Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Staines doesn’t lack for effort, but he seems to lack any real penetration. Doesn’t bust tackles or beat the first man on a kick return and often gets pushed back / dominated in the tackle. He might have speed in open space if he’s put away, but how often does that happen at NRL level, particularly at the Tigers. Powerful and explosive is the currency of the modern NRL winger.
I would play him at centre and replace him from Adam , Luai will get clean ball to him and his speed will do the rest , he has loads of ticker just needs good ball , at present he just returns the ball and gets hammered

I'd rather see
1. Bula
2. Staines
3. Olam
4. Turuva
5. Skelton
6. Galvin
7. Luai
I agree. Hopefully Turuva can handle the defensive side in the centres.

I think Staines leg speed and Skelton’s size is a good combo for yardage sets. Skelton first hit up, then Staines uses his speed.

while Skelton’s a brilliant signing in a position of need, we’re still a long long way away from being out of the woods.

we currently have two free roster spots with Sione certain to re-sign, Sezer’s future up in the air, and Tumeth has an option in his favour.

I expect Bateman won’t be back but that’s only one spot. a handful of players have been shopped to no avail and some have been handed full time contracts that aren’t deserving whatsoever.

it’s going to make for interesting viewing.
I think it’s only a matter of time before Naden is gone, even if we have to pay him out for his last year.

Agree. Would hope if Douiehi put his head down and trained a whole season he could sort out his defence but increasinly thinking that's never going to happen. Hope I'm wrong...
The problem with Douiehi is he says all the right things, but rarely backs it up. It would be great for us especially on his contract value if he could somehow turn it around, but IMO there have been too many times he has shown lack of effort in certain areas, which i think is just a flaw in his character and not something he can turn around.

There's a few unheralded types of forwards out there I'd love this club to have on the roster.

The Titans really have such a strong group of forwards & guys like Joe Stimson & Jaiman Jolliffe would be great additions to the squad. Stimson is off contract- and I know a lot will go "he's nothing special".

But he's also through the Storm system, Bulldogs & now Hasler's Titans. He's a defensive rock who absolutely dominates the State Cup while playing a strong role when called on into 1st grade. But, on top of that- he sets standards & is wanted by his coaching staffs everywhere he goes. I think as our #13 or even starting at prop, he will defend the middle for all he is worth- one of the keys I believe to turning the club around.

Jolliffe is that typical bush bashing tough guy. He's under contract, but that Titans pack is stacked for good props. I'd be interested to see if the idea of starting wouldn't get him interested.

Mat Croker I've mentioned before. Same as Horsburgh & Hetherington.

If we can hold the middle of the field & get strike from our wide forwards, good dummy half attack & some impact through Pole & Sione Fainu off the bench- I believe our forward mix is better than it currently is.

I'm particularly interested in investing in intelligent forwards over physical specimens. I want guys that work to a plan- think Melbourne type props. Christian Welch, for example. But they additionally need to be strong. Not concerned about speed so much, or height & weight. I want guys that can hold their own one-on-one & not need 3-4 guys bringing a player down in the middle.

Alot really depends on how many roster spots we can free up. We must strengthen the squad as well as starting forward pack but right now with limited spots makes it hard to do both in 25 but in 26 we can further improve again if we are smart.

Crocker, Stimson are solid. I like Jolliffe he looks to have some very good upside at times.

I think that's it for outside backs surely.

1. Bula w/ Turuva, Staines & Mason for depth

2 & 5. First choice probably Staines & Skelton now with L Laulilii for depth & Turuva if required to push out. Lobb on a development deal.

3 & 4. First choice Olam & Turuva. To'a, Douiehi, Faataape (I would guess at worse gets a development extension). Also Feledy & Suakuru will be in NSW Cup.

Halves - Luai, Galvin, L Fainu & Sezer

Hookers - Api & Da Silva

WE NEED MIDDLES & EDGES.

Next signings for me would be Jack Williams & Royce Hunt from Cronulla in the first instance. Otherwise a possible Parra player on the move Hopgood would be great or Lane. Surely the dogs will have surplus with Tuipanoa from the Chooks coming. As Melbourne with Stef coming. A Joe Chan maybe?

Pack of Klemmer & Pole & Twal off the bench with Sione Fainu. Needs more.

Lock & Backrower can make the pack!

Interesting if Latu gets that job at 13.
Surely it would be Hopgood, then we’d have Jahream, Jerome, Jeral and Jamayne lol

Stimson is in no way a rock in defence. Hes been just okay in reserve grade and ordinary in 1st grade. Jollife, Croker, Horsburgh, Herherington yes. Stimson no, no way.
Horsburgh I think is easily the best forward on the market but linked to everyone but us.
Mason Teague is the first bloke I'd target. Dolphins lock who has been surpassed by Plath. West Sydney kid who I'm pretty sure would have captained Turuva in lower grades at Penrith. Very good defender (much better than Stimson) and has some ball skills to go with it.
If not him than Puru from Canberra. Another panthers junior with his pathway blocked in his current system. Decent enough defensively, better than Stimson not as good as Teague but offers a little more with the ball in both running metres and ball skills.

This Skelton guy is not worth anymore than $ 300 / $ 350
if Richo has paid any where near $ 450 / 475 for this guy we are screwed
same old stuff on re peat , this would be the start I feel is coming with a war chest of $ 2 million spent on crap average players , brace for the worst , Richo do your job mate , that would be a good signing at $ 300 / 350 not 450 / 475 k. Please
Kade 7 reported $475k over 2 years = $235k per year

Yep I think they may view either Turuva or Skelton as a having the potential to play centre. Particularly with Olam looking busted.

Mate there have been plenty of soft players that record good stats every game. I'm not a stats man, I rarely take notice of them. I'm much more interested in hearing from people who have been watching him. If some reasonable judges say he has turned things around from earlier on in the year then I'd go with that. No way I'm going with stats on paper. Mighty Tiger who seems a good judge said he has watched him and he is terrible. So I'm more inclined to go with that. Happy to hear from others who have watched him recently and certainly happy to be proven wrong on Liam. However I just don't see how all of a sudden he is a good player. He was always average with terrible hands, went downhill badly early this year, so at 30, it's hard to imagine him suddenly becoming a good NRL regular. It's just doesn't happen like that, ever.

That's just me though.

Woo sorry if I miss read that , $ 475 over 2 is not to bad , $ 237 is ok good purchase , I apologise now for my other words in Other areas of the forum , I missed read it and stuffed up , again sorry on this one
Mate, that sort of maturity is not welcome on this forum. You are supposed to double down and make personal attacks for at least 3 pages. 😉
