warrington’s 21-man squad to take on Hull KR on Friday night and in truth, debuts probably don’t come much bigger with Warrington looking to establish themselves at the top of the division. Toby King, Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Joe Philbin have all been included in the squad after overcoming injuries, while Luke Yates is in line to make his home debut following his switch from Huddersfield Giants.

I found this to be a funny quote from Burgess about Bateman.

“He’s a calm mind and I’ll probably say at the weekend it wasn’t our calmest performance (against London Broncos) so it was good having him out there along with a few more of the cool heads, so that’s what he brings, he brings great leadership. I don’t know where he’ll play but he’ll be playing.”

Just goes to show how little intelligence and self control Burgess has/had.Hope Burgess keeps Bateman over there permanently
