Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Just a list of players I would love to have and would definitely complement this team in 2025 🔥

Backs - Lehi Hopoate, Grant Anderson, Tyran Wishart

Forwards - Erin Clark, Jaiman Jolliffe, Jazz Tevaga, Max King, Kurtis Morrin, Corey Jensen, Jmaine Hopgood
Anderson the only one on the list I wouldn't want. I'd have him comparable to Staines and don't think he'd provide anything in a struggling team.
Otherwise, is any on your list actually available other than Jazz?

That literally fills one of our biggest needs which IMO was a lack of yardage from our back 5. Skelton and Turuva will make a massive difference
Totally agree, next year with a fully fit squad will be the first season in nearly a decade our guys don't get bent or driven back when starting our sets. We will finally be able to generate some momentum and most importantly play the ball speed at the start of our sets, elevating pressure on the squad and putting opposition defences under pressure. Atm they dominate play 1 and 2 and the rest of their defensive set they are all set, next year we will finally give our backs and Api a staggered defensive line to attack instead of a brick wall. If all works out fingers crossed.

Staines doesn’t lack for effort, but he seems to lack any real penetration. Doesn’t bust tackles or beat the first man on a kick return and often gets pushed back / dominated in the tackle. He might have speed in open space if he’s put away, but how often does that happen at NRL level, particularly at the Tigers. Powerful and explosive is the currency of the modern NRL winger.
Totally agree about Staines, but he is always selected by our "EXPERTS" in their sides?
Love for wooden spoons? We need points on the scoreboard.

If we are moving on players on big money and signing guys like Skelton and Hassett on modest deals, surely that means the war chest is growing?

With very limited roster spots, not sure how we are going to spend 2mil+ and comply with NRL spending rules (95% of the cap must be spent) unless we sign a couple of big names.

I dont think Id bring anymore backs to the club for 2025.
Weve signed three good ones and we do have choices already here. One of the possible lineups could be as follows:
  • 1. Bula
  • 2. Turuva
  • 3. Galvin
  • 4. Olam
  • 5. Skelton
  • 6. Luai
  • 7. Sezer
This list has lots of points in it. Backups include Staines, Laulilii, Fainu, To'a, Faataape, Saukuru, Doueihi, Feledy, Sullivan, Alaimalo.

Get them a specialised backs coach who will re-familiarise them with what it takes to form a cohesive unit.

Now get them some hard working pigs to join Api, Pole, Seyfarth and Sam

BB, whats this comment based on? Potential or form? I haven't seen much from him this season.
There aren't many players out there with his size and skill. We certainly don't have any better centre or potentially back row prospects at the club. He's had a few injuries this year which have slowed his progress down, chopping and changing positions and team mates doesn't help build continuity either. Ideally he'd still be on a development contract next year but he has 2 years in the NRL squad. He's a much better player than Faatape, Lobb, Alaimalo, at worst he's a younger version of Toa/Naden but with a much higher ceiling.

Needs to work on his strength, speed, fitness and defence, like all 19 year olds. But he's the sort of player the Storm would love to get and turn into a star, he's got all the raw physical attributes needed to succeed.

They need more pace in that proposed backline …

I dont see Galvin as a Center personally …

I'd bet my left one there'll be some front loading in 2025.

Wishart has literally played every position under the sun at the Storm and been effective! If he hasn’t been resigned at Melbourne he would be such a good get! Killed it in the halves with Munster out, plus a handy goal kicker! NSW lad as well, tough as they come 🔥
Yeah, I think everyone can see that but what was junior position, what position is his best posi and what posi would we buy him for?

We've been front loading players for years, it doesn't help us, it's unprofessional. We need to spend our money on players who can help us win now, get us out of this hellhole we're in. You can only front load newly registered contracts too, so that's mainly our youngsters coming through who aren't on big money to really warrant it. Pole the standout that could get a 'bonus' this year for re-signing a year early. Galvin the other one, but seems like he's waiting to see how things change with Luai at the club before committing.

The problem with Douiehi is he says all the right things, but rarely backs it up. It would be great for us especially on his contract value if he could somehow turn it around, but IMO there have been too many times he has shown lack of effort in certain areas, which i think is just a flaw in his character and not something he can turn around.
It's like Brooks all over again. Convinces everyone he will do this that and the other, but on the field just stuffs it up. Means well, very sincere off the field, but it just ain't there.
No repeats please.
