Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Worth discussing Galvin...

I honestly see him spending his entire career in the halves. To me, the player he reminds me of the most, physically and ability wise is Daly Cherry Evans.

Benji has given him the jersey and its his to keep.

Latu, however.... I could see him becoming a revelation at centre. Strong defender, has a bit of toe to him. He'd be Jamie Lyon-like, with the ability to ball play and tackle everything thrown in front of him.

Getting Latu Fainu on the field in some capacity should be a priority for the club. They invested quite heavily in both him & Sam. I'm not suggesting 'at all costs', but if there is a way you can have Latu & Galvin & Luai on the field together- you are in a better position than not having them on the field.

You play your best players.

Joey Manu is a better fullback than centre. But you don't drop Tedesco because of it. You find a way to fit them all.

Moving Galvin to centre isn't about not wanting him in the team. It's about wanting the best team of players on the field.

I’ve gone to more games than not this season & there’s three players I can confidently say have a go & try their hardest every single week. Galvin is one of them & a lot of the time he’s the best player on the team.
Having a go and being effective are two different things.
Ive never stated he doesnt have a go, to the contrary I praise the fact he always does.

Well said.
I dont understand why some get so bent out of shape about a suggestion that could well make us stronger. Isnt that what a fan forum is supposed to be about?

Why possibly weaken two positions tho? for the record i’ve been a very big fan of Latu since he burst onto the scene but Galvin in his first season of NRL has done better than you, me & almost everyone in Rugby League thought he would.

Obviously never being able to spend big dollars on big players isn't great.

It's still the only sensible option in a market devoid of genuine talent in key areas.

The real life alternative is Ivan's shopping list circa 2017.
We’ve done it probably the last 4 years now. Time for a new tact.

Good shout. Second coming of Dylan Walker?

He doesn't turn 18 until July, so he wouldn't be eligible until later in the season. It would depend how the team is going and more specifically how the outside backs are performing.
Haemasi is also at school on scholarship and will be in the middle of the Rugby season. I cant see him debuting until the last few rounds at best assuming he is on a contract which even allows him to.

Who says it will weaken any position?

Turuva 430k p.a., Skelton 237k. Looks like Richo knows how to value a player. These are good deals for a team running last for 3 years. Patience is key and who can be offloaded.
Skelton is 95% the player Turuva is at half the price, just a smart non critical purchase.
Doggs arent happpy to lose him, also they cant keep 4 first grade wingers and hes the nek one offf contract

Dragons are considering making a play for Gutherson.
Would he be a better option for us, giving Bula a break with a couple of seasons at Centre until ready to transition back?
Defensively Gutherson is exactly what we need at the back.

Latu and Galvin will both want to play in the halves because there is bigger money to be earned there and the work rate is less than playing lock or second row (which has the benefit of extending your career and thus leading to more money).

If we try to move one of them to the forwards full time they will likely request a release. I don’t blame them.

I suspect Galvin will leave at the end of his contract in 2026. Possibly before. So good to have Latu there for sure.

I seriously can’t imagine Latu having a long NRL career at centre. He’s a decent defender & played a few ok games at Reggie’s there last year but I don’t think he is athletic enough

If we had the room I don’t mind it. His attitude is what we need. Him and Luai together would be revolutionary attitude wise.

I think Bula is lacking the “it” factor to be our long term fullback. Don’t get me wrong, Bula can be good. But the best teams have fullbacks that are consistently great.
