Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Like you- I think Galvin can be moved to centre, lock or the second row & be effective. He's that kind of player. If it puts our best players on the field- what is to lose? Numbers on their back doesn't stop what they can produce & how they play.

Sezar would be there until Latu earns the spot- & then we are likely stronger still. That's a pretty dangerous backline with guys like Staines, To'a, Doueihi, Fainu, Faataape & youngsters like Lualili'i & Makasini in the wings.

Again- I'll say- we are not THAT far away. Not as far as some might believe.
Improving our discipline will help us take a stride in results as well. We are extremely poor in this regards and it definitely holds us back. Fatigue and sustained pressure probably plays a role in this.

I dont think Id bring anymore backs to the club for 2025.
Weve signed three good ones and we do have choices already here. One of the possible lineups could be as follows:
  • 1. Bula
  • 2. Turuva
  • 3. Galvin
  • 4. Olam
  • 5. Skelton
  • 6. Luai
  • 7. Sezer
This list has lots of points in it. Backups include Staines, Laulilii, Fainu, To'a, Faataape, Saukuru, Doueihi, Feledy, Sullivan, Alaimalo.

Get them a specialised backs coach who will re-familiarise them with what it takes to form a cohesive unit.

Now get them some hard working pigs to join Api, Pole, Seyfarth and Sam
Seven to be precise. You made it easy by putting numbers next to them.

We've been front loading players for years, it doesn't help us, it's unprofessional. We need to spend our money on players who can help us win now, get us out of this hellhole we're in. You can only front load newly registered contracts too, so that's mainly our youngsters coming through who aren't on big money to really warrant it. Pole the standout that could get a 'bonus' this year for re-signing a year early. Galvin the other one, but seems like he's waiting to see how things change with Luai at the club before committing.
Front loading players is 'unprofessional'?

Sit down.

I'm not making a suggestion, I'm making a prediction about where a small part of the money will likely end up.

It's also a far better option than simply spending it all on what's available because it has to be spent.

That is actually the smart play if there is not the required quality on the market.

Parra need cap space if the players they want to move get no bites then they will focus on others they haven’t extended past 25.

If they don’t extend Hopgood by October he can get offers in November. If he signed with us Parra would probably release him early to free cap space up.
The only issue there is Hopgood is one of their best forwards and I can’t see Parramatta releasing him early.

Hopgood would be a high priority re-signing for the Eels, not a realistic recruitment option.
Jack Williams on the other hand would likely be looking for the highest offer at this stage of his career and I think Wests Tigers need a genuine 13 more than any other club.
Likewise with Corey Horsburgh, I’d say it’s likely he would sign with whatever club can pay him the most, again that ideally should be us.

Great to add a big, strong winger, possibly centre, in Skelton. Love to see us also add a quality centre such as Staggs - but can’t see him coming to us. Maybe Tass is an option however we would have to move one of our current centre options on (Naden, Feledy, Toa etc).
Forwards are my biggest concern-without some aggressive 80 minute hardened competitors we will not improve. We can all praise our current crop but truthfully they have not shown the intent or aggressive attitude nor hunger, that is required and who’s to say that they will next season. A few injuries and losses and we are back to lackluster mediocre performances, unless we bring in some true effort guys. We need to enlist “winners” and “competitors”, guys who leave everything on the field and play with heart and desire. This is the one main characteristic we want - On field leaders that will drag everyone else into the fight every game. I had hoped that Bateman and Ice would do this for us but they have been very disappointing in that regard.

1. Bula
2. Cobbo/Skelton
3. Skelton/Staggs
4. Olam
5. Turuva
6. Galvin
7. Luai
One thing with Dragons signing Holmes is that should take them out of the picture to make a play for Staggs or Cobbo come Nov 1 or Averillo for next season.

That should leave us versus Roosters for a quality strike centre (add potentially Taylan May to the list down-the-track).

There were rumblings a couple of months ago that Averillo was homesick & now with Junior Tupou going that way, maybe he would be a better value signing. We can send To'a to the Dolphins as a sign of goodwill.
